Genie poured some brandy into Lucan's glass, and then poured some for herself. She took a tentative sip and smiled. "I like it. It tastes like berries."

Setting down her glass, Genie began cutting into her meat. "You must've travelled to a lot of interesting worlds." She took a bite of her meat, pleased to note how good it tasted. "Humans haven't gotten farther than our moon." She paused. "Well, humans who haven't been infested, anyway."

Lucan looked at Genie with concern and decided to ask the question that had been bothering him since the bar.

"Genie I do not wish to offend you, but may I ask why you accept infestation by Priton?"

Genie considered her answer for a moment. "It wasn't exactly my choice." She stared at her plate. "And it wasn't exactly his fault either. Well," she rolled her eyes, "what I mean is, if you were a yeerk, you probably wouldn't want to go without a host either."

She glanced up at Lucan, then back at her plate. "He'd freed his last host. They were friends, together for a long time. I think P was going stir crazy." Genie shrugged. "I happened to come along at the right time, I guess."

Genie smiled. "I actually got lucky with him. Even voluntary hosts don't usually get the sort of freedom I've had. And I wasn't voluntary to start with, but..." She shrugged again. "It's easier. If I have to live with it, I might as well make the most of it."

She took another bite. "He's actually very kind to the people he cares about." She finally looked at Lucan, a little embarrassed. "You may have noticed that he doesn't really like you."

((Sorry for my extended absence.))

The Director listened intently to the conversation unfolding. Interested in learning more, he decided it would be better to not speak up. Corliss seemed to be asking all the necessary questions anyhow.

((sorry guys, this week has been hell on earth at work, despite the fact that it's teacher appreciation week. As Marco would say, now that's ironic Alanis. Anyhow, I'll try to post tomorrow, but I'm beat. Sorry again :( :( ))

Lucan half-smiled and his spots turned black in color. "Priton doesn't like me? Here I was thinking that I was his new best friend." Lucan said in a sarcastically shocked voice. He was pleased to see Genie trying to hide a smile.

"Aren't you looking forward to being free again though?" Lucan asked in a slightly concerned voice. "You sound as if you would miss being infested by Priton."

Genie laughed. "No. I won't miss being that part. It's kind of nice to do things like this--" she stretched up her arms up and wiggled her fingers--"the sort of thing most people don't even think about."

She shrugged. "So, no. I won't miss being a controller--that's what someone like me is called--but I'll miss Priton." She thought for a moment. "It might be interesting talking to him when he isn't in here." She tapped a finger to her temple. "I knew him very briefly when he was in his old host, but of course at that point I didn't know anything."

Lucan took a drink of his brandy and started eating. "How did you first become a controller Genie?" he asked.

((Yay, Hunter! Ok so Johnny and Genie are actually in a ship offworld. Keshin/Joanne, Belzar (Chad's robot), Trey (Jessi's new character--the son of two Yeerk nothlits in human morph), and Elayne are at the edge of the woods burying Trey's father. Mar, Terenia, Corliss/Mike, the Director (Parker's Time Lord)... and probably a few folks I'm forgetting who haven't spoken up in a while... are in the Bar, itself. Glad you got your computer up and running!))

Terenia shifts awkwardly in her seat as Corliss and Mar debate Myitt's soul. She has never been much of a believer in anything beyond the tangible, and the way Mar speaks of Myitt is unsettling. The word 'precious' seems almost sinister to her. She is about to turn away, but then Mar mentions that he is in love with Myitt, or at least with some aspect of her, and she can't help but let out a derisive snort, almost spilling her drink in the process. She puts a hand to her mouth, wiping it quickly.

"I'm sorry," she says insincerely, "that was rude."

Trey listens to Elayne and the robot talk to a newcomer, someone he has not seen before, but does not participate. He continues to keep his back carefully turned from the grave until the sounds of digging cease. When he turns around there is no more corpse, only a freshly turned pile of dirt. A feeling of relative ease settles over Trey, as though some of his grief had been buried right with his father's body. He is still far from okay, but he no longer feels as though he is about to suffer from a complete mental breakdown.

Corliss glances at Terenia, but his attention is fixed on Mar.  "What do you mean, Myitt sold it to you?  She's not stupid, and she's not entirely selfless.  You're telling me that you somehow have met Myitt and Tara before?  When?  Do you often take trips to out-of-the-way parts of space to visit bars?  And I can't think of anyone she would sell her soul to save, except perhaps her host.  Unless she didn't believe in what you were doing, which at least sounds like her, anyway."
