"It's hard to say who might have hired Salem, if anyone." Temrash said. "We did see Keshin briefly, even though it seems she was a different one. Not that our kind isn't good at deception. There have been new people coming in that we don't know. But hey, I have repairmen that could help you fix the problems with your ship. First, however, we need to have a nice talk about your present situation. About Terenia, and why you trust her so much that you'd let her use Mike and have access to everything he knows. You've been really closed off, but I still want some answers. You said she doesn't need monitoring, but is she really not going to be monitored once she makes it into the base?"

"She said she left Efaen willingly, but I have no reason to believe she wouldn't try something to get back into her head. Has she said anything to you about Efaen recently?"

Jagill heard Dara in the other room. "We in here, Dara and Kavlin." He said from the medbay. He unlocked the door for them, but stayed within arms reach of Corliss.

<<Yes, he should be alright here by himself. I may be able to set up a connection between the computer and my communicator so it can inform me of any irregularities while Ossanlin sleeps.>> He began to leave the room so they could open the outer hatch and leave the ship.

<<I find it useful to pay attention to the small things. It helps me know if something is wrong so I can avoid pain.>> Derrel said.

<<How very self-aware of you,>> Illim snorts in amusement as he waits for Salem's response. <<I suppose that's good, though. As you're probably gathering... I've always been a bit on the reckless side.>>

"That is unsettling," Serid remarks, eyebrows raising. "I have not heard of other Andalites being... subsumed into it."

Salem turned to Illim and raised his eyebrows slightly. The guy was quiet- up until now, Salem hadn't really heard him speak. Salem figured he was probably affiliated with the Rebellion somehow, but whether he was just Corliss' lackey or someone more important, Salem didn't know.

"I've just met him since arriving at this bar," Salem said. "He's less crazy and paranoid than your friend Corliss, and I need a Yeerk's help." He tilted his head, then shrugged slightly and stuck out his hand with a smile, "I didn't catch your name. I'm Salem, in case you hadn't picked that up already."

Al laughed as he walked beside Jasper. "Yeah, the interior display is one of the more... noticeable features of that ship. Salem and I designed that thing custom. It's got its share of fun little tricks."

He veered to the side a bit, heading towards Salem and Illim, and called out, "Oy, Salem! The heck are you doing?"

"I don't owe you any answers," Corliss snaps, irritated.  "I'm here to ask you the questions, Temrash.  I trust Terenia, and I honestly don't trust you as far as I can throw you." His eyes narrow.  "Which, incidentally, is pretty far, at the bloody moment."

He glances back at Jagill, who is distracted with someone he didn't know in the other room.

"Let me spell it out for you, if you still don't get it," Corliss says acridly.  "I reckon you got all sore about being left out of the loop, and started hacking into my system--or hired Salem to do it for you.  Either that or you really do work for the Empire, in which case I have every right to kill you here and now."

Efaen ensures that Ossanlin is secure before following Claxter to the bridge of the Andalite yacht.

<This ship has quite an excellent design,> she comments admiringly. She approaches the main computer array and inspects them curiously. <Our Prince must be quite well-respected among the Electorate to warrant such a ship in addition to that which he captains.>

Temrash laughed when Corliss accused him of working for the Empire. "You fool. You half baked fool. I had an Andalite Captain in my ship earlier that was totally incapacitated. If I worked for the Empire, I'd be gone, and so would Ossanlin. Dapsen, I had two of them, and I know where your old base used to be and can get a good estimate of the distance between the old one and where the new one is. You dare accuse me of being the enemy when you associate with someone who has been trying to get away from us and back to the Empire until just recently?"

"You are an imbecile, and if you expect to leave this room in one piece, I wouldn't threaten me. I should just have a memory dump put on you. You know too much about me to obviously not be my ally, and perhaps I can get some other answers. Why would I need to hack your ship? For spite? You take me for being petty, or a loyalist? Unless you have some hard evidence that someone hired Salem in the first place, you shouldn't come here and threaten me. But since you're here, I'll take my memories back. Unless you want to start acting civilized and stop avoiding my questions."

"There's no bleeding way you could project the new base's location from our old one!" Corliss laughs incredulously.  "Even if you don't work for the Empire, Temrash, you clearly have a vested interest in finding out information that might not pertain to you.  Did you ever once think that people might not want to share everything they know with you just because you wave the sympathetic Imperial card?"

