Eleric's main eyes widen as he actually looks directly at the human female, dumbfounded for a few moments.  He recovers quickly, though, and his expression turns serious.  <<How can you produce thought-speech?!  That shouldn't be even remotely possible!>>

Efaen makes a derisive noise in the back of her throat. <<For an Andalite, you are not particularly intelligent, are you?>> she says. <<I am in morph, you moron.>> She grunts as she pushes herself to her feet, using the tree to balance as she stands upright. A quick glance at the battle assures her that it is still going on and most of the onlookers are caught up in watching.

<<You should know better than to believe your eyes when you belong to the very species that invented morphing technology,>> she says in a quieter voice. She doesn't demorph, though, letting him draw his own conclusions.

<In...morph...?>  His eyes dart around the dome before returning to her, one eyebrow arched.  <You are...Andalite?  Why are you morphed?  And as a human, no less.  I know Ossanlin asked us to try to understand the humans...but don't you think remaining in human morph is taking it a bit far?>

As he falls silent, he does a mental double-take.  That had been a decidedly female thought-speech voice.  One that he doesn't recognize.

<<I prefer this form,>> Efaen responds, turning her gaze back to the sparring match, though she is still paying attention to Eleric. <<It would please your captain to no end if I were to resume inhabiting my Andalite body, I have no doubt.>> She pauses, watching for a moment before continuing <<I was born Andalite, but I spent most of my remembered time with the Yeerk and human rebels, in this body. They are my allies, and yours as well now, so I would appreciate it if you dropped the derisive attitude.>>

Finally the insults that had been pushed aside by shock catch up with him.  <<Why in Sky would you prefer a human form?>>  He scoffs and shakes his head.

<<Wait...you lived with the Yeerks?  You must be that female Warrior that wiped out a whole bunch of them...Efaen, wasn't it?  Pretty tailsy move, that, given the way Ossanlin feels about them.>>

Efaen's shoulders stiffen. <<I am Efaen, yes,>> she says quietly, her eyes narrowing at the ground. <<And, yes, I murdered a number of the rebel Yeerks. Several dozen. Dozens more were paralyzed for life as  result of my actions.>> She doesn't offer an explanation or an apology, her expression grim.

Aetheas ignores the few onlookers that have gathered-- he's used to them at this point, even if the human in their midst is something new. And besides, he's got Claxter on the defensive this time!

Unfortunately, that means he really has no choice but to continue his fast, high offensive. He keeps three eyes on Claxter, his fourth searching for anything he might be able to use to his advantage, but he knows that if he lets up his assault for even a second, Claxter will be able to turn it around and come right back at him. It seems all he can do is try to force the Command-Warrior back towards the stream.

Wincing with every swing of his tail, he presses the attack.

Claxter noticed eleric start talking to Efaen, and whatever he was saying wasn't making her too happy. He thought about telling Eleric to take a hike, but Efaen might react negatively to that. Unless he started threatening her, Claxter would let the conversation go.

Honestly he respected Eleric as a great pilot, though he was another Andalite who was too egotistic for his rank. when did Claxter start noticing this kind of thing? It didn't use to bother him, but maybe hanging around people like Prince Ossanlin that didn't care much for Andalites that were full of themselves was starting to wear on him.

Aetheas' tail got close enough to brush against his fur without really touching skin, and Claxter forced all thoughts from his head. Suddenly his back hooves hit the water, and he realized he was about to get slowed down in the mud and water. The best course of action was probably to just take a leap and bring the fight to the water. It might even be good practice for fighting in boggy terrain.

Illim's eyebrows raise immediately and dramatically at Keshin's words. "You think they'd let a non-Andalite get their hands on that technology? I mean... I'll give you this is an abnormal group of Andalites, but that's progressive, even for this bunch." He frowns as he continues watching them. "What do you mean, save Joanne from her own body?" He asks curiously as he bends down to open a crate, revealing protein supplements inside.

Keshin lifts out one of the protein supplements and begins to open it, wondering if the substance was chewable this time. It would taste terrible in that form, but they were that hungry. Keshin chuckles. "It's a shot in the dark, but we never expected to be on this ship at all. Nor did we expect the opportunity. Any chance we can get to escape our fate is worth looking into, even if it's unlikely. Besides..." Keshin begins to waver in the room slightly, pacing a bit as if to move in order to put together his thoughts. He eventually stops in place, looking at Illim and crossing his arms. "....they might just do it. We're going to be expensive to support otherwise, without our medic. You see...."

