"I wonder if Efaen meant Michael, or me," Corliss wonders aloud, knowing Efaen can probably hear him, toying with the Andalite.  "Technically, she was addressing me, but Mike's the one who really did the actual act of touching, before.  Blast, now I'm awfully confused."

He glances at Ossanlin, the pain in his head no longer such a nuisance for the time being.  Strange.

"I wonder who they were," Corliss replies.  "Awfully short fuse, I reckon."

"I am a priest of a very powerful god." Fredrick said. Trey asked who he was, even though he already said his name. "I was sent here after a session of prayer, and and working out why I am here as well as taking advantage of the moment. It is nice to meet you, Trey. You seem to have been injured recently. I trust there was no permanent damage?" He asked.

Terenia glances back towards Ossanlin, "Perhaps they did not injure him, but the situation probably would have never arose if Temrash didn't think punching an Andalite was a good idea." She snorts slightly, "I thought a former Visser would be smarter than that."

"You do have a point, though," Terenia realizes, "Those soldiers, whoever they are, acted like morons. They should pay."

"I'll live,"Trey says noncommitally, one hand subconsciously brushing at his newest bandages along his side, where his jumpsuit is tattered. He glances at Elayne, looking for support before continuing. Talking has never been Trey's strong suit, especially small talk. In this case, however, what Fredrick has to say does interest Trey mildly. "You say you're a priest? That's a rather outdated profession, isn't it?"

"Well, that depends on how active the local dieties are." Fredrick said. "For instance, the dieties that some of the Human mythologies are based on have already left the planet for other parts of the universe. I assure you, though, that I do reap rewards for my profession. So what do you do for a living?"

Trey shifts from one foot to the other, still hoping that Elayne will jump in and save him from the impromptu conversation. He does answer Fredrick, though. Not to would be rude, and he was trained from an early age to answer a question promptly and honestly or face severe consequences.

"I am a refugee, I suppose," Trey said. The word sounded funny on his tongue. It was the first time he had referred to himself as such, but it was the best explanation for his current situation. "No job, really. On Earth I'm still considered a grub by most standards. My job is - was - to do what I was told."

Fredrick noticed he was making the Human uncomfortable. Perhaps he wasn't much of a public speaker. Good. Awkwardness made people easier to manipulate.

"A grub that was just supposed to do what he's told? Sounds like being in the military. Having to do what your sergeant says, and being called demeaning names. I suppose not everyone is cut out for it? So you left? Well, I won't judge. We all have our roles to play in the Divine Game. Tell me more about yourself."

As Morgan reached in to fix the broken circuit that Silver had found, he asked her, "How's the finger? Does it need any attention?"

Inside, Gaz thought for a moment. It had been a while since they had a decent job.

"What sort of thing are we talkin about here?" Gaz asked.

"I'm beginning to get that impression," Fiona muses, looking around the bar.

At Mar's question, she turns red. She swings around so she's facing the bar. "I'd prefer not to talk about it, all right?" She picks up her drink.

As Myitt seizes one flat, Tora drags the last two pallets out of the ship, hacking and gasping from holding her breath so long. Already bothering her is the concern of how to destroy her ship without damaging others. Perhaps they should use some other means... Straightening, she puts her hands on her hips, her breath, still heavy, coming in wheezes.

Perhaps it was just Trey's discomfort, but Frederick's sudden appearance and interest in them struck Elayne as somewhat off, as well. She was now experiencing a similar feeling of stomach-churning interest as she often felt when talking with Mar. Still, the poor boy kept looking to her for help.

"Why the abrupt interest?" Elayne cuts in, raising her eyebrows skeptically. "And what the hell kind of religion do you promote, if you acknowledge the existence of other gods, or their willingness to abandon their subjects? I've never heard a religious leader spouting anything like that."

I stood up and just looked around. The RIMS Milo Khorvilis would be gone by now. It would take me some time to get the Cogomium compound off my starship. I should probably go start the process. I couldn't use a laser, phase'r, taser...any weapon. It was part of my hull, thanks to Fenebok. I would have to do manual labor, or construct some sort of compound extraction beam...

No. The cogomium will make my ship even more powerful, and I don't have to take the responsibility for cowardice. My brother was the coward, and I could profit from it if need be.

"Now what?" I asked John and Bear, and pretty much anyone near us at the bar counter. It was a general question really.

"I am interested because I'm a social and friendly being. I like meeting new people, and bringing new converts to my way of life." Fredrick said to the woman. "My God is a being that unifies all people under his command. Bringing peace through enlightening people to one mind. One goal. Those who follow him do not war with each other, for they are of one people." He said. "He is known by multiple names, but he is most well know as The One."

Trey has never heard of this particular deity, but the way in which Fredrick speaks of him is disconcerting. It sounds more like brainwashing than true unity. Trey decides against saying as much, though, and he is grateful for Elayne distracting the conversation from himself. His own past is not particularly thrilling, but it is something he wishes to avoid dwelling on, especially in the presence of strangers that give off such an odd vibe. He says nothing, eyes flickering from Fredrick to Elayne.

I stare at my bottle for a moment, contemplating. "A cure. For one of the deadliest viruses ever seen. It has a %99.999 mortality rate." I look at Gaz, "With an entire planet desperate for a cure that doesn't exist, I'm fairly certain you'll have a substantial profit margin."

I look at the shot-glass.

"There... may be a quicker way of filling you in on all of this. Think of it as a job pitch and resume all rolled into one." Looking directly at Gaz, I ask her, "Are you familiar with the concept of genetic memories and the ability to transfer them from one person to another?"

"Sounds..." Elayne begins, not sure what to say to not offend the priest, "ambitious." The downturn of her lips reveals her discomfort with the idea of conversion or of a religion that everyone should follow. "You might find a few willing converts around here, but probably not a lot. From what I've seen, the Bar is full of folks who've seen hard times and come to rely only on themselves and a few close friends. They've been betrayed, and they're not easily going to put their trust in some new, invisible deity." She gives a bland smile. "No offense, of course."

"None taken." Fredrick said, smiling. "A few converts here, and a few converts there has satisfied my God so far."
