<What?> Efaen asks, still distracted, <Oh....that is alright...I do not expect your protection.>

<<Terenia, where are you?>> Efaen asks privately, her voice trembling.

<<How the hell am I supposed to know? I'm blind, remember? I'm in a room on the ship somewhere. The computer readouts are showing an empty room, but that Andalite you love so much passed through a few minutes ago.>>

<<Ah,>> Efaen looks over Claxter's shoulder, towards the door he came from. She gives Claxter an empty smile and places one hand on his upper arm, gently. <I do not need your protection, but I thank you for the companionship you have provided. If you'll...excuse me for a minute. I would like to be alone. I need to think.>

She moves past him then, ignoring the others on board the ship, and walks into the first room off of the bridge.

Ossanlin emerges into the main ****pit area in front of Claxter and nods as he listens to the two converse.  <I'm sorry to ask Efaen, but how far will Visser 3 go to retrieve the both of you.  How important are you to him?  We can fight a goodly number of Imperials, but if he sends an entire fleet, or an armada, I don't know that we will win.  One Dome Ship against that...I would be consigning my warriors to death.  Will he wait or not?>  Ossanlin doesn't want to say that they might have to move Efaen to better-controlled space for her own protection, and he doesn't say anything regarding Claxter...he would let the young warrior deal with his so-called failing in his own way.

<And where's that bug?>  Ossanlin poses the question stiffly to Corliss.

Zoshonel had finished lining up his shot at the bugfighter. "Fire!" He yells for emphasis as he presses the button. A blast from his ship lances towards the enemy bugfighter's cokpit.

Efaen stops in the doorway of the first compartment and the main cabinet, resting a hand on the frame, her tail and stalk eyes drooping as she responds to Ossanlin.

<I do not know. We are not particularly valuable, but Visser Three is not known for his stable mental health, and I believe that he has taken a sort of...twisted liking to Terenia and her situation. If he thinks that I am free then he will regard me as a threat, no doubt. Terenia knew things that she should not, but he could buy her silence with her sister. He has no such leverage with me. I find it likely that he will send reinforcements. A bounty hunter, or sniper if he is being more level-headed. An armada if he is feeling particularly arrogant and fool-hardy. I cannot imagine him pulling out of range of Earth...but you can never tell with him.>

She sighs again, a look of pain on her face, <I am sorry that I brought this upon you.>

She cannot bear to listen to the conversation any longer, disappearing into the compartment and shutting the door behind her. She orders it to lock, but has no idea if it actually does, or if the computer even knows how to respond to thought-speech.

Just as Efaen suspected, this compartment contains the portable Yeerk Pool housing Terenia. She looks down to it, anger and frustration clouding her vision. <<What in yaolin have you gotten us into, human?>> she asks in a private whisper. Terenia does not respond.

((Tara, I have no idea if the door can actually close or not. I'll fix it if that doesn't work. :) ))

Alic nodded to Efaen and Claxter. <No thank yous needed.. I would hope If I am cornered or in a situation that you would do the same for me.> But she didn't know if they actually would.. Claxter maybe. Efaen.. Did she want to? Probably not. The pain in Alic's shoulder was becoming unbearable, so she quickly morphed human and then demorphed again. If the Visser sent a larger group to retrieve his human-yeerk and Efaen, they may be in trouble.

Parker snapped to attention, "SPARTAN-821, at your service. Let's shut these bastards down."

((I think it makes sense for the door to shut in response to thought-speech, but not lock, maybe as a security precaution. :) ))

Corliss pilots the ship up above the trees, spotting Myitt's invisible fighter cruising towards the Skimmer.  The Bug fighter was cloaked, and Corliss sets his own ship back into cloaked mode.

"I've got the Imperial Bug on a tentative lock, for now, Ossanlin," says Corliss, piloting the ship towards the Imperial fighter.

"Roger that, Red Leader!" Myitt calls via comm link.

"Very funny," Corliss says with a smirk.  He nods at Ossanlin.  "Can you take weapons controls, Ossanlin?  We're going to need someone skilled enough with this holo system to try and take the Imperial Bug down.  D'you think you can do it?"

---

Myitt glances over at Elayne.  "How good of a shot are you?  Think you can try your hand at bringing that Bug down?  It's cloaked, so you'll have to rely on the holoscreens.  Not easy.  If you don't feel up to it, Keshin can do it."  Something in her tone suggests she's loathe to have the bounty hunter in control of anything on her ship, but even Myitt has to recognize Joanne's firing skills.

She follows along above the tree tops, cloaked next to Corliss' Skimmer.

(Should probably start a thread like Cocoa Puffs so we don't bog down bar discussion.)

Morgan nodded. "I appreciate your support. I'll take all the help I can get. Multiple ships would usually be a good idea, however, ships not from the 'verse might draw unwanted attention from the CG."

"Morgan," said Gaz, "as much as I hate to suggest it...shouldn't we watch more of the disc...in case a message was slipped in there?"

"Thor could slip into your computer and see if there are any trace patterns, or any encrypted files, anything hidden away in case someone else found the disc."

Morgan nodded. "That would be helpful. Again, you can understand that I don't wish to revisit this. I do it enough in my own mind."

Ossanlin wants to say something to Efaen to let her know that this thing was Terenia's fault, not hers, but Corliss coopts his attention and he nods tersely.  <I'm used to thought-speech interface, but I'm sure my hands may work where a humans' can.>

Ossanlin steps up to the weapons interface and laces his fingers into the holographic display, manipulating the weapons controls experimentally, referencing the holo-display to get a read on the terrain.  <Even holo-display isn't much help against cloaks.>

Suddenly the display lights up and Ossanlin analyzes the trajectory.  <Whoah, someone just fired on the bug out there, I don't recognize the ship archetype.>

A look of complete self-loathing passes over Efaen's face, her stalk eyes turning towards the closed door that leads to the bridge. She closes her main eyes, wondering what Claxter is doing on the other side of the door. He almost died because of her.

That thought shakes her from her reverie. She stares down at the pool in utter disgust, her hand shaking as dexterous fingers lift the lid. She can't help but feel as though she is going to expel the grass from her earlier run as she dips one hand beneath the sludgy surface of the pool, wrapping Terenia around her hand and pulling her up to eye level. She glares at the slug, even though she knows that Terenia cannot see.

<<I am not doing this for you, Terenia,>> Efaen says coldly, <<Don't you ever think that this is for you.>>

She takes a deep breath, steadies her hand, and places Terenia at the corner of her ear.

-----

The Imperial ship exits the atmosphere of the planet and a look of relative relief crosses the Hork-Bajir's face.

"Ten seconds to Z-space entry," the computer chirps.

"Yeah, that's why I think Thor would be a better choice. He can search the disc without playing back the horrible memories." Parker opens his hand, and Thor appears in his usual fashion. Thor looks to Gaz, "With your permission?"

((Gaz, you can control Thor while he's in your computer. That way you can discover whatever info you want to be in the disc. His voice will come from the computer's speakers, and he doesn't often show emotion in his speech.))
