"Thank you," Morgan said. "I'll be honest, even though I kept looking...after a while it was seeming pretty hopeless. But now, I feel that with her found...my wife can finally be at peace."

Morgan sipped his rum. Gaz was certainly going to be in for a surprise when she got back.

((ok, time for my own novel....sorry guys))

<What are you looking for?> Efaen asks as Terenia continues to root through the compartments. Terenia does not respond directly, concentrating on her hunt.

<You know, Efaen,> Terenia says as she searches, <I don't know why you are so eager for your freedom. What good has it ever done you? What do you have to go back to? Are you going to spend your time grazing on the homeworld and gardening? No, I can see what you want, and it will never work. No Prince will take you, and even if they do you are a female. Just because they are allowing females in the military, that does not mean they are of equal standing. If you truly want to destroy Yeerks, if you truly want to join this war, then there is another way.>

<Which is what, precisely? Being a mere vessel to your desires? My goal and yours are different in this war.>

<True,> Terenia says, pulling something out from the compartment and looking pleased. It is a pouch, which when she opens it shows various different vials, each labeled in Yeerkish. <But it doesn't have to be like that.>

<You cannot trick me with that Yeerk propaganda, Terenia,> Efaen warns, <I am not some weak, ignorant human that you can manipulate at your whim.>

<No, you aren't,> Terenia responds, <You're a mighty Andalite, with a glorious, honorable cause. I get it. I won't pull the same bull**** that they pull at The Sharing, you know as well as I do that it is exactly that: bull****. But I can make you a promise.>

Efaen does not answer, determined not to show interest, despite the fact that Terenia can sense her curiousity.

<You know I will not leave my sister's side, not so long as she is working for that over-zealous oaf, Visser Three. But I can promise you that once she is safe I will join you on your cause.> Terenia pauses, waiting for Efaen to take the bait.

<Why would you do that...?> Efaen asks slowly.

<The Yeerks and the Andalites may be equally deplorable, but it is the Yeerks who are taking over my homeworld,> Terenia shrugs and moves over to her collapsible Yeerk Pool, setting it up, <It isn't in my best interest to go around frying Yeerks now, but that doesn't mean it won't be in the future. I can make it be in my best interest. Tammy comes first, though. You help me, I'll help you. It's more than your own military can offer you. You know I can get closer to the Yeerks than they ever can.>

<I do not->

<Listen, Efaen,> Terenia says, taking a packet out of the satchel and mixing it in with the Yeerk Pool. It slowly turns the color and texture of sludge. <I am going to restrain you, as I normally do to feed. I am then going to inject you with a serum that will knock you out shortly after I exit you. Perhaps you will have time to yell for help, perhaps not. Perhaps I will be able to feed and rejoin you, perhaps they will find you here and you will escape. Either way the most I can buy myself is three days. I can't keep this up forever. So think about my offer. You have seen, through my memories, what your people are capable of. You know that you cannot trust them, or their promises.>

<Prince Ossanlin might allow me to fight alongside him,> Efaen protests.

<Maybe,> Terenia allows, setting up the restraints. One for each of Efaen's legs, one for her neck, one to weigh down her tail and one for each arm. The only restraint she leaves open her right arm, otherwise, she is locked in tight. <He may take you, he may even promise you equality...but most bigots do not know they are bigots.>

<This is->

<Enjoy your freedom, Efaen,> Terenia says, picking up one of the vials. She pulls the the cap off and the end is a long needlepoint. Quickly she injects the liquid into Efaen's left arm, replaces the top, and restrains her free arm. Almost immediately, Efaen's head begins to swim. Terenia begins to disconnect from her host.

<Remember my offer.>

Efaen slumps against her restraints, falling slowly unconscious. A moment later Terenia plops unceremoniously into the Yeerk Pool. For both Yeerk and host, the world goes black.

A short time had passed, and Claxter was beginning to worry about Efaen. <I'll bet she did set up her pool to feed. Trying to buy herself time, and maybe hoping to elude punishment because punishing her would harm Efaen as well.> He said to Zoshonel as they had gone outside.

"My ship could rip that door right off."

<That would alert her. We don't want her reentering Efaen. I'll sneak in from below with a small morph. Between the engines.>

"If she decides to fire up those engines with you in there..."

<I'll take the chance.>

Claxter morphs a small insect, and Zoshonel places him as far in as possible. He squeezes his body around wires and past pipes. Whenever he came to a dead end, he would use corrosive acids to melt through the weakest sections. The fact that the fighter was so run down helped in his objective. Injside he demorphed, and found Efaen slumped over a pool. He found the controls for the ship hatch and opened the door to allow Zoshonel to enter. Zoshonel began undoing the restraints, but Claxter stopped him. He reached down under her head to grab Terenia.

