this is the correct answer.

But not the fun one, and in a way, it is incorrect too. The question was what prevented them in the timeline of the story? Within the story, if your going to play the game and not be a literal moron, the attacks should have happened and didn't, thus something changed. Within the context of the topic, the fact that it was published before the attacks occurred is completely irrelevant.

I'd like to think that maybe the yeerks had a small base wherever Ossama bin laden was and he was made a controller. He was still a terrorist before that, but after he was freed, maybe he decided that enough was enough? Maybe he was touched in a personal way and called off the whole operation, choosing to focus his hate on aliens?
Meh.

Within the context of the story? The terrorists re-worked their plan and tried to attack something else, seeing the new Aliens as the TRUE threat to attack.

They probably scrapped the whole thing with the change in climate and worked on some kind of assault on the Andalite/Human installations or something.

the series takes place in more or less real time does it not?  so by sep 11, we had just finished a full scale war again an alien menace.  it really would have brought the nations together.

or i could throw them into a bigger conflict. major events make things swing in major ways, either one way or the other. so yes, it could've brought peace, but the other side of the spectrum would be major fighting over the new technology and blaming which country had more people on the yeerks side making the war worse.

Agreed.

Lets face it, it's in human nature to fight each other for the stupidest reasons.

that would have happened after the war was over.  human cooperation scales to the threat.  if something threatens a group people for whatever reason, they band together against the threat.  if an option is made to sacrifice a subset of the group, the larget subset may turn against them but that is due to a shrinking scale.  so yes, some humans could have switched sides to the yeerks and helped them voluntarily, but the human-yeerk conflict would overshadow any human-human conflict while it was going on.

maybe. people may think tht they'd act all high and mighty, but u never know until ur in the crisis moment. there are always enough chapmans(from andalite chronicles) and lorens in this world tht it could go either way. war will bring out the best in some but the absolute worst in others. there's enough of both is society tht the only depending factor would be which one is in charge of which country.
