Corliss fits the third fuel cell into its newly cleaned port and stands up, wiping his forehead with a greasy hand.  He looks over at Keshin, seeming to just realize the bounty hunter was talking to him.

"Yeah," he breathes, "just a gesture of like, friendly neutrality."  He flexes his fingers, especially the ones that were mildly singed from repairing the cells.  His left hand.  Unfortunately his shooting hand.

<God, mate, you always jump to the worst conclusions,> Mike complains.  <She inn't a ticking bloody time bomb, you know.>

<Yes, she is,> Corliss replies, eyes narrowing.

Keshin ****s his head a bit and nods, although in a fairly confused way. "You're a real oddball, Corliss. But at least you're tolerable. Myitt would be accusing me of tampering with the fuel cells or of plotting to kill her by now."

<But we are plotting to kill 'im.>

<Later. ....hopefully. At this rate, maybe never.>

<Can I play?>

<Sure.>

Joanne then smiles, uncricks her neck, and glances at Corliss. "Well I'm glad we're not killin' each other, anyway! Nice break from death!"

Corliss relaxes a hair, but just watches her.  "Yeah," he says finally.  "Reckon I'm glad too.  I didn't know you actually liked taking a break from your line of work.  Seems like the money would just keep rolling in, eh?"  He grabs a towel and wipes his hands, hanging it on a bit of metal handle, and seals the panel up again.  "Terenia, the only way we can figure if you need coolant is by getting power to those cells.  See if you can turn the ship on."  He doesn't move, just glares back at Keshin/Joanne, waiting.

Joanne rolls her eyes and walks towards Corliss. "Come on, man. We already told ya that we're full up on cash for now. An' Kess said that we can't kill all of ya at once, y'know? It wouldn' work. You got a lotta big friends out here."

"Plus.." Joanne paces about, scratching at the lice in her hair. It isn't bad due to the short length, but she suspects she hasn't had a bath in far too long. "...everybody runs outta steam sooner or later. I killed and stole and drank until I had nothin' left before this started. Then I fell and Kess found me."

Corliss doesn't flinch.  "Is that how you met, then?  Figures The Sharing would recruit from AA.  It isn't official, of course, I would've known about it."

Fox continues to wait for an answer and continues to observe how the aliens enteract with each other. He quickly looks at Parker then looks back at the main group fixing the ship.

Joanne nods quietly and turns around, thinking. It isn't a subject that she normally dwells on for very long, but it is a fairly painful memory and the rebel seems trustworthy enough.

<This is a bad idea, Joanne.>

<I hear it's a common story, Kess. It's not like I'll say too much. You know me.>

"I thought I was gonna turn my whole life around. Everything was gonna change. I was gonna be part of a big plan. I was more ready than anybody. ......turns out it was a lie. But it didn' matter, 'cause Keshin found out all of it. At first we kinda tried to hang low, not bring it up. Kess says it was important stuff he got from me, but somethin' in 'im didn' think he'd be able to keep me. He wanted a fightin' edge. Things went bad, and we ran."

"Why didn't Keshin just use your power to climb the ranks?" Corliss asks.  "My god, a human metabolic anomaly, even with your medical drawbacks I reckon you could've 'ad whatever you wanted.  Assignments, ships, power.  But that's not you, innit?  Something 'appened that made you run.  And made you stick together."  He shrugs.  "You don't have to tell us your whole life story, mate, we've got work to do."

Joanne frowns, as if this thought had never even occurred to her before. Which it hadn't. "To be honest...I don't know. Why Keshin didn' use me like he could have. He went on 'bout too much energy in the wrong places doin' the wrong things and I didn' know what he was talkin' about. All I know is I'm fried unless I get all the supplies. Guess it's not my thing. I fight. All I know is...Kess thought 'bout it for a long time 'fore we decided ta go. And I trust him."

Joanne smiles a bit. "Thanks. I know we'll just kill each other later, but I haven' said that to anyone but Kess."

"Maybe he just felt bad for you," Corliss says with a shrug.  "I know what it's like to get real close to someone you aren't supposed to even acknowledge, let alone befriend."  He smiles dangerously.  "And who says we have to kill each other later?"

