If a sincere Animorphs movie or tv series were to be made, what current young actors do you reckon could fill the roles? Might I mention that the Animorphs in the book start out being like 13-14 years old, and ought to look like it.  The Animorphs show made them look to old, like college freshman almost. Here's a quick sample: Jake: Charlie McDermott? Marco: Mark Indelicato, Tobias: Thomas Horn, Rachel: Lily Rose Depp, Cassie: Amandla Stenberg.     I think Mcdermott is too big now.

Wow, that cast list was amazingly spot on. Who would play Ax's human morph?

If this ever were adapted to screen they'd probably make the characters older than they are depicted in the books.

I haven't thought of that one, kind of tough.

So don't do it.   :P

Personally I have no issue with the idea of the Animorphs starting a little older -- in high school rather than middle school, though they'd still be no older than 18 by end of series.

It kind of lessens the impact of it all, I think, the closer they get to enlisting-in-the-military age.  So much more shocking and "eep!" when it's a 13 year old witnessing all the events of the start of book 1, and pretty soon after that having to deal with...killing sentient beings and living with the paranoia of the invasion and all.  To me, anyway, 16-17 is getting up there a little too close to adult in mindset and such.

I certainly agree with your response, couldn't have said it any better.

Yeah, I mean, I can't say I agree with your actor suggestion list at all (aside from maybe Cassie, really seems to fit looks-wise), but then again I'm admittedly barely familiar with any of them at all.  But you're totally right in that they kind of either need to be the right ages, or at least look it, y'know?  You could get away with 15-16 year olds if they look young, but you really don't want like...highschool seniors for this.  I mean, the Animorphs shouldn't be the same age as, say, the characters in Superbad, it'd feel all kinds of wrong.

I really struggle to think of anyone I'd really want to see in a potential Animorphs flick as any of the kids, certainly with anyone "current".  I think ultimately it'd work best with close-to-total-unknowns, or total unknowns, like when they were casting Harry Potter.  Helps a lot with the buying into it, too, for the audience, if it's not like "lol Dakota Fanning as Rachel".

The closest I've personally come to finding people I could see in the roles would be maybe Joseph Gordon-Levitt back in the 90s, as a teenager, for Marco.  Maybe.  But again, not ideal.  And Rachel, I've always thought Alicia Silverstone gives off a really "Rachel vibe" in the Aerosmith video for "Cryin'", both in looks and general attitude at the end in the diner.  But even then, again it's kind of only in this video, and she'd have been too old there anyway.  In 1993, haha.

Aerosmith cryin'

Also randomly thought recently with the newer episodes of Modern Family, the kid who plays Luke might even work as Erek.  Obviously very different characters, but seems like he could probably fit the part.

Also that gymnast girl, Gabby Douglas is it?  Kind of gives off a "Cassie vibe" to me in interviews, that kind of calm/mature/peaceful-but-strong thing going on.

I'm a teacher.  Trust me.  16 years old is PLENTY far enough away from adult in mind set.

Oh, it's not adult, I'm not saying that.  Just that there's a pretty serious difference between a 12/13 year old and a 16/17 year old.  16 year olds were fighting in WW1/WW2.  It's the tail end of adolescence, and only a year or two away from being able to enlist.

Plus you'd be ditching all of the cool ideas like "let's try to live to be old enough to get driver's licenses!" and stuff.   :P
