Which Animorph ended up being the most disappointing?
« on: August 03, 2008, 10:52:46 AM »
As it says above, who disappointed most?

Cassie who bailed on them in the end?

Jake for his ruthlessness, questionable calls, and

Rachel for dying (or whatever other reason)?

Tobias for going into depression?

Marco for...being Marco?

Ax for going back to the Andalites and getting himself caught?

Or any other reasons you can possibly think of.  I'd be interested to hear what the concensus is.

For me: it's a tie between Jake and Cassie

Cassie for not going with them at the end.  They should've all gone out together.

I agree that Cassie should have been with them, I guess KA wanted at least one of the Animorphs to survive. I don't see how it's Cassie's fault though, as Jake was the one who forced her to stay behind.

Cassie. I am always dissapointed by pacifism where ones friends and family are concerned, though Ill admit I  wasnt proud of Jake's decision or Tobias' unpreparedness for loss in war.

I always thought Marco was the best because he seemed able to walk that fine balance beam, ethics or expedience, ruthlesness or compassion, courage or discretion, humor and tragedy, and he could live with himself after a hard days fight.

Probably Tobias for being too hung up on Rachel. Though I also believe Cassie and Marco should have done something for him, like they did Jake. It seems odd they would try to help Jake, but not Tobias.

I'm disappointed in Cassie for betraying Jake, though the others didn't seem to see it as much of a betrayal besides Jake and maybe Ax.

I'm impressed with Marco. Applegate did good by him.

Jake. He should've let cassie go with them at the end. if he did that, I'd be completely happy with the series (well except for the alternamorphs).

All great points.  Marco definitely was the most well adjusted of all the Animorphs.

It's not really that surprising.  Tobias was always the group's outcast (for a variety of reasons).  The only people he ever really connected with were Rachel (dead) and Ax (gone).

But it is surprising that bleeding-heart Cassie forgot about him...

Tobias's and Jake annoyed me for all these depressing isolation stuff.
Ax, Marco come out well off, Cassie, does what's good for Cassie, Jake and Tobias; mope. Not a fitting end for either in my book

That wasn't Cassie's fault. she wanted to go but Jake made her stay. I was dissapointed in Tobias and Jake for basically becoming the being little crybaby emos when the war was over. It doesn't really suprise me about tobias since all his books are about him feeling sorry for himself and making the readers feel sorry for him but Jake's little depression stage suprised the hell out of me. What happened to the fearless leader who could overcome anything? he shouldn't have just gotten all depressed over two casualties like he's said/implied many times, This is war! I could understand him acting like that if he were 13(the age he was when it all started) but at the end he was like 20 and he was still looking back on something tht happened when he was 16

True, but she should have been there.  She should have insisted (as part of the team).  It's not like Jake could control her.  She was an adult by that time.

It just seemed like she was too willing to bail on the rest of them.  Pretty damn cowardly in my opinion.

And of Jake or Tobias, Tobias had more cause to be depressed.  He lost pretty much everyone (with Ax going back to the Andalites).  Jake, on the other hand, was upset over decisions he made that turned out exactly as planned.  His depression would make more sense if Rachel's (and others') death had been unexpected/accidental because of a clear bad call (though some of us would say his call was bad).

But Jake did bring up sum good points as to why she should stay

Yea but it just sucked how he was always pittied I think out of all the animorphs he should've gotten a happy ending tht way the book wouldn't have been as predictable as it was. Plus what was the point of him finding his mother? after tht book where she's introduced, she pretty much does nothing else to contribute to the story plus Tobias could've really used her when he lost both Rachel and Ax

All true.

I have no rational reason for wanting Cassie to have gone save that it felt wrong that they just left one behind.  No matter what reasons they gave, it felt entirely wrong!  After all they'd been through she should have been there no matter what.

It's a tie between Jake and Tobias, but I'm going to go with Tobias. Yeah, he lost everything. It sucks, he's heartbroken. How much would Rachel have liked for him to spend the rest of his life moping about it, though? I mean, she would have kicked his feathery butt (excuse the marco-ism). Also, he gave up on what he potentially could have had. Like his mother, who he finally found.

Jake... he made me sick at the end.
And after, it's Ax because he's been taken. Poor Ax! And we don't know what happens next >_<
