After the girls got in ((hope ya don't mind, Rad...)), Sean started the car and drove off down the highway, back to his apartment. "Good job guys," he said. He wanted to mention how they needed to come up with some kind of plan now that they had the morphs they'd needed, but he didn't want to make the logical suggestion that they try following Jo's family. No kid should ever have to deal with this... he said, unconsciously looking back at Jo in the rearview mirror. That was when he noticed the eighteen-wheeler speeding down the highway on his right-hand side doing at least ninety mph. "Whoa!" He swerved left to avoid the obviously drunken truck driver and narrowly missed a car in the next lane. After is was well past, he said with the slightest edge. "Well, that was exciting. Maybe not as exciting as the crocodile, but yeah."

"GEEZ! WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING, YOU IDIOT!!!!" Brian shouted, swerving left to avoid the trucker that kept crossing the centerstripe dividing the two directions of traffic. "Moron..." he muttered. Within a minute, he'd parked in the far back of the visitor parking lot at Ben Taub General Hospital, which was just across the street from the zoo. After a shudder of revulsion, he forced himself to morph fly again and buzzed through the fence. He was inside the zoo.

He quickly demorphed, and was suddenly tired because of it. He hadn't really noticed that before. Weird. He thought of calling out for the others, but didn't think that was smart, considering he wasn't supposed to be there. Brian found himself in a long narrow passage that led to an emergency exit. He walked along, and eventually found himself by the vulture habitat. He was really eager to go ahead and acquire the giant bird, but thought he should start with something else. It was in a circular habitat standing in the middle of the pathway. Oddly enough, it was already awake. He reasoned that the others had passed by it already.  He started to walk away... he then found a pile of clothes nearby, with keys next to them.He wasn't sure of what to make of the clothing... was it one of his friend's? Maybe, but why wouldn't they be wearing something skin-tight that they could morph with? It made him edgy, since he didn't know why the pile was there. But regardless, he had the keys. This was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. With the keys in his hand, and slight worry on his mind, he opened the vulture's cage and grabbed the bird, which didn't even try getting away. It must be too used to people, he figured. It grew still, even stiller than before while he acquired it. Brian felt a slight tingling in his spine from the excitement of essentially harvesting any animal's form that he wanted for himself. It had been so simple, he felt invigorated.

With a surge of confidence and a slight air of arrogance, Brian looked over his shoulder at the Timber Wolf habitat. With a smile of thrill and the feeling of what-am-I-doing-this-is-so-stupid, he hopped the fence. He walked in, not seeing anything. Maybe they were put indoors during the night? He figured this was the right answer and he started to walk quickly and confidently towards the back of the exhibit. There was a building there, and he hoped he had the right key. He heard a crunching sound to this right. His confidence was gone. "Oh shoot," he whispered. He heard another snapping twig. And then there was a sound that brought a shiver to Brian's spine.

 "HOWW-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!"

(((Don't mind at all)))

Olivia wanted to be there for Jo.  But knew that meant taking responsibility for her like a mother.  How could she do this?  She was only three years older that her.  She remembered all of the advice that her mother gave her on parenting if she ever became a mother.  But what prepared her most for this conflict was bootcamp but she hesitant to put Jo though that type of training.

((the allergic reaction? nice))

The guards heard the howl and got their tranquilizer guns out. They turned off their flashlights knowing that a light would startle the wolves and it was still some what light out. They whisper to each other then go to the wolf cage and see the wolf. They shoot a dart at it hoping it will hit.

Chad looked at Jo, and couldn't help but feel sorry for her. After all that'd happened...at least he still had somewhere to sleep. He looked at her and focused so he could talk to her only. <<Are you doing okay, Jo?>>

((Seriously?!? No one is going to react to the DRUNKEN TRUCK DRIVER?!?))

Brian turned to run out of the exhibit, back the way he came. Trapped! A large, snarling Eastern Timber Wolf was blocking his path. He pivoted left, and gasped as another wolf lunged at his chest. There was a tiny high-pitched sound, and the wolf landed, knocking Brian to the ground behind a bush. The claws left red streaks on his chest, but barely drew blood. Brian was panicked, but the wolf did not move. It laid still, breathing slowly. Brian could see the dart sticking out of its shoulder; the guards were here. Finally starting to breathe again himself, Brian stuck a trembling hand into the wolf's thick fur, and focused on the frighteningly intelligent creature that had just barely failed to decide his fate. The other wolves held back, confused. Maybe they recognized the dart and what had happened. Or maybe they weren't sure what to do about their fallen leader. After he felt he'd finished acquiring the beasts DNA, he quickly began to morph back into fly. I hate this morph! he grumbled in his head. There was a faint light out, from the moon, and from the lights on in the zoo, but it was dark and hard to see. Hopefully the guards wouldn't be able to see him, or at the least not identify him in the dark with the bush blocking their view. That was what he was counting on. The adrenaline seemed to disappear in an instant, for he felt exhausted once again from the morphing. He was more than halfway done, but it was going so slow....

