Title: Yeerks and salt?
Post by: daspudding on September 15, 2008, 10:22:50 AM
There was one thing that I wondered the entire series, do Yeerks die from salt like Earth slugs do?  One would think that at some point in the series there would have been a torture scene or something like that.

"MELTING............ ...........MELTING"

well what makes salt do that to earth slugs?

In a word, osmosis.  The terran slug is mostly comprised of water, so when salt is introduced to its skin, the water in its body moves out to compensate for the lower concentration of water that it is experiencing.

Basically it dries it out.

But the problem here is not that much about the biology of a Yeerk was ever explained.

well then, it could possibly have some effect, since a yeerk is covered in some sort of mucus.

Terran Slug? Nice to know some people know the correct terminology!  ;) I have to admit that Terran 3 sounds way cooler than Earth.

Yeah, basically salt dehydrates the slug. Not a nice way to go so I don't do it anymore. Anyway, we don't know enough about Yeerk slugs, but it might work.

Oh, and we did already discuss this in another thread, can't remember which one though.

You could make a maze where all the walls were made of salt and put a yeerk in it.

It would be like a tiny version of Saw.

It could work since Yeerks seem to be very "moist" creatures...

Lol I've always wondered that too oddly enough. But yeah, it probably would do the Yeerk some damage given that their basically squishy and slimy like most Earth (or Terran) slugs are. Though it would be pretty cruel torture....

However IMO it's something that Visser Three deserves >:D teeheehee

Did they ever decide what do do with Visser Three?  coz I forget. I think they should've put the Yeerk slug into a pretzal bag. Mwahahahaha!  :evilgrin27:

Visser Three (or Visser One as he later became known) was prosecuted in court and was presumably found guilty. In which case, he would have spent the rest of his life inside the small prison they constructed for him.

Oh, yeah.

Well, I hope it was made of EXTRA-salty pretzals!!! Mwahahahaha! :evilgrin27:

Who would put salt on a Yeerk? Who would eat a Yeerk? ;)
Anyway, I think salt would kill them... Many species would die with too many salt on them...

"I kidnapped a Yeerk and poured salt all over it. It didn't seem to be working at first, but after 3 days the filthy slug suddenly disintegrated!"  ;D

For some reason that thought just popped into my head. If I wrote parody fics, I'd probably use that line.

It would make sense that dumping salt on a Yeerk would do something. And yeah...why and when you would have the chance to do this...*shrug*.

But, they live in a wet environment. They depend on the pool to survive, so that means moisture is pretty important for them. And since salt absorbs moisture...I can't see how rolling in salt would be a beneficial thing.

now the REAL question, is what would happen if you covered a yeerk in chocolate?
Title: Re: Yeerks and salt?

It would mean a new restauraunt. The Yeerk.

Welcome to the Yeerk. Try our special, friend Yeerk on rye. And for dessert why not some chocolate covered Yeerk with sprinkles?

Mmmmm, escargot....  ;D

What's xptdr Dameg?  We must know! XD

Yeah, I think salt would probably kill a Yeerk, or at least hurt them badly...dehydration and all that...o.o nasty way to go.

Explanation about "xptdr":
You know "lol"...
In French, "lol" is "mdr" = "mort de rire"
But we have stronger "laughts":
"ptdr" = "pété de rire"
"xptdr" who is "ptdr"++ ^_^ Just the biggest "mdr" or "lol"

Our favorite Vissers brother was a cannibal of fellow Yeerks if I remember my books correctly. Mmm

I would try deep fried Yeerk on a stick at the local state fair. ;)

Ooo. Was that in The Capture story arc? The only part of the show that did not suck horribly.

I don't remember what episode it was in...but I remember it and it was one of the few funny, non soul-crushingly-awful moments in the series x3

hmm I never thought of that..I think it would've killed them, but like Mike said..not a nice way to go :P even though they would've deserved it.

If you put a fly underwater and let him drown, then put it in a little pile of salt, it comes back to life. (well, if you hold it under too long, it won't come back..so I think you have to hold it under til it passes out)

No. That's mildly disturbing...
