We ask that all newer players to the GESB limit themselves to one character at a time...it's listed on the rules page. That doesn't mean that you won't be able to have more than one character in the GESB in the future, but we would want you to have one at a time in the GESB itself for the time being. There are several reasons for this...for example:
Sometimes newer players find they don't have the time or desire to continue posting at the GESB...if they have several characters, losing all of those at once leaves many other players in limbo, so we need to know that you like the RP and are going to stick with it for a while before you bring in multiple chars.
This also helps to promote the meaningfulness of characters. Some newer players tend to change characters like they change their underwear. This doesn't work at the GESB. Since the GESB is based on character development, swapping multiple characters is detrimental not only to the player in question, but to other players as well. Some of us, like Myitt, Terenia, myself, and others, have had our main characters for over ten years. They're very deep and well-developed...we want other players to make the same efforts at creating a character with depth and value, because when we are forced to RP with other chars. that are meaningless, it lessens the reality of our own characters and that's not fair to us. We are also attempting to help those newer players to experience their own depth of character, because the RP is infinitely more significant and generally more enjoyable if a player cares about and nurtures the growth of his/her own character.
We're also trying to prevent character overflow. If everyone ran in with three characters, it would be very confusing and difficult to RP with efficiency and ease.
This also prevents same-player interaction. i.e. One player's characters talking exclusively with each other and not interacting with the bar or its environment. The place for conversations between two same-player created characters is in a personal fan-fic or work of fiction, not a cooperative Role-play environment.
These are a few of the reasons...there are a few more if you'd like me to list them. Either way this is not something you will have to worry about until the spin-off thread ends, and for all we know it may go on for a very long time. I simply wanted you guys to understand that you are still under the one-character-per-main-GESB-thread rule at the current time so that there are no misunderstandings if the situation does arise down the road.
