I've technically been here for a while...
« on: November 30, 2009, 03:35:49 PM »
...I just never posted up any sort of introduction. Why? Beats me. Laziness I guess. Or maybe it was forgetfulness. In fact, I hadn't even started posting until a week or two ago. I always tend to lurk when I first sign up for a forum.

To say a bit about myself... I am twenty years old, and will be twenty-one this Spring. I go to John Jay College, and I am currently studying English with a focus in literature and the law. I also intend to minor in forensic Psychology (basically just Psychology and the law). The school is in NYC, which took a lot of getting used to. I live in NJ, but I make the commute twice a week. It's exhausting, but it's pretty fun, even though I'm not much of a city girl.

My favorite thing to do is write. I just completely this years nanowrimo a day or two ago, and I love to write fanfics and engage in forum role play. There are links to the ones that I run/am in in my signature. The two older ones are pretty large, as they have been going for a while (sign-up/discussion notes go in another thread, so that is why they are not artificially beefed up like the RPs on this site are; you are not allowed to make a post in the RP thread with only OOC notes). The Pokemorphs one is an Animorphs/Pokemon crossover (and is on another site because, and no offense is meant, the RP section here is a mess and full of RPers who one-line and god-mod) and is currently my favorite to write in.

And obviously reading goes hand-in-hand with writing. I love to read, especially vampire stories (NOT TWILIGHT ::)) but I don't have much time for reading on my own because of school. Almost all of my courses are literature courses, so I have to read novels for them, which takes up most of my free time that isn't used for role playing.

In fact, it was thanks to RPing that I got into this series. I joined an RP that CDJV revived on another site and read all the books so that I would know what I was talking about. The concept had always been interesting, but I'd never read them for some reason. I finished them within a few weeks and was hooked. I owe my obsession with Ani to him :)

And I think that's all that is relevant...

I know there is someone who goes around to intro topics and posts some huge post with links to places. I've seen the post before, and I know where things are. You don't need to dump it here ^^'

Oh yeah... I'm really, really blunt at times. It might make me sound rude, but that is not my intention. I just don't sugar coat things :P I'm a nice girl at heart.

wHELLcome, I suppose ^^' Do you need the visit of the RAFprojects or do you already know them?
I also love vampire stories (I'm even making a blog about my critics of vampires stories (movies, TV shows, novels, comic books...). I'd like to talk more about that with you... What did you read? Which one did you like? We can exchange so much!!

I know my way around. There's an advantage to lurking  >:D

Hm, what have I read. Well recently I read the first four Cirque Du Freak books. I've read Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse. I hated them, but I try to keep up with trends. I've also read Interview With the Vampire and about half of The Vampire Lestat, Anita Blake 1-3 (can't remember the titles x_x). I've got The Vampire Book and The Vampire Encyclopedia, which are both encylopedias of terms and stuff, then I have 100 Vicious Vampire Stories, and most recently, The Vampire Anthology, which are collections of short stories. I've got some Irish vampire folklore, and I've got some collection of Van Helsing stories. And of course, Dracula. I tend to enjoy short stories more, for some reason. Novels, especially series, eventually start to bore me, and I have yet to find one that fits my own personal definition of vampires. I like a realistic, biological approach. XD

Forensic Psychology, eh?  That sounds very, very cool.

Anyway, 'welcome' to RAF!  I'm DinosaurNothlit, but most people call me Dino, DN, or occasionally Nothlit.  I, too, am quite a fan of roleplaying and fanfic-writing.  Heh, I don't necessarily disagree with you about the quality of our roleplaying sector (I've seen better, but I suppose I've also seen worse), but I think perhaps you should give it a chance, anyway.  It's a lot of fun, actually.

I can't. x_x I've considered it, but I'm sure that I can't. It sounds bad of me, but I'm really, really picky about things if they annoy me. One-lining drives me up the wall. It's just so... lazy... And same thing with posts that are only OOC notes. It drives me batty! I think it's because I'm a GM at heart. I ended up taking over NCD, which also happened to be my first RP, on page 5. A year later I still GM most RPs I'm in. I guess I'm just used to it. I can't bring myself to make short posts. At least two paragraphs have to be written when I post. It's just how I RP. Then I look and see people one line next to me... and it's like... why do I bother??

