Corliss watches Belzar and Terenia trade their remarks, watches Terenia become more and more disgusted and upset. Toward the end of her tirade he, too, feels awkward and he stares down at Mike's boots. As Terenia scuffs her hoof and her thought speech rings in his head, he looks up.
"Terenia," he says quietly, "I can't pretend to know the hell you've been put through. I can't. I do know that you'd rather accomplish your goals by yourself, on your own, without anyone meddling in your life. But...perhaps, in coming here, in meeting Ossanlin and my brother and our weird little band, you really have set in motion the right things at the right time to free your sister. Yes, it's indirect, but if they do succeed, it's really you who have succeeded, simply by being here. By putting into place the things that were necessary to finally free Tamora, whether you really wanted outside help or not. At the very least, it will have expedited the whole process. How long were you waiting, trapped under the thumb of Visser Three, who is still breathing down your neck to this very day? How many long years? Isn't it time to end all of that pointless suffering?"
