"Some try to set off on their own to start off with," Morgan said. "What they're made of will determine if they've got what it takes. People think that because nowadays you've got better ships, bein a pirate is easier. It's not. Those people don't tend to last very long. If they really hear the call to the black...those are the names that get remembered."
"That's how Morgan got started actually," Gaz commented. "Was sick of things where he was. A lot of land lubbers claim they feel the call, but they don't got what it takes."
"Best thing you can do is find someone experienced," Morgan continued. "Serve on their ship for a time and learn from them."
"That's what I did," Gaz said. "Was at another planet side bar and saw Morgan. I'd heard his name around, knew he was one of the best, and asked to ship out. After a time he helped me secure my own ship. Just need to work on securing a crew."
"Once your in the trade," Morgan said, "It's important to make a name for yourself. Make alliances with other ships. Though once you get yourself a crew or a ship, first person you should talk to is Cortex. He's got connections, you wouldn't believe. Can get you parts and information no one else might be able to get."
"No one has ever figured out how he quite does it," Gaz mused.
Morgan took a sip of rum, chuckled and said, "That was probably more information than you needed."