(If anyone has a problem with this post, tell me and I can edit. I'll let Tereniadecide if she gets grabbed, or managed to race back into Efaen.)

Alic watched as Terenia left. Why would they let her leave? She wouldn't be allowed to reenter Efaen, and Alic knew it was getting close for Terenia to feed.
"I'm following her.." Alic wasn't as dizzy when she stood up and walked quickly to the door. As soon as she was out she demorphed and followed Terenia to her ship.

"Thank you." She said with a sweet smile. "I can understand how you thought things would be hopeless. But I knew we would be together again someday. Maybe not here, but soon, I knew." She thought about the bad dreams and memory flashes she had been having and put it with her father's stories.

((Chad, I have no problem with you sneaking into the ship, but perhaps you should allow time for anyone else (like Alic) to make their way out before you decide to attempt entry? If Alic leaves shortly after I go to the ship she should be able to get there before Claxter finishes morphing, burrowing into the ship AND opening the hatch.

Also, as a side question...how long can a Yeerk survive outside of both a Yeerk Pool (away from any liquid) and a host? Because the answer will probably determine what Terenia ends up doing if Claxter snags her))

With a group running back after Terenia, Parker realized his answer. He kept his helmet on and walked out of the door. He leaned against the outside of the door frame and watched as Claxter morphed and infiltrated Terenia's ship and let Zoshonel in. "So much for privacy," he said to himself.

(Well alic posted after me, so I didn't see her post. I can edit so that he doesn't open the hatch so quickly. We can say Alic shows up as Claxter is morphing, if that's ok. As for a Yeerk surviving out of water when they aren't in a host, I assume they will dry up but not too quickly. Besides, once claxter gets Efaen's head away he can plop her right back into the pool.)

(As an edit, we'll rewind so that claxter is in the process of morphing when Alic shows up. I'll let Alic post again and she can assume Zoshonel or Claxter will tell her what they are planning. On a side note, though, I'm leaving town for my grandmother's house where she doesn't have internet access. I won't be able to post much until after Christmas unless I get to the library in the town where she lives. So we can either rewind to where Claxter is morphing, or push ahead because I may not be able to post for a few days. Whichever is fine with me.)

(Merry Christmas everybody.)

((I agree with Chad, in #29 the Yeerk had to be in a pouch of water for a span of a few hours, but I think they'd be able to survive a little bit of time out of water.  Maybe an hour?))

"New York, eh?  Bloody huge place, we've been there a couple of times.  Big Sharing presence there, too, of course."  Corliss shrugs.  "Reckon some things are so ingrained you can't lose 'em, not entirely."

He glances back at the door, bewildered, as several people follow Terenia out the door.  "Are we missing the party?"

Parker leans half-way into the bar after hearing Corliss, "They're making their move on Efaen, I'm just watching to make sure nothing bad happens to Terenia."

Fox turns around, raising his ears and looks around, he guards the bar from anything out of the ordinary.

((okay, I'll just go with it so things can move a bit from when you won't have internet access.

Another technical question. If Terenia is a Yeerk nothlit will she be able to use open thought-speak or not while in her Yeerk form? I would check #29, but I'm not at home...))

Efaen is completely unconscious, slumped so low in her restraints that one stalk eye is actually submerged in the pool's sludge. Her world is consumed in blackness and she has no idea that anyone has entered the ship.

Terenia senses the disturbance of her pool's water and sighs inwardly. Somehow, she knew it would come to this. She had a feeling one of the Andalites had gotten the sudden urge to be heroic and was currently convincing themselves that they were doing a great deed, saving the poor unfortunate Andalite from the evil, conniving Yeerk. Suddenly she felt her body being lifted, the blissful water with its nutrients and Kandrona fading away as a warm hand pulled her from her life source. Immediately, instinctively, the Yeerk body stretched, looking for an orifice of entry. Finding none, she curled in on herself, trying to preserve moisture on her already drying skin.

((Alic said her internet was on the fritz, she apologizes :P And that's a very good question T, I think she would be able to use long range thought-speech...but I don't have the book in front of me either x3 Even if Cassie could use it, she might not have done it in Yeerk form..))

Corliss looks back at Keshin.  "Reckon we should interfere?  I just hope they don't hurt the poor girl."

Keshin shrugs. "I suppose it's really up to you. Terenia seems like a nice kid and it wouldn't be fair to her if she didn't get any host at all. But the situation is so complicated that it may prove dangerous for all of you, if you're not careful. I'll help if you will, basically. As for Efaen, we just don't know."