Joanne shrugs. The moment appears to have passed for her. "I dunno. You're Wanted pretty big an' all. Odds are someday we'll need the cash again and I'll try to kill ya dead. No offense or nothin'. Although I think your sister takes offense. She's way high on the Empire's list, so we've met like three times. Some of those were the best damn fights of me life." Joanne grins widely at this last statement.

Joanne peers at the fuel cells, which now seem to be primed and ready for Terenia to try and start the engine. "You did a real good job. From what I can see, this looks fixed. Were you sayin' there was somethin' else?"

Ossanlin nods to Claxter and smiles.  <<All's fair in love and war...I believe that's what Myitt told me the humans say...a surprisingly accurate adage coming from humans.  Any advantage at all...that's the name of the game...you have to take any advantage you can find, it's the only way to survive.>>  Ossanlin nods and watches as Claxter moves toward the ship...he seems...interested. ..in the human-andalite female.  Not surprising, but he would do well to remember that she wasn't an andalite and did not appreciate andalites much at all.  He wouldn't say anything, not yet.  Claxter seemed to have a head when he decided to use it.  If things went too far, he would intervene.  Everyone else seems to be focused on Terenia's ship.  Ossanlin smiles and trots away casually...this was perfect, he had a chance now to preserve Mar's avatar.

As Ossanlin gets beyond sight of the group, he closes his eyes and his fur flashes quicksilver, his eyes glowing bright blue.  He hadn't entered the timestream since being there with Mar...but simply stepping in and out was much simpler than reconnecting a life-thread...a small exposure shouldn't hurt him too much.  He bends down and picks Mar's body up, using his tail to help support the weight, and focuses, time crystalizing around him until his body fazes into the nether stretches of the timestream.

Endless glowing threads of light pulse and flash...some snapping before his eyes only to be replaced by new ones splitting off and fissioning away from others.  Time was of no meaning here...or of all meaning depending on how one looked at it.  Ossanlin quickly weaves a small thread of energy...an anchor, to Mar's unconscious and unliving form...it would not decay here, nor suffer any ravage of time.  It would be preserved.  He ties the thread off to a point on his own timeline, just past...the past was much less mutable than the future, he would be able to find Mar's body again, even if he had to use old memories as a signpost.

Time itself seems to solidify around Mar's form and it becomes a part of the timestream...immort al and timeless...the process was easily reversed...well, by those who knew what they were doing it was.  Ossanlin's mind flashes and he suddenly feels quite ill...this was not a place he could be for any length of time.  He quickly opens the current thread of reality and dives back in, a point behind the bar crystalizing before his form appears within, the crystal appearing to melt into nothingness.  Ossanlin shakes his head and regains his bearings...such a strange place, the timestream.

Ossanlin focuses again, his body reverting back to its traditional blue-furred form, his eyes continuing to glow just slightly.  He trots back toward the group fixing the ship to check on the repairs...and to make sure this Keshin hadn't killed anyone...or Corliss burned a finger off or something.  he notices Terenia on the boarding ramp and raises an eyebrow as she seems to avoid him.  He sends her a private thought-speech...the tone of his thought is wry.  <<We're not all arrogant, bigotted megalomaniacs you know.>>  Ossanlin smiles a bit with his eyes.  Maybe the humor would be lost, but the message was quite true.

<You are correct,> Terenia says stiffly. An Andalite scientist would love access to a Bug Fighter, even one so thrown together as this one.> Terenia paused, leaning back on her hind legs to watch Corliss work. <Of course they would also love the opportunity to shove me in a box and study me. Or kill me...> Terenia shrugs off that particular possibility, <point is, no Andalite in their right mind would issue me any sort of fighter, no matter where it came from.>

Claxter was overhearing the conversation between Corliss and Joanne. He felt he should probably avoid her and Keshin, or at least not drop his guard whn they are around. Corliss seemed okay, and Terenia had basically admitted that she didn't work for an Andalite. Of course there were other employers besides Yeerks. Skrit Na were known to collect junk from Yeerks, but who would want to work for a Skrit Na?
