"If you do not wish to save her to spend time with her, and she is the enemy, then should you not care for her at all?" Belzar said. He had been with Terenia and Corliss the whole time, but had remained silent. "Though I suppose the one you work for, who is pulling the strings, is the real problem here. You mentioned that death is a kind of freedom, but you would regret your sister being killed by your vindictive master?"

Terenia jumps, her stalk eyes landing on Belzar. Somehow she had completely forgotten that the robot was there, caught up as she was in her conversation with Corliss. She can't avoid the feeling that he was eavesdropping and shifts away from him ever so slightly.

<It is more complicated than that,> she says simply, her guard flying up again, <I don't suppose you would understand.>

"Probably not. Lifeforms are very different from mechanoids. Even though we are capable of emotion, we aren't highly emotional. We still run on logic."

(Anytime someone brings up a point against her, she's all "It's complicated!!1!111!")

((It is complicated. If you want to know exactly HOW complicated I suggest you read her story, which is currently being published in the Fanfiction section of this board, titled Playing War: The Traitor.

Besides, she's not likely to just go telling everyone her life story. She isn't the most trusting person in the world, and that would be out of character. I don't modify my character's personality just because it would make better conversation.))

((I shall. :) ))

<Allow me to try to explain it to you,> Terenia says with a scowl at the robot, <my sister is an evil, selfish, despicable excuse for a human being. But, as Corliss pointed out, she is all the family I have left, thanks to my own mistakes. Saving Tamora is my last possible attempt at succeeding at something in life, at doing something right, something good. Something that will make me better than she is,> as she is speaking her voice becomes more and more thoroughly edged with disgust, but whether it is towards Belzar or herself is hard to discern, <I am trying to fix my mistakes, because that's what a good person should do. Killing Tamora would not fix my mistake. The only way to fix my mistake is by saving her from Visser Three myself, freeing her from that slug in her head and making her see that she is wrong. There are no other options. If saving her becomes impossible, then yes, she will be granted the freedom that comes with death.>

She comes to an abrupt halt, her chest heaving as though she had just run a marathon. Her face flushes as she realizes that she has just spilled far more information than necessary, and she carefully avoids both Belzar and Corliss' gaze. She does not really care what the robot thinks of her, she does not know him, but she is embarrassed for having such an outburst in front of Corliss.

"I suppose everyone needs a goal in life, though if your sister has chosen her path and is happy in it then perhaps you can simply reach a compromise with her. Just try not to spend your entire life in the past, or you will never be able to move forward. And believe me, this comes from a being that has existed for a few hundred years."

<Her path is the wrong path!> Terenia snarls, <her path is the one that leads to entire races being decimated. Her path is the one that would, without hesitation, murder just about everyone in this bar.>

She scuffs a hoof on the ground, a mark of irritation, <As for the living in the past bit, where else would you like me to live? Our existence is rooted in our past, and if we don't try to make our mistakes right that's basically like saying what we did was okay.>

((No worries T, I just worked with what I got. I figured I may have had to alter the posts anyhow. I edited The Director's analysis and "deleted" his follow up. I hope the modifications are okay. I have no problem either changing them, or just butting out if you prefer.))

"All sides of war have their monsters, Terenia. And sometimes mistakes just can't be fixed. Sometimes you simply have to try not to make the same mistake again, rather than try to fix every wrong you do. Mistakes will be made, because we are not perfect. Just take what you know now, and move on while trying not not do the same wrong. I think both you and your sister may be happier that way."

((Parker-I know you have a whole lot on your plate already. I need to know if the Director will respond to Keshin's comment a few posts back. He seems distracted with Elayne for the moment. ; ) If so Keshin'll just kind of wander off and do something else. xD ))

Mar glances back and forth between the Director and Elayne as they speak of Trey's fate. Mar groans. So much over one stupid boy. Frankly too much for my Elayne to deal with. I should say something.

Mar then holds up a hand. "I don't mean to interrupt, but I think this has gone on long enough. It is this simple: if you wish that this specific version of the boy should continue existing, do not go back. The chance of his disappearance will in that way not occur. If you do not care and prefer to rectify the terrible situation on the ground, then go. If you cannot make such a decision yourself...well then..."

Mar grins at Elayne. "...I would prefer it if you stayed here. The situation on his Earth benefits me indirectly...and your presence benefits me very directly."

Elayne sighed. "Seems like everyone has something to gain by me staying here. Your life may not be a fairy tale," she looked to Trey, "but at least your life would continue to exist securely." Then turned her eyes on Mar, giving a small smirk. "And I know you like having me around." Smile fading, she bit her bottom lip and shrugged. "I guess I am a traitor, and I'm certainly a coward, but I have no desire to face all those personal attacks on Earth again. I shouldn't have left the movement in the first place, but that's in my past now. It would probably take a miracle to repair the damage I've already caused by leaving the planet."

Corliss watches Belzar and Terenia trade their remarks, watches Terenia become more and more disgusted and upset.  Toward the end of her tirade he, too, feels awkward and he stares down at Mike's boots.  As Terenia scuffs her hoof and her thought speech rings in his head, he looks up.

"Terenia," he says quietly, "I can't pretend to know the hell you've been put through.  I can't.  I do know that you'd rather accomplish your goals by yourself, on your own, without anyone meddling in your life.  But...perhaps, in coming here, in meeting Ossanlin and my brother and our weird little band, you really have set in motion the right things at the right time to free your sister.  Yes, it's indirect, but if they do succeed, it's really you who have succeeded, simply by being here.  By putting into place the things that were necessary to finally free Tamora, whether you really wanted outside help or not.  At the very least, it will have expedited the whole process.  How long were you waiting, trapped under the thumb of Visser Three, who is still breathing down your neck to this very day?  How many long years?  Isn't it time to end all of that pointless suffering?"