Maybe...

I don't know.

I'd have to think about it.

But maybe I'll start some sort of RP here. I'm warning you guys though, it would be strict. Ask Chad ^^' I just don't tolerate a lot of stuff that slides by here. God-modding, one-lining, mary-sues--all out the window XD

Yeah, I know what you mean about one-lining.  ::)  I can't bring myself to post anything less than two paragraphs, myself.  And not for lack of trying, either, sometimes.  I just can't do it.

Still, I've found that you can kind of set the tone for your own roleplay.  Having to read gigantic posts tends to scare the one-liners off, you know what I mean?  Most lazy roleplayers are about as lazy about reading as they are about writing.  Eventually, they can't keep up anymore, and they leave.

So, trust me, it isn't as bad as it looks at first.  It's simply that we have many levels of writers here.  But don't be too frightened.  Writers of similar abilities have a tendency to find each other, I've found.

Still, I'm not saying you have to RP here if you really don't want to.  I'm just saying that you shouldn't close your mind to the idea.  I was a bit of a roleplay 'elitist', too, when I first showed up, but it didn't take long for me to adjust to how things are done here.

hey there, ice! nice of you to come out of the shadows and make an intro thread.
you should come in chat sometime and get to know some people.

i can't say much about the RP, as i don't do it myself, but i'm sure it's not all that bad.

It's what I do best ;) (lulz, insult people, liek srsly)

By the way, it's not an insult if it's true! Bwahaha.

But really, no one is perfect. We all have flaws. People need to be open to those flaws if they are ever going to get better and overcome that. I know it from personal experience. But yeah, I warned you that I'm blunt. I only speak the truth. I refuse to sugar coat things. If I feel it, I'll say it. End of story! :D

I already popped on the chat about an hour ago. Nice little group. A bit random, but hey, I guess that is what chats are for ^_^

I'll consider RPing here, definitely, but I can't see myself joining one that exists. Like I said, I looked over them and wasn't thrilled. That's a good point though, about the tone. It does tend to scare off one-lines. Doesn't work with god-modders though XD At least not in my experience.

Anyway...

I like this place. It'll take me a while to really start posting places though. I'm slow to warm up to forums. The first one I joined I lurked for a year, then didn't post much after that anyway. Hopefully that will change.

Oh, DN, you're the one who makes the sprites? (I've seen the threads but I'm bad with memory and such, and I checked your DA and they are on there.) If so, great job. I like them a lot, specially the yeerk. It's so cute <3 (There you have my favorite species in Ani ;))

Novels, especially series, eventually start to bore me, and I have yet to find one that fits my own personal definition of vampires. I like a realistic, biological approach. XD

Cool!! Here is my list (about in order of (first) reading):
Interview with the Vampire (Anne Rice)
The Vampire Lestat (Anne Rice)
The Queen of the Damned (Anne Rice)
The Tale of the Body Thief (Anne Rice)
Memnoch the Devil (Anne Rice)
The Last Vampire #1-2-3 (Christopher Pike)
Pandora (Anne Rice)
Vittorio the Vampire (Anne Rice)
Carmilla (Sheridan Le Fanu)
Dracula (Bram Stoker)
The Vampire Armand (Anne Rice)
Merrick (Anne Rice)
Blood and Gold (Anne Rice)
Twilight (Stephenie Meyer)
New Moon (Stephenie Meyer)
The Vampyre (John William Polidori)
Eclipse (Stephenie Meyer)
Breakind Dawn (Stephenie Meyer)
and few vampires who appear in kid book series ;)

