Yeerks and salt?
« on: September 15, 2008, 10:22:50 AM »
There was one thing that I wondered the entire series, do Yeerks die from salt like Earth slugs do?  One would think that at some point in the series there would have been a torture scene or something like that.

"MELTING............ ...........MELTING"

In a word, osmosis.  The terran slug is mostly comprised of water, so when salt is introduced to its skin, the water in its body moves out to compensate for the lower concentration of water that it is experiencing.

Basically it dries it out.

But the problem here is not that much about the biology of a Yeerk was ever explained.

well then, it could possibly have some effect, since a yeerk is covered in some sort of mucus.

Terran Slug? Nice to know some people know the correct terminology!  ;) I have to admit that Terran 3 sounds way cooler than Earth.

Yeah, basically salt dehydrates the slug. Not a nice way to go so I don't do it anymore. Anyway, we don't know enough about Yeerk slugs, but it might work.

Oh, and we did already discuss this in another thread, can't remember which one though.

You could make a maze where all the walls were made of salt and put a yeerk in it.

It would be like a tiny version of Saw.

It could work since Yeerks seem to be very "moist" creatures...

Lol I've always wondered that too oddly enough. But yeah, it probably would do the Yeerk some damage given that their basically squishy and slimy like most Earth (or Terran) slugs are. Though it would be pretty cruel torture....

However IMO it's something that Visser Three deserves >:D teeheehee

Did they ever decide what do do with Visser Three?  coz I forget. I think they should've put the Yeerk slug into a pretzal bag. Mwahahahaha!  :evilgrin27:

Visser Three (or Visser One as he later became known) was prosecuted in court and was presumably found guilty. In which case, he would have spent the rest of his life inside the small prison they constructed for him.

Who would put salt on a Yeerk? Who would eat a Yeerk? ;)
Anyway, I think salt would kill them... Many species would die with too many salt on them...

I think salt would kill them. Or at least SOME chemical. But, as Dameg pointed out, why, other than to torture it, would you put salt on a Yeerk?

Now I wonder how Yeerks taste...

"Try our new fresh garden salad, now with tasty pieces of salted Yeerk for only $3.95 at McDonald's!"
