Asda held one of Fletcher's shoulders and asked, "What's wrong? What is it?"
"The chip," Fletcher said, "it held back memories. Maybe ones the CG didn't want you to remember. There's this whole section in my mind now that wasn't there before."
"What happened?" Asda asked gently.
Fletcher took a deep breath. "I...I was being sent on a job. Had only been working for them for about half a year. They sent me to one of the Middle Planets to investigate something. Didn't tell me what it was, but to report anything I found no matter what. People in the area told me a family had been killed or...disappeared. When I was looking, I found a lost child. I was told to report in no matter what I found. So I did."
Fletcher paused for a moment before continuing, "I told them what the locals had told me, and about the child. They said, the child must be the orphan and I should bring the child to them so they could find any relations. I didn't see anything wrong with that. Later, when I asked about the child, they said the remaining family had been found. But there was something in their faces I didn't like."
Before Fletcher could say anymore, Asda made him drink some water she had with her.
"So I started investigating on the side what might have really happened," Fletcher explained. "That's when I found out. About the program and what they were doing. I wanted to stop it. That's when I had my accident. The CG put the chip in my head and when I woke up....there was a blank. The doctor told me the accident caused some trauma and I would experience minor memory loss."
Fletcher leaned his head against the tree and looked anguished.
"It was me," he said after a long moment. "I know who the child was now. It was Silver. I found her and I'm the one who handed her over to them."
