((sorry guys, just moved halfway across the country so had no internet!))
I nodded slowly, gathering up all my courage.
"Yeah, I guess I'll try it now." Looking around the woods to check that nobody else was around, I shut my eyes and imagined the eagle, trying to concentrate. I suddenly felt like I was falling and opened my eyes to see that the ground was rushing up towards me. I was shrinking! As I shrunk, my legs also grew smaller and thinner and my hands shrivelled, arms drawing back into my body. I opened my mouth, "What the hec-kwarrrgh!" I was cut off as a beak grew from my mouth, lips suddenly jutting out and turning hard and yellow. My skin itched furiously as patterns appeared on it and then raised up, turning into real feathers. My legs, now in miniature, grew yellow and my toes suddenly curled and hardened, talons sprouting from the end of them. My arms had stopped shrinking back into my body and flattened out into pancake-like appendages, the flatness interrupted by more feathers sprouting. My eyes, which had slowly been growing yellow, finished changing into that of a bird's and my hair, which had been sucked back into my head, was replaced with white feathers and after my tail appeared, I finished changing. There was a brief minute of wonder-
I was on the ground. I wasn't after prey. Why was I on the ground? I spread my wings and struggled to take off. I rose into the sky, analysing the area. Trees, no water. Not the best conditions. But here there would be small mammals. Rabbits, muskrats. I circled up above on the thermals, searching for prey. I was not happy with the human down there. I did not want to go near him. But prey might be nearby. I circled slowly, waiting for the human to leave.
