depends on so many things:
What I know about the Yeerks
What they no about me
Measures going on against them overall
How annoying the sibling has been lately

I'd like to say of course I'd doing anything to save em but that's a big risk, your own life and who knows how many others, big call, so most likely I'd honestly try to wait it out till things got desperate
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

Aw man if one of my sisters or parents was a controller, I'd start crying...

lol I'd probably try and do something, but not if it means I could risk my life and the rest of my family's lifes..

my sister's too young to be of any use to the Yeerks but my brother on the other hand, if he was a controller, I'd find a place where no one could find me(probably my bedroom when no one's home) and start freaking out and crying, but if I were an Animorph, I'd go into my battle morph keep locked up somewhere for three days and never let him see me in my human form unti I know the Yeerk is dead(He cnt know who I am until it's over cuz the plan might not work)

I'm the oldest in the family. My brother is turns 19 end of the month and my sister is 15. If I had any knowledge of the Yeerks I would most certainly try to free them or do something. My siblings and I are pretty close.

If I didn't know anything I'd probably just wonder what was so great about this Sharing group. Then again, I probably wouldn't think anything of it. My brother was in Boy Scouts, they both take fencing and they're in Venture Crew.

I'm at school in a different state 8 months out of the year so I obviously wouldn't notice much then. But when I'm home for the summer I would certainly notice when my sister would rather go to a Sharing meeting then watch a movie or go on a walk (we love to go on walks together).

Newbie here (haven't posted on a forum since the Turquoise City one, a Pokemon Forum).

Anyway, to the business at hand.  If it were my elder sister, I'd go to hell and back to save her (especially if my seven-year-old neice was also taken).  However, if my younger sister (or my biological father for that matter) were Controllers, I probably wouldn't care all that much.  I know it's heartless, it might even be ruthless, but to describe them, I will use an Avatar reference -- my younger sister is as manipulative as Azula and my father is as indifferent to me as Ozai is to Zuko.

Again, I'm new, and I think I'll be hanging around for a while.

For the most part, I get along well with my biological family. However, when I consider my step dad, I start to see where you're coming from. Welcome to the forum by the way, feel free to introduce yourself in the Introductions board.

Hypothetical conversation between the younger sibling, and older who is thought to be (but isn't actually) a Controller:

Younger sibling (holding onto the older siblings shoulders, practically talking through him/her): ARE YOU STILL IN THERE?
Older sibling: Y-yeaaaahhh?!? *WTF*
YS: DON'T WORRY! I'LL FIND A WAY TO SAVE YOU!
OS: .................wh at?!?
YS: DON'T GIVE UP ON ME! I LOVE YOU!
OS: hokay, time to cut down on the sugars, kiddo.

Seriously, though. I think you can never tell what you'd do until you're actually in that situation. There are too many factors involved...
Is he/she voluntary?
How far along into the invasion is it?
Is there a chance that killing the Yeerk would actually be the safest route to take?
etc.
Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

Assuming I knew about Yeerks, I would do everything I could to keep my sibling safe with a yeerk in his/her head. Keeping an enemy close keeps me posted on basic yeerk activity. If I freed him/her, it would endanger me and the rest of my family, but there are definite benefits on following a known controller.
Until then we fight.

i'd brainstorm different ways to save him while keeping me and my family safe..i think it'd become an obsession.
"I always considered myself a loner. I mean, not like a poor-me, Byron-esque, I-should-have-broughta-swimming-buddy loner. I mean the sort of person who doesn’t feel too upset about the prospect of a weekend spent seeing no one, and reading good books on the couch. It wasn’t like I was a people hater or anything. I enjoyed activities and the company of friends. But they were a side dish. I always thought I would also be happy without them."

i think it'd become an obsession.

It'd be hard not to -- that is, if it was someone that you really cared about.

Yea, but it wouldn't be smart to free them. Look what happened after Jara Hamee and Ket Halpak escaped. The Yeerk leaders dont become leaders through kindness.

Whoa! This is a tough topic, too! One us Animorphs fans can't help but wonder when falling upon.
I think my teenage-self would been totally reckless, genuinely trying to be smart and brave inspite of his outrage, but ultimately naive and not knowing what he was in for, totally. As a result he WOULD most likely have ended up killed or worse... caught. For I WOULD HAVE NEVER been able to live with the knowledge of my bro or my sis or ANYONE close to me being ONE OF THEM. Not if I COULD do something about it.
I would have done SOMETHING...

Today, I don't have the same energy and have more at stake. I would suppress my negative emotions and keep them in check a lot better than in those days. I would go about a lot more subtly and never make a move without any certainty. It would take time and patience acquiring as much info as I could, but always meticulously devising and re-devising a plan that would give me circumstances to have 3 days by myself with that Yeerk, starving that Yeerk out of his or her head. I would proceed pushing to relocate my family and I elsewhere remote overseas or something.

Having read the entire series, I know that a lot more falls into the shades of gray though. I can't picture them being voluntary, but you know...
Definitely would not let them eat ANY sort of oatmeal. Don't care if it's only the instant maple and ginger type. Better safe than sorry.
And I would push it even further, by making friends with some Andalite that is tripping the Earth and talk him into taking me to the Yeerk Homeworld and let me acquire a Yeerkbane Vanarx, come back and eat the bloody thing straight from their head. PS: Not that I would know one exists.

Awesome topic!

How do you know if that doesn't do some long-term internal damage to the host?  I don't think the long-term effects on the host is mentioned in the books (please correct me if I wrong -- I've been making a lot of errors lately).

I don't think it does, but I doubt the Vanarx would normally care about a host. I doubt evolution gave them the means to take the Yeerk but save the host. The eating process would probably result in chunks of brain being taken out and eaten as well as the Yeerk.
