(Gaz left and is inside the bar.)

Morgan turned when he heard the voice behind him.

"Yes?" he asked. "It's all right. We're finished here. What do you need?"

Inside the bar, Gaz was sitting at the bar and ordering herself another drink. True, her and Fletcher hadn't been around each other a whole not, not since they were kids. But the fact that he was actually gone this time. Sure, they had both known there were risks with the life they led but...who ever really expected those things to actually happen?

"Give me another," Gaz said as she put some money on the bar.

Those mechanics were so dead.

Fisher knew that the moment the transport popped out of Zero Space by the bar.

There was a lurch as they suddenly came back into Real space and decelerated to fifty thousand miles per hour. Fisher was in his quarters when it happened, but he was quickly marching through the corridors and stormed onto the bridge.

"What just happened?" He demanded of the clearly confused bridge crew.

"Dunno sir, TR drive just conked out on us."

"Well then fix it, we're not supposed to be here, wherever 'here' is."

"Sir, the cooling mechanism malfunctioned, something must have blew and leaked out coolant out into z-space and the drive overheated. we can't go anywhere, not until we get a refill on coolant."

Bloody, in the middle of space in need of repairs. Fisher sighed in disgust.

"Fine then, pop the beacon and button up for a wait."

"Yes si-Sir I have structures ahead two hundred thousand clicks!" That caught the Master Sergeant's attention.

"Say what?" He said incredously.

"Structures dead ahead, multiple heat sigs. The place is inhabited, big time. Seems to be on the moon ahead, got a breathable atmosphere too." Fear crept into Fisher's tone as he asked.

"Yeerks?"

"Negative sir, judging from the amount of interspecies technology I'd guess it's that bloody space bar." Fisher barked a laugh before responding.

"Forget the beacon, land at the bar for coolant. In the meanwhile, some Pendleton's would be good for a change. alert the rest of the men, we'll have a quick shore leave!"

The transports engines flared and raced for the bar. After half an hour they touched down on an empty landing pad and after waiting for the engines to die down, strolled off the ramp. Twelve marines in all, all dressed loosely in basic dress uniform with .44 automatics clipped to their wastes.

They entered the bar and immediately headed for the bar to order some drinks, all except Fisher who walked to the middle of the room and in a loud, authoritive voice called out.

"I'm looking for coolant for a Z-space drive, is there any Z-space drive coolant 'round here?"
"I'm looking for

<I have some coolant in my ship.> Claxter said. He had been standing next to the bar, running circles around his head with his thoughts, and going nowhere. Maybe he needed something to do to clear it a bit. He didn't know these people, but he did have coolant containers.

I smiled.

"Yes...Vogefak ra John yk J'KIIRA ENBE!" I said in Reptilinod. I laughed. He did it.

"Now, until I return to my people, we work together. We do nothing apart, and help with all."

I thought of my first bloodbrother on Reptilina. I had come to check the threat in the sector we just left. I knew it was there. I was supposed to report to my superiors now. But this whole bar seemed to be a two-headed deceit. From the just-arrived's view, it was a run down, depressed old shack. To the one who has been here, it was full of action. I was very pleased we had to stop here in the first place.

"Good!" John replied. <<You should tell him about me if you two are brothers.>> I commented. "You're right Bear. Vogefak, this is Bear. He used to be human but trapped himself in morph to avoid an Andalite controlled government." I walied over and put my paw on his leg to say hi.

Fisher heard one of the people at the bar call out that he had coolant aboard his vessel. Fisher knew from the thought speech that his savior was an Andalite, in a bar. how odd. Walking over, Fisher stuck out his hand to shake, introducing himself.

"Fisher, Master Sergeant Jonathan Fisher of the United Earth Marine Corps. Follow me to my transport." at this moment the chief engineering officer burst into the bar, the herald of bad news.

"Sir, more trouble. We had two coolant leaks, one ditched into Z-space and the rest dripped on the power converters, froze 'em solid." He shuddered. "Almost hit life support too, we were damn lucky. Anyway, we'll probably have to wait here until a resupply ship gets here." Fisher frowned, then replied.

"Where's the nearest battle group?"

"Task force Moscow is on a deep space patrol in the Theta quadrant, they've dispatch a ship as soon as possible. But with Z-space rifts, who knows how long they could take? Earliest is a few weeks, maximum is a few months." Dang. Fisher turned to the alien offering coolant.

"We could still take the coolant, though it looks like we're parked here for awhile."

<That's ok. This is an interesting place. have you ever been here before?> Claxter asked after shaking his hand. It was possible. He walked out the door, and led the guy towards his ship.

