The civil war journal
« on: July 13, 2011, 10:53:40 PM »
In one of the animorphs books Jake finds his old great great something grandfathers old civil war journal. Im frankly confused on what side the writer was on. What I'm saying is that it was heavilly implied that he was from the south with him saying that escepting african americans would be against what they were fighting for. What really confuses me is why the heck the blacks wanted to fight in the first place. It makes no sense to me.

1. i don't really remember that book and so i don't remember which side his ancestor was on
2. do you mean the blacks on the north's side or the south's side?

uh, i think some of them actually joined so that they could try to escape. others that weren't willing to try to escape may have been told that they would be granted freedom if they fought in place of their masters.

It was a great-great uncle. I think he fought on the north, because he referred to General Forrest--who we know from Forrest Gump to have been the founder of the KKK-- as the enemy. And I think the part about the uncle not wanting to use black soldiers had more to do with the town's people they were defending--who were just starting to get used to anti-slavery.

Yea, man, you're gonna have to start typing forwards. It's kind of difficult for me to read what you're writing otherwise.

Issaiah Fitzhenry fought on the northside. Forrest was a racist who wanted to keep slaves. Jacob was an african-american who wanted to fight for his people, only to be refused by Issaiah because it went against what they were fighting for--which was FREEDOM for black slaves. The town Issaiah and his men were defending in the civil war was still trying to get used to the latest social scene--freedom of previously owned black slaves-- and were against nthe use of those men in battle (as seen when Issiah and his men were over that one townsman's house for Christmas dinner.

Have you read the Resistance? If so, I suggest re-reading it. Maybe that will help.

     Glad I could help.

Though, I'm not an expert--or even know much about--on the Amercian Civil War. So, if I got something wrong, you may want to ask someone who does know what they're talking about.

The only thing I remember about the Civil War is that vampires were buying slaves for food and Abraham Lincoln was dead set against it. He became a prominent slayer of vampires during his run as President.

Then I believe there was a former soldier who was working for President Grant. He and a US Martial thwarted a plot to disban the United States after a terrorist attempted to use a hydraulic spider to overthrow the government.

That's really all I remember from history. It might be wrong though.
