<Save the apologies for later Ax> The monster kept firing, taking out those who we had freed with so much effort, and Ax, he kept attacking <Ax are you nuts, fall back! We're getting out of here!>
(SAM)
One of the fireballs hit the staircase in front of me. Tom was there, he wasn't scorched as many as the poor bastards had, but the blast sent him flying to the edge of the stairs, I dived, using my one good arm to grab his hand, he hanged, maybe 40 feet in the air with nothing but me to hold him. I could have pulled him up one handed, he wasn't too heavy, I was more than strong enough. But my hand was slippery with blood from holding my face, he slipped, he fell, but the way he looked at me the instant before, begging me to hold one just a bit more. And I failed.

<Noooooooooooo!> The tiger let a terrible roar, Sam! He screwed up! No, it wasn't his fault, he gave everything he had.
I had to get over pain and rage, there would be time for that later, all that mattered now was getting out of here. <Move!Just go!Move!>
