Long after the war, of course. Widely and casually using enemy technology would make a lot of people say, "too soon, man. Too soon."
Could the filters be used for crime? You could program it to notice someone specific and invite them to dinner, and as they enter... TSEEWW!

 Go to 1:19 to begin to get the feels. At 2:35, read [spoiler]"I love you."[/spoiler] Keep on reading, and if you time it just right, you'll get to [spoiler]"You mattered"[/spoiler] at another climactic moment.

Steven Price? I don't think Shenzhou was made for Gravity.

I seem to remember Ax saying that the Yeerks had stolen the biofilter technology from the Andalites.  Since the biofilter tech actually came from the Andalites, it should be Kosher.

But that will prevent farmers from using the technology to protect themselves from pests.
