The Director and Thordon follow the commander with their eyes as he leaves the bar. The Director sighs and says, "Well, glad he's leaving." He takes the last drink of his glass and places it up-side down on the counter, signalling that he was finished.

Thordon continued to look at the doorway and said, "Indeed." He stayed motionless, watching the entrance.

Parker watched and listened to Silver, Morgan, and Andromeda's conversation. He began to feel an odd sense of longing and distance. It was a strange feeling, one he hadn't felt in decades. He shook his head as though clearing blurred vision, even though his eyes were fine. He put his hand to his helmet and held his head. He was becoming confused by these strange resurfacing of emotions. He had been programmed at an early age to not feel these things; and now, since he met Silver, they all started to resurface one by one.

He stood up quietly and left the medbay and returned to the small armory of The Cursed Pride. He checked his fire arms and replentished any lacking ammo. He then began to disassemble all three of his weapons on a crate and shuffled the parts. He then reassembled them again at impossible speeds. He continued to disassemble and reassemble his weapons, occasionally cleaning parts to complicate the process, until his "feelings" began to settle again.

<<No,>> Efaen says privately to Corliss, <<I will not tell her anything. If they are hunting for her, she will only panic. If they are not, she I'll view it as an opportunity to escape this planetoid.  In either case, I prefer not to hear her delusions.>>

<Now,> she goes on, reverting to open thought speak, <where were we before that unnecessary interruption? I believe we were discussing whether or not it is worth keeping you alive. Is that right?>

Trey glances apologetically at Mar, then in trepidation at the door Elayne has just opened. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he follows Elayne.

The cloaked man waited until most of the troops were distracted, then sprinted for the crater near the bar, his cloak making him nearly invisible, only an occasional flash of his boots visible. He fired two shots at Yeerk troops as he ran, and they dropped to the ground as if they'd been punched in the stomach. Once he'd reached the crater, he slid down inside as quickly and quietly as possible, then glanced at his gun. He cursed. The sustained shot had cracked one of the stabilizing blades. That would take a while to repair. This was just not his day. He began to look over what remained of Thienal's wooden ship. It was, surprisingly, mostly intact, and wouldn't require too much in the way of repairs, though landing it normally would probably prove difficult next time. He set to work

***

Thienal continued watching the area through his rifle scope from the roof of the bar. He saw Ikakek's ship swoop low over the cloud of smoke, but suspected that he wouldn't see the human in there either. The Yeerk troops were surrounding the area where the decrepit ship had exploded, though it was clear they weren't sure where the human would have blown it up from. Two of them, Elriss 490, the one in the blond human woman, and Elriss 491, the large, timid bladed one she liked to spend time with, approached the wreckage as cautiously as possible. He noticed the commander inching towards the large transport they'd brought, as if he were afraid the target could be hiding just about anywhere, ready to shoot with whatever otherworldly weapon he'd chosen this time. Which, Thienal had to admit, was probably a very rational fear.

Thienal shook his head. He was going to find this human and make him pay for trashing his ship.

Corliss glances at the viewscreens as bits of shrapnel hit the Bug's shielding.  Then he looks back at Efaen, placing his hands on his hips.

"I thought we 'ad come to the conclusion that it was foolish to kill an ally," he says blandly.

Keshin's sight and hearing slowly return, thankfully for him. He rubs his head slightly and glances around the Bar. Whatever went down inside this place isn't going on now, nor is there any sign of what it actually was. <Joanne, do you have any guesses?>

<Seemed like a distraction. Like tear gas on the street. Probably that mark was tryin' to split.>

<Do you think he's still around?>

<Only one way to find out.>

Keshin then deftly straightens himself out and wanders towards the Bar's entrance. After all the time he's spent in here, he needs a breath of fresh air anyway.
*******************************************************************************
The room ahead appears to be some kind of vast storage room. Boxes filled with food line every inch of the walls. Exactly how this place fits inside a tiny wooden building on an asteroid is a little bit unclear. Mar walks around the area, an intrigued expression on his face. "So this is where he's getting it all from. Standard magically generated room, but the source of the food itself is unclear. Perhaps it just...piles up, when needed."

