Jake nods in agreement as they approach they basement. The closer they got to the house, the clearer he could hear Tobias's side of a conversation. By the responses given by Tobias, Jake really wanted to hear the questions, unfortunately he couldn't.
Rachel stood up from sitting in the basement/elevator when Jake and the rest showed up. She meant to follow them down the corridor, but she didn't feel up to it. So she had stayed behind. She waved to Jake upon their return. He just gave her an understanding nod.
Ax had just cleared the faux wall when Elayne had started the basement/elevator. By the time they reached the top, he was fully human once more.