The two guards went to the bush and turned on their flashlights. They saw a boy, part fly, but mostly human. They grab him and haul him to their station and notice he has their keys. Bob grabs the keys and asks: "Why are you trespassing and what are yiu doing?" Joe smiles knowing exactly what hes doing.

((Shorty, it's cool if you want to jump in there and find me, but as I said, I'm mostly fly (not mostly human) and you can't just decide to grab me and drag me to your station. I'm gonna play as if you just ran in there and found me, trapped in my shirt as the football sized fly-thing that I currently am. We were GM'ing earlier, but that was just to get through the slow parts of the zoo. There wasn't any conflict or anything then, but now is something that Brian would react to... not just follow along. Ah, I gotta finish the post later.. gotta go to work)))

((EDIT: Okay! I'm posting now. Finally....))

Oh crud. Brian thought. This wasn't good. He had promised Sean that he wouldn't start 'petting the animals' before he met up with them, and here he was, being watched by the two guards as he finished the change to insect. Had they seen him changing? Surely they hadn't seen him as human, and surely they hadn't identified him... it wasn't like he was on any Most Wanted lists. Yet. And what would they think about the pile of clothing sitting in the wolves' enclosure? He'd have to grab them later if he could.... Brian struggled to find his way through the many folds and rumples of his t-shirt, out from under the unconscious wolf, berating himself for not leaving his outer layers in the car. Finally, he found open air, and buzzed away. He made sure to stay clear of the guards faces, confident that they wouldn't find him. It was so hard seeing at this time of night, particularly with these funky eyes. How did flies get anywhere, he wondered. He ended up following a light, which ended up taking him to the nearest lamppost. It stuck out of the side of a building. He landed to demorph, and then realized how short of a distance he'd covered. He re-launched into the air, and after doing several corkscrews and loops (being a fly wasn't all bad...) he crawled into the building through a gap in the weather stripping around a window. It smelled lovely in here, at least to the fly's mind.

The drive was rather uneventful, though that definitely wasn't a bad thing. Everyone seemed rather withdrawn withing their own thoughts ((y'know, since they IGNORED THEIR NEAR DEATHS!  ::) )) Sean parked in front of his apartment building, and opened the door for the two ladies and two birds. His neighbor from the floor below his looked at them from across the street where he was standing. He was just standing there. Mr. Cox was just a couple french fries short of a Happy Meal, one might say. Sean waved and smiled at him, not caring to come up with a lie to cover his guests. He climbed the flight of stairs quickly in front of the others to unlock the door and went straight to the balcony, which he also opened. He then went into the second bedroom, and started moving a large stack of boxes into his room so he could get to the linens in the closet behind them.

Jo noticed that on one else was looking at her for a response.  She nodded her head slowly.  She wished that she could say more but would not want to seem week in front of the others.

<You will excuse me,> Chad said, as he flew out of the car. The air was a dead weight, and he had to keep on flapping. Entering the house and maneuvering in it was hard enough. He knew very well that there were clothes of his own stored inside the spare bedroom, so he slowly got upstairs and into the room. Sean was busy in the other bedroom moving something. He couldn't figure out for the life of him to close the door, so he merely went behind it. Concentrating on the image of himself, he suddenly felt the changes. The first thing that happened was that all his feathers vanished, leaving him a mostly bald bird. Chad choked, inwardly. He wanted to scream, but managed not to. His head began to change suddenly, and his eyesight dimmed, his hearing went down, and his beak softened and withered back to two lips. By now, he really wanted to scream, but he still kept quiet. His talons became toes. His hair regrew. His legs and arms elongated back to their normal size. The hawk became a human. Shivering, Chad looked for his clothes in the chest of drawers and put them on. Done with that, he went back to everyone else.

Jo looked around the place she would be staying.  It was clean and warm and had anything that a good house should have.  But her father was not their and she could not hear the cows mooing or smell the fresh smells if the barn.  How could this ever be home?