Mar then glances at Elayne and states, "I think we're safe. This place seems fairly impervious to attack unless the entire Bar collapses. And I get the impression that the Bartender wouldn't let that happen."

Elayne tore her eyes from the room with a bit of effort. "I thought for sure this would lead us outside," she sighed, looking at Mar. "Well, I have the feeling the Bartender wouldn't want us poking around in here... and I'm pretty sure he's not the kind of guy I want to cross. Still, it's good to know I won't starve." She took a step backwards and poked her head back into the hallway, peering towards the Bar's main room. "Sounds like things are calming down a bit that way."

<True,> Efaen says, <but I do not recall agreeing that you were my ally. You are Terenia's ally, and apparently the object of her ->

<<Efaen!>>

<-...musings...but you are no ally of mine. The fact that we share a common enemy does not make us allies. My allegiance will never fall in the same category as that of a Yeerk,> Efaen relaxes a minuscule amount, her expression smoothing from one of bitter hatred to general disgust, <we could have killed all of them, you know. Those Imperials out there. Why did you not allow me to finish them off? It would have been advantageous to the both of us.>

----

Trey hesitates, looking into the strangely enormous store room and then back down the hall towards the bar. He is, yet again, caught somewhere between. Now that the three of them are out of the main bar area Trey cannot help but feel as though he is intruding upon Elayne and Mar, despite the fact that it was Mar who followed them. Flushing slightly, Trey edges away from the two of them and begins heading back towards the bar.

Corliss' shoulders sink a bit.  "You're right, we could have," he says finally.  "Is it so strange to find the idea of wanton killing abhorrent, Efaen?  This, coming from a creature who kills his own people for a living.  I know.  But not like that.  Besides, they've left us alone, for now."

Keshin and Joanne breathe in the cold air on the outside of the Bar with a sense of relief. Keshin wonders how long they've been sitting there, gulping down grape juice and waiting for something to do. But at the exact same time he isn't exactly compelled to leave. <If we get out of here we'll have to get right back to business. And we might get killed. Time itself seems frozen here. If we can use this place as a way to prolong our lives, might as well milk it for all it's worth.>

<We can' just keep puttin' off what's comin', Kess. This place does work a little funny with the body but we got lives to live. And eventually we're gonna run outta our medicine supply on the ground.>

<True. But---wait a minute.>

<You're tryin' to change the subject.>

<Sure I am. But you know you're curious, too.>

<..........>

Keshin notes the soldiers wandering around the area with some interest. He still has no idea what they're looking for. Just that whoever it was was inside the Bar earlier. Keshin figures it's best not to piss them off but wanders toward the nearest soldier to the Bar anyway. He then says, "Hey, excuse me! Who exactly are you guys looking for? I mean, what does he look like?"

Mar turns his head towards Trey leaving and nods. He then turns to Elayne and mutters, "I wonder where the boy is going. Did we turn him off somehow? Oh, well. He's not really our problem, now is he? Well...I suppose on some level he is your problem."

Mar then notes the outside as Elayne does and nods. "Yes, yes. Whatever went down has...stopped, I suppose." Mar then looks at Elayne a bit nervously. He's not sure what he's about to do, or even why he's doing it. "You know...Elayne...you have been unusually sympathetic and kind towards me. Kinder than this variation of Precious can be until she is dead. But...you will die shortly, from my perspective. And then you won't be the same, either. When...when you come back. And I am not sure how to approach the situation as a result. How I should act with you."

The Hork-Bajir that Keshin walked up to glanced around, unsure if he should be answering. He seemed to decide it was okay to talk to this unthreatening-looking human, and with a slight shrug, answered, "He's human. Um... about this tall, I think," he held his hand about six feet above the ground, "and he has... uh... reddish brown hair. They said he was wearing a black cloak. He's probably carrying a bunch of strange alien devices." he didn't seem to know how to continue this discussion. "Uh... I don't suppose you know where we can find him now?"
