Comparing Animorphs to Other Series
« on: February 08, 2011, 06:17:04 PM »
Has anyone else who's read other book series or tv shows compared Animorphs to it, or thought what it'd be like if the two MET?

Example... I like to think of what would happen if Harry Potter and Animorphs met. The magical world sees Muggle technology as inferior; even the "good guys" view it with at best patronizing curiosity, believing themselves to be better when actually we're much cleverer since we can survive without magic. Now picture spaceships with the power to blow apart planets, the morphing power, and time travel! That's a thousand times more powerful than puny Earth tech.

Or DBZ and Animorphs. Hell, all the Z fighters would have to do is wade through enemy attack and tie up all the Controllers. They have the power to resist Dracon blasts and cannot be hurt even by Hork-Bajir. With Controllers tied up, the Yeerks inside would die of Kandrona starvation, the former Controllers would be freed, and the battle would be over within the space of a few DAYS. Now that's something.

Anyway... anyone else do this?

A friend of mine and I did a role playing bit where we, "As morph capable humans" were on a mission to rescue kidnapped Hogwarts students. (I was also an Immortal ala Highlander, but I won't get into that) In our variation, the magic of the Wizarding world interefered with the morphing technology in that it was painful to morph.

I think the Babylon 5 or the Star Trek universes would be interesting playgrounds for the Animorphs universe. Firefly is another one.

Or maybe Star Wars! Whoa, imagine the Jedi vs the Yeerks! I don't think the Yeerks could use the Force if they infested a Force-user, because they couldn't tap into the midi-chlorians. Or imagine the Sith allying with the Yeerks! Wow, the possibilities are endless.

I also like to imagine a Terminator/Animorphs crossover. And certain anime, like Pokemon, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Yu Yu Hakusho.

I have a feeling the Yeerks would have an extremely difficult time infesting a Force capable user. Maybe a very young Padawan, or a Force sensitive child who hasn't been identified by the council (depending on which era the story takes place in. Bost Jedi and it might be easier.) but someone with the skill and longevity of Master Yoda or Obi-Wan would be like a slug trying to pilot a stealth bomber from the ****pit.

Terminator is doable, with some reimagining of the Skynet. Maybe if Skynet was the Yeerks misguided attempt at subjugating the human race and it backfired on both species. Or the human governments learn of the Yeerk invasion and try to retrofit their own weapons systems with Yeerk/Andalite technology. But with no clue how to use it, the machines basically turn on both humans and Yeerks.

Shows like Pokemon and Beyblade become trickier though. Maybe Yu-Gi-Oh. Digimon possibly.

Yeah, definitely. I am working on my very own Terminator crossover, you know. I'd also really love to see a Transformers crossover. Huge, hulking robots that can transform into ANY vehicle. I'd specifically like to see the Yeerks try to fight Unicron. Or um, uh, I forgot what Megatron's new form was for a while. Started with a G. Anyway, I can see the Animorphs totally striking up an alliance with the Autobots, maybe introducing them to the Chee, and then trying to divide and conquer the Decepticons who are fighting the Yeerks in addition to the Autobots, and the Yeerks in addition to fighting the "Andalite bandits."

I've tried to crossover Animorphs with... let's see...

Dragonball Z/GT
Beast Wars
Doctor Who
Harry Potter
Resident Evil 2
Nyeusigrube

and my own original series, The White World Chronicles.

And possibly more that I can't quite remember off the top of my head.

And Zakryn, for Megatron's other form, you're probably thinking Galvatron?

That's the one! It's been a while since I read it, so I couldn't remember it right off hand.

The best way for a crossover to work is to look for the common denominator.

For example: Highlander can be convincingly crossed over with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, because both series involve a group of people called the Watchers. The Watchers Societies in both shows have similar MO's and functions and it's easier to beleive that the Immortals of Highlander fit into the supernatural theme of Buffy.

An interesting crossover to me would be Stargate and Animorphs. The Goauld have many similarities to the Yeerks. And since we know there is another breed of creature similar to the Yeerks, namely the Iskoort, it wouldnt' be such a stretch to believe that the Goauld are a superior species of Yeerk. Or, replace the Yeerks altogether with the Goauld and see what happens.

I'd love to see a mix of Animorphs and Transformers, they both have the ability to uhh "change". Imagine that in a Michael Bay movie? The effects budget would prolly be about the cost of a small country haha.
I think that Jake and Optimus Prime would def. make a good combat team. I don't think that Megatron and Visser Three would be able to deal with each other tho.  Considiring that the Decepticons already consider "fleshlings" as a nasty thing, imagine what they'd think of a Yeerk haha.

I liked a few of what's on FF.net. There were a couple cool Roswell crossovers, and Maximum Ride is a good one to cross with Tobias.

I had a rough outline crossing Animorphs with a book called Dusk, which is about a girl with hawk DNA, but it got lost when my laptop died. I'd have to rewrite it.

I also want to cross it with Virals, the Kathy Reichs book.  The thought-speech in both would make it easy for one group to accidentally overhear the other maybe.

I've thought about crossing it with another scifi show I loved, Tracker. Visser 3 vs Zin would be a cool fight to see. Plus, that show involved aliens taking over humans, so a yeerk trying to infest one of their races would be interesting. (same thing with SG-1 but I never watched it.)

I had an idea for a Bones crossover too, but haven't watched it much this season. However, someone did do a CSI cross I loved.

Also like the Warriors thing, I've thought of that. Or the other Erin Hunter series, Seekers, becuase it has a bear that shapeshifts into various animals and a human morph.

Merlin would be fun if the Time Matrix allowed some back-traveling. 'Cept there'd be no yeerks back then.

How about Animorphs and V? Can you imagine a Yeerk trying to infest someone only to find out they're a Visitor?

Along similar lines, there's a recent kids' book called Stuck on Earth that is so yeerk-like...slug-like alien coming to earth to take over a teenager's body, although this time it's to see if humanity's worth saving. I envisioned the alien infesting someone who already had a yeerk...

I can't do a Buffy cross...someone did, with Cassie as a slayer, but the trouble is, Buffy's mentioned as a fiction world. There'd have to be some portal stuff. Although Roswell was mentioned too as a fiction world...

Love the HL idea, btw...immortal controllers? Yikes. ALthough a vamp fandom like Moonlight or Forever Knight could be even scarier.

I could go on awhile, but I think this is it. I also got hooked on a cartoon called Dino Squad because of the shapeshifting aspect and would have loved to have crossed those two. Our group would be jealous of the dino morphs for sure.

I have the same problem... since Terminator was already mentioned in the series! Does anyone know how to rectify this?

Or better yet, the Visitors being known enemies of the Yeerks because the Yeerks happen to be quite tasty...

I once did a Stargate SG-1 fic where they had encountered vampire like creatures who were the off spring of one of Osirus' experiments.