Keshin glances down, biting his lip. "....I guess Myitt never told you this. Who would believe some of it?" Keshin looks up and smiles ever so slightly. If someone had told an uninvolved him all the details, he realized, he would think they were lying or mad. "Joanne has an extremely rare cellular mutation, as in rare to the point that we've never heard of anyone living through it. Research on Earth turned up a few other known cases, but they were all dead within a few years. The reason we became a turelek was to fund the medicine we need to keep Joanne's metabolic rate stable. Exactly how she made it so many years alive on Earth, without the Empire.....well, we don't really know. Miracles are what they are. It had some advantages for a while, but now....it's just killing her. Morphing another human without the defect would save her life."

Illim raises his eyebrows, the protein packet in his hands all but forgotten as he stares at Keshin. Then he gives a low whistle. "No. Myitt didn't tell me. I only vaguely knew who you were, anyway."

He stands, knees popping in protest, something that has become more pronounced since his recent captivity. It seems to have aged his host noticeably. "Look, I'm glad you kept her alive, and that you might have found a permanent solution through morphing. But, to be honest with you, I'm mostly just glad you won't have a reason to be a turelek anymore. Unless, of course you choose to continue being an ass."

Keshin laughs. Illim's assertion about them was about as true as it got. "I'll try and make sure Joanne doesn't continue being an ass on my watch."

<Hey, don' put that **** on me.>

<Very well, but you do contribute.>

"You have to admit that we do have an option," mutters Keshin with an awkward look. "....go along with War-Prince Ossanlin's mad peace plan. What do you honestly make of it? We aren't all exactly the best of shipmates so far. "

Aetheas curses, silently-- he's getting so close to Claxter while his attention is elsewhere, but the Command-Warrior is managing to keep him at bay. He watches for a moment, shocked, as Claxter simply leaps back into the stream. He was not expecting that. He barely manages to parry Claxter's subsequent slash, and then he finds himself on the defensive, stumbling into the water.

Ossanlin brings up a computer display of the locations of each of the humans on the ship.  Some are in the dome, others in their quarters...none are outside of restricted zones.  Even Keshin...or Joanne, rather.  Ossanlin sweeps over the visual feed of the dome and notices a sparring session that had drawn a bit of a group.  Claxter and... Aetheas?  Claxter had managed to get the aristh actively engaged in tail-fighting...remarkable.  Ossanlin had believed, after the latest unfortunate attempt, that Aetheas would be soured on the idea altogether.  Aetheas seems to be using a form of tail-fighting that keeps his good side toward Claxter.  A weakness in a duel to be sure, but perhaps ingenious for someone in Aetheas's condition.

Ossanlin watches the feed for a moment before shutting it down.  Watching a sparring tail-fight is not his responsibility at the moment.  <Enorryma, please run a tier three diagnostic on Apix 2 Coil alpha.  Let's make sure the double-jump didn't disturb the emitter alignment.>

Normally neither Ossanlin nor Enorryma would need to be involved in such a test, but with no First Engineer and a less-than minimal engineering staff, others would have to pick up some of the slack.

Eleric narrows his eyes at Efaen's puzzling response...or rather lack of one.  Then he remembers that her memories had been erased and he smiles a bit.  <Rebels took your memories too, huh?  Can't say that's very fair.  Better than being infested I guess.>  His smile turns into a ****y grin.  <<Maybe I can teach you how to pilot a tail-fighter again.  I bet you could make a pretty fierce little pilot.>>  He arches an eyebrow winningly.  Most females liked it when he did that.

Near knee deep in water, Claxter once again focused solely on the battle. He made some quick strikes towards Aetheas' torso and neck, trying to get some good footing in the mud. In truth he hadn't had a lot of practice fighting in shallow water. Even if he got a piloting career, there was still a chance of enemies boarding the ship. Though the chances of him getting into a tailfight right here in the river were still small. He'd be up guarding the bridge. Just keeping a good sparring session fresh was sometimes a good enough reason to change the terrain.