He shakes his head. "The only ****ing evidence I have is that Salem hacked my ship, because I caught him doing it.  Now he claims he had no involvement in a second hack, which I find exceedingly difficult to believe.  Either he was acting on his own, or someone hired him.  Who else around here has expressed an interest in accessing rebel information, but has been denied that?" He feigns thoughtfulness. "Hmm, let me think, it's really quite difficult..."

"I will admit that I would be suspect, if Salem was even working for someone. Since you have no evidence that he is, then I have no reason to defend myself. I'm just trying to understand your facination with Terenia. All I want is for her to be watched, and I have no reason to believe she wouldn't be watched at the base, so I have no idea why you don't want her to be watched here. I once agreed to ally with you, and gave you everything I know. Why do you not give me a little of the same thing? I trusted you. Why don't you trust me?"

"Illim," the Yeerk by that name responds to Salem, taking a step forward to shake his proffered hand. "Crazy and paranoid, huh? Paranoid, sure; he needs it for survival. Crazy... doubtful," Illim gives his uninvited opinion.

He leans back on his heels and folds his arms. "So, Salem. What's your part in all this?"

"Because not trusting people is what has kept me alive for the last twenty Generations," Corliss snarls.  "I only trust those whom I judge to be trustworthy.  I've seen Terenia's memories, my brother's reported on them, and Terenia's been in my host's head.  If anything that makes me trust her more, knowing her thoughts and memories.  You don't have to concern yourself about a lost human girl who happens to have the body of one of our people.  If anything I'd be more concerned about Efaen, who is roaming free and causing who knows what kind of trouble?"

"And what has Efaen done, exactly? She ran around with Claxter for a while. Now she's free again, and she's...running around with Claxter again. when I let her out of my ship she went into the forest to rest. Terenia convinced a Hork-Bajir friend of mine to take her to Efaen, and she disobeyed my orders to hang back so she could knock Efaen out and reinfest her. Efaen has done nothing but try to get away from Terenia since she's been here, as far as I can tell. She hates Yeerks. Oh big surprise! What a shock? never saw that coming! What a crisis we have! However she obviously has something that Terenia does not seem to posses: self control. If anything, she has more than I do."

"So tell me why you don't trust me. What exactly did I do wrong in your eyes? Is it because I didn't put enough faith in you? Kind of hard when you're so closed off. D most of the people you know just take your word for it? Or was I supposed a subordinate to you? Not ask questions. Just take orders."

Claxter opened the outer hatch, and began walking down. He nticed Theta talking to Ossanlin's Human friend. <We are back. Prince Ossanlin should be fine.>

Salem turned to look when Al called out to him. Al and Jasper were walking his way from the ship. Rather than answer, Salem simply waved in greeting before turning back to Illim.

He shook his head slightly, "I know Corliss isn't genuinely crazy. I'm just frustrated at the moment... I think more with myself than with him. I'd like to try to come to an agreement with your Rebellion, but Corliss is really caught up in the fact that I messed with his ship's computer system. And now he's got these malfunctions going on and he's tying them with my actions. I guess my part in this is just that I have extraordinarily poor timing when it comes to doing extraordinarily dumb things."

He looked Derrel up and down. Illim did sound like a Yeerkish name...

"I don't suppose there's any chance you'd be willing to help me out? As I said, I need a Yeerk's assistance. I'd be willing to pay for the information I need, of course."

Dara moved into the room. "I can vouch for Terenia's instability." He didn't like her anymore than Efaen did. "Crazy!" He muttered under his breath.

Temrash was trying to think of some way to get Corliss off his case about the hacking. He wished Salem had been more discreet, but the fact that Corliss wasn't sure Salem was working for anyone could give Temrash a chance. He just needed someone to take the hit for him, and have it make more sense than Temrash. He would need to talk to Salem again without being seen, or have someone else do it for him.

Mar lays back in the chair, exhausted. He is aware that Elayne is having a great deal of trouble, but there is not a lot the mortal Highest can do for her. He can only hope that the Great Sickness eventually passes over his body and he can return to his...peace. Could he really call it that? He always feels so...different in the rare times it comes over him. Irritating that only on his deathbed can he get back what he once was for a moment.

Mar rolls his eyes. "Damn...Ossanlin. I don't like going through this madness. Confuses me. War-Prince should stop falling over dead....Elayne. Are we..."

Mar pushes himself forward to get a better look at where they're going. He winces and immediately regrets doing that. Idiot. Stupid, stupid Mar. "...the Bar? What can we possibly get there, sweet pet?"
