((Sorry, I would like to post ridiculously often, but I think it's best to wait until every character has at least one post before seriously progressing))
I stood in silence as the blue alien told us about his race's battle against the slugs and about the Yeerks themselves. When he cried out in pain, my heart felt heavy. I noticed Marco's distress out of the corner of my eye, but I didn't- I couldn't- say anything about it. Then we were offered the chance to fight this invasion. I was taken aback when Tobias immediately volunteered- wasn't he the type of kid that got picked on in school, not the brave type? Then when my cousin spoke up, I saw where this was going. Trust reliable Jake to help someone out in need. That might be why Tobias hangs round with him, I realised. I wasn't expecting Cassie to speak up just like that, and when Marco signed up, I was jolted out of my inaction and stepped forwards defiantly.
"If you guys are going to kick some Yeerk butt, I'm definitely up for it." Then I spoke three words, three words that I had no idea were going to become so very significant later on in this fight. "Let's do it." Fixing my eyes on Elfangor, I approached him, being careful not to get too close to Tobias because he was acting really weird. "So, five kids. How exactly are we going to do this?" Adults in important places wouldn't believe anything we said if we tried to tell them about aliens, so what else could we do? Elfangor wasn't in a state to go find anyone in a position of power- he was really hurt, and the red lights that were drawing nearer slowly made me feel tense, really tense. We're too young to join the army, there are licenses you have to get to own guns and none of us are exactly the Karate Kid. There's a massive difference between being able to do a backflip and kicking someone then doing a backflip to avoid getting hit by gunfire or something. Sure, I'm a gymnast, but I have no firepower. I waited impatiently to hear what Elfangor had in mind when it came to equipping an army of teenagers.