Mar laughs darkly at Ossanlin's statement, following him carefully. "...I suspect that I would. By the time I found you, I would have already left this body and the Bar. I am not exactly a fan of beings with as bright a soul as your own. You would probably be heroic, fighting to disrupt my actions. For that I would destroy you. If you seek the kind of pain I can bring, I can provide it. But..."

Mar stands in place, shaking his head. His eyes shine a light purple color for a few moments. "I..." Mar looks uneasy about what he's saying. It's hard being a creature that inherently loves the sort of agony Ossanlin is going through. Yet, he is also a human that wants to help his friend. Mar rubs his forehead. He has to focus before he says anything...unpleasa nt. What was the memory again? "...I once knew a young boy. He was...excitable and a little dim. Like you, I guess. He later became consumed by his own guilt because he was part of the reason the people he loved suffered. He...did recover, but he spent nearly half his life like that."

"I...do not know why I am saying this anymore," muttered Mar very quickly. "It does not help me. But dying that way would be incredibly stupid. Amusing, but stupid. What will happen to me when you die, Ossanlin?"

This last statement seems to garner real emotion out of Mar.

Upon the dog's proposal, John decided to reveal Bear's identity to me.

"You're right Bear. Vogefak, this is Bear. He used to be human but trapped himself in morph to avoid an Andalite controlled government."

The dog walked over and put his paw on my leg.

"I see," I replied, "Is bear your real name?"

Ossanlin continues to walk solemnly as he listens.  He chuckles ruefully.  <Any other andalite would take off your head for calling him "dim".>  He takes another step before tripping over the dirt under his feet as Mar asks what would happen to him.  He stops dead, digging claws into a tree to stop him from falling face-first in the leaf-litter.

<What?>  Ossanlin looks back at Mar, seeing actual emotion emanating from the thus-far emotionless being.  <What would happen to you...?  Well I suppose...I suppose you'd go back to the bar and have a drink...>  He furrows his brow.  <I'm simply another mortal am I not?  I will not give my soul to you...so what worth am I to you?>  Ossanlin shakes his head, confused.

Fisher slowly shook his head in response to the Andalites question.

"Never been here in my life, heard about it though. Huh, figures that bars would travel to the stars. Normally we steer clear of this place, but seeing as we're stuck, looks like we have no choice."

<I have not been here long either. I found my way here when I was in need of landing because I ran out of fuel.> Claxter said. he reached his ship, opened the hatch, and went to a shelf in the back. He grabbed a container of fuel, and showed it to the Human. <This should be what you need.> He said. He didn't know if he should ask for payment or not.

Terenia shifts her position slightly, dropping her knees to sit cross-legged. "Indian style", she used to call it as a kid. She remembered her brother used to make her and Tammy sit like that, banging on a drum while he tried to lasso her - his own twisted version of Cowboys and Indians. The memory makes her stomach twist. She shakes it away, instead answering Salem's question.

"Myitt went that way," Terenia says, gesturing in the general direction of the forest that she had disappeared into. She drops her gaze, picking up a fallen leaf and slowly, methodically tearing it to shreds.

Mar frowns, clutching at something that feels as if it were within him. He'd felt something like it when he was with Elayne, and when he was worried that Ossanlin might leave because of his injury. The something or another bothered him, but at those times it was not his primary concern. It is now, because a different one happened when he thought about Ossanlin leaving him here.

"I...I don't know, War Prince," he states, closing his eyes in an attempt to think. Mortality seems to be rather complicated. "I have been experiencing bizarre phenomena as a result of this human body. But I think that I would...not like it if you left right now. That's why I keep on trying to manipulate you out of doing it. You can't really bring back the dead. You people can change yourselves, but whatever caused you to tolerate me will not exist after you switch to a new body."

Ossanlin punches at the tree trunk, splinters of bark flying out from the impact.  He slings the harness off to the side and puts his back to the tree, sliding down into a sitting position.  He can hear human conversation not far off...though he can't tell what the voices are saying or whom they belong to.  Mar had hit a soft spot in Ossanlin...he didn't like to cause harm, in fact he avoided it at all costs...would the end of his life really hurt others?  The Tyrennian would have a new captain and people would move on...except apparently Mar.  Myitt hated him now and he couldn't blame her...there were people relying upon him, but they would move on wouldn't they?  People often did if given enough time.

Mar seemed to think that Ossanlin's death would somehow be detrimental to him.  Ossanlin grimaces, not making eye-contact with Mar, drawing his muscular legs in a bit.  <Why did you have to say that?  Things would be better without me.  Why are you trying to convince me otherwise?  I was calm...ready...then you start in with how my death could hurt you....>  The being was exploiting his weakness...he knew it to be so...but what was he to do?  Ossanlin punches an arm back against the trunk again, wrist-blade digging in and splintering more bark.