I also have (but didn't read yet... or maybe some of them but I don't remember ^^'):
The New Dracula (Fred Saberhagen & Anne Rice &...)
Seance for a vampire (Fred Saberhagen)
Salem (Stephen King)
"13 Histoires diaboliques" (don't know the English title, 13 short stories about vampires, one of them by Stephen King (The Night Flier))
The Southern Vampire Mysteries #1 to 7 (Charlaine Harris)
"Eros Vampire #1" (Poppy Z. Brite, but I don't know the English title...)
The Diaries of the Family Dracul #1-2 (Jeanne Kalogridis)
Vampire$ (John Steakley)
2 books about Historical vampires (Peter Kürten & Erzsebet Bathory) (by Maurice Perisset, Marcel Schneider & Philippe Brunet)

About the comic books (BD) and manga:
Le Prince de la nuit #1 (same ^^')
Rapaces #1-2-3-4 (don't know the title in English or even if it was translated)
Vampire Knight #1 to 10
Requiem Vampire Knight #1 to 7
Claudia Vampire Knight #1 to 3 (but I think they aren't translated in English yet)
Vampyres - Sable Noir #1-2 (same ^^" it's new so I suppose not translated...)

I could tell you also the movies and anime, but my message is getting very long ^^'

How are Cirque du Freak and Anita Blake? Which books did you prefer/like (in everything you read about vampires)?
Your favorite vampires movies/anime?

From what I read so far of Anita Blake, they are excellent, though I've heard they really degrade as you go along and become more about sex than story, lol. Circque du Freak is interesting... It's not a bad series, I guess, but there's a lot of lore in that there I'm not so sure I like, and the name of the other type of vampires is just lame and uncreative. Vampaneze. Yeah... For a kid's series it's not bad, but I feel that it tries too hard to be gory and horrific, and the end result is a lot of character deaths and fight scenes that would have been better left out. It's okay, but not my favorites. I'll probably read them all eventually anyway though. I still like short stories the best, and my favorite of the books I have is probably The Vampire Encyclopedia by Matthew Bunson. It has a lot of interesting species documented in there. Like Bajangs. Those things rock ;)

As for movies... I don't really watch a lot of TV or movies, so I've only seen a handful. I actually really liked The Little Vampire, the Disney one XD I guess Interview With the Vampire was okay. I didn't like Queen of the Damned.

Anime I'm sort of in the same boat. I've not seen Blood+ or Vampire Hunter D, as the style and such never really appeared to me, but I have seen Hellsing and Trinity Blood through and greatly enjoyed both. Not a fan of their manga counterparts. Oh, and Digimon. While not a vampire anime, a lot of the digimon are vampiric in nature. Vamdemon is what got me into vampires in the first place :3

The Vampire Encyclopedia seems interesting but available only in English ^^' So I gonna think about it. I'll also check for Anita Blake later ;) And even if you didn't like so much Cirque du Freak, I'd like to read them.
Why did you stop The Vampire Lestat near the middle? You didn't like?

About anime, I've watched Vampire Knight, Karin, Hellsing, Hellsing Ultimate, Rosario+Vampire, Lament of the Lamb.
And for the movies... here the list:
30 Days of night, The Addiction, The Fearless Vampire Killers, Blade (1&2 I think), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Horror of Dracula, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Dracula (1931), Dracula Dead and loving it, Dracula Prince of Darkness, Interview with the Vampire, The Lost Boys, Lost Boys the tribe, Karmina, Lesbian Vampire Killers, Moon Child, Let the right one in, "Les Morsures de l'aube", Nosferatu eine Symphonie des Grauens, From Dust till Dawn 1&2&3, The Hunger, Queen of the Damned (and of course I hate it!), Twilight 1&2, Underworld (only the first, I think), Vampires, Vampire in Brooklyn, Fright Night 1&2, Van Helsing.

And the TVshows: Buffy, Angel, Moonlight, Blood Ties, True Blood, Being Human and I'm watching Young Dracula and Vampire High.

So if you want help to choose a good movie, ask me ;) My goal is to watch/read the most things about vampires. So I'll try to watch all the movies and TV shows about vampires, even the bad ones (like Kindred or Against the Dark)
