Keshin lifts out one of the protein supplements and begins to open it, wondering if the substance was chewable this time. It would taste terrible in that form, but they were that hungry. Keshin chuckles. "It's a shot in the dark, but we never expected to be on this ship at all. Nor did we expect the opportunity. Any chance we can get to escape our fate is worth looking into, even if it's unlikely. Besides..." Keshin begins to waver in the room slightly, pacing a bit as if to move in order to put together his thoughts. He eventually stops in place, looking at Illim and crossing his arms. "....they might just do it. We're going to be expensive to support otherwise, without our medic. You see...."
Keshin glances down, biting his lip. "....I guess Myitt never told you this. Who would believe some of it?" Keshin looks up and smiles ever so slightly. If someone had told an uninvolved him all the details, he realized, he would think they were lying or mad. "Joanne has an extremely rare cellular mutation, as in rare to the point that we've never heard of anyone living through it. Research on Earth turned up a few other known cases, but they were all dead within a few years. The reason we became a turelek was to fund the medicine we need to keep Joanne's metabolic rate stable. Exactly how she made it so many years alive on Earth, without the Empire.....well, we don't really know. Miracles are what they are. It had some advantages for a while, but now....it's just killing her. Morphing another human without the defect would save her life."
