"Z-zoos?!" Vanessa stammered with complete indignance. "I'm not a zebra!" Then the girl coughed. "I mean, or any other zoo-related animal." When the first monster--she had to stop thinking of them as that--asked if she had anything else of hers on the ship, she shook her head and shifted the backpack on her shoulders. "This is all I have.."
Her stomach growled as soon as he mentioned food, and Vanessa realized that she hadn't really eaten in... however long it had been since she was abducted. "Ohhh god, food. Yes, please."
When the second of the... creatures... Kevlin, asked where she lived, Vanessa started to respond automatically. "Seven Forty Two Half P--" Then she cut herself off, blushing as she realized how little help her address would do. "I mean umm, Earth. Earth?" She gulped then. "I'm a long... long way from there, huh?"
The voice that had asked if she was okay now shouted up to ask who was with her. Vanessa blinked at that. "Ummm, I... Kevlin and... and Temrash!" She called back before shrugging to the other two. "Can we leave this... this spaceship now? I really don't like it here. Even less now." Then she raised her voice once again. "We're coming out, I think..."
Outwardly, Vanessa seemed to be taking this as much in stride as possible. Inwardly, she was still freaking out. But something told her that giving in to that terror and confusion in this moment wasn't going to accomplish anything. Her parents weren't here. Her friends weren't here. It was just her, and the friends she could make. If she wanted to get home, she couldn't curl up and start screaming.
