The only thing I remember about the Civil War is that vampires were buying slaves for food and Abraham Lincoln was dead set against it. He became a prominent slayer of vampires during his run as President.

Then I believe there was a former soldier who was working for President Grant. He and a US Martial thwarted a plot to disban the United States after a terrorist attempted to use a hydraulic spider to overthrow the government.

That's really all I remember from history. It might be wrong though.

Replace hydraulic spider with irradiated crayfish and you've got it.