It was a white walled room. It smelled like the city's animal shelter, not that that was a surprise. Brian realized he was in one of the habitat's overnight cages. Some of the animals came in during the night. Apparently, the wolves did not. It must have been since it was a warm night. Brian was tempted to look out the window for the guards, but he didn't want them to spot him, just in case. He turned around at the sound of motion.

It was a bear. A really, really big bear. It had a dark, chocolate-colored fur coat, and was about five feet tall on all fours. He must have woken it up, even as quite as he'd been. Or maybe it had smelled him. Either way, he froze as the thousand pound bear stretched and yawned. It didn't seem too concerned. It definitely wasn't angry or startled. It must have been used to the zookeepers, too, like the Turkey Vulture had been. What was he supposed to do? It stepped towards him, and as it moved, he noticed another one right behind it. He hoped with all his heart that there wasn't a cub. He knew he'd be dead in a heartbeat if so, and he was pretty sure morphing required you to be alive. The bear sniffed at him, and Brian was unsure what to do. It reached it's nose out and touched his hand. Brian jumped back and inhaled sharply. The bear huffed at him, and the bear behind rose to its feet as well. He wasn't sure if it was a sign of aggression or what. The giant animal - the world's largest land predator, he recalled with an internal groan - stuck his wet nose to the back of his hand again, sniffing loudly. He was shaking slightly. Brian realized that he liked these animals much better from the other side of the fence. It was already touching him, so he began to acquire it. The bear wobbled, as if it was a little dizzy. The other bear made a noise, then yawned. He wanted out of there so badly. As he finished acquiring, he looked around him. He needed a plan before the trance wore off.

The guards noticed the clothes and the keys. Bob picked them up and went to the security office and threw the clothes in and relocked the door. Then they continued looking for Brian. They did a thourough ((awful spelling)) search of the rest of zoo that they didn't look through. They then searched the buildings. Joe searched the bathrooms while Bob went to the clinic. He opened the door and saw Brain and the bear. Bob pulled out his gun, not the tranquilizer, but a .45. He radioed in to Joe.

The second intruder on the bears' pleasant evening was too much for the giant furballs to handle. And perhaps the gun looked too familiar to the bear... they weren't exactly fans of the tranquilizers. The second bear roared as only a bear can, and ran right at the guard. Nearly half a ton of determined claw and tooth barreled down on top of him. The momentum alone should knock him off his feet, if not knock him out cold. Then the bear would take care of the rest. Brian was horrified by the charging bear, even if it was headed the other way. He hesitated. The first bear, who was just coming out of the trance, turned its attention to the man with the gun. Brian took the opportunity to run. Out of some dumb luck, or perhaps it was bloodrage on the bear's part, neither creature took notice of him as he fled. He covered his head, semi-consciously fearing the sure-to-be-fired bullets to go astray, or even still be aimed at him. Brian dove around a corner, curled into a ball with his head tucked in tight, and wearily began the morph back to fly. He wanted to cry. The exhaustion... the terror... the dread....

"Well, let's hit the hay." Sean said. He didn't want to try addressing the issue of Jo's family tonight. The timing was all wrong, and he was too tired to really say anything of value. Not that he knew just what to say..... Sean managed to get the extra bedsheets and blankets from the closet, and set them on the bedside table. He wished everyone a goodnight, reminded Chad to lock the door behind him when he left, and headed into his own room. He felt bad not offering this one to the girls. It was slightly larger, and had its own bathroom. But it was so messy.... He'd have to clean it up tomorrow, so they could have it then. Sean realized that he was supposed to go to work on Monday. Where had his Saturday gone? He'd spent the whole day preparing to save the world. Suddenly, the blueprints for that hospital in Oklahoma didn't seem that important.

Jo went to the fridge to get a cup of warm milk before bed.  Two percent, she thought.  I don't think I can drink this low fat dish water.

Sandresh had gone through the before bed beauty rituals for her host and climbed in to bed.  She pondered over how miserable dinner was with planning for tomorrow's search being the only topic of conversation.  Jo and Laurence were not there to find something funny to laugh at or even thank her for the good food.  I'll adjust, she thought.  It is just a lot of changes thrown at me at once.
<<Forgive me for bringing this up,>> Miriam said.  <<But you loved dinner with the family.  I had to remind you a few times that you are a Yeerk and that this is my family.  You wish they were your own.>>

Chad felt like saying he didn't want to go to sleep--which was true, he was still keyed up--but instead, he got a snack and went into bed, excited about what had happened that day. It was hard to believe it, but it was true. After several minutes, he finally drifted off.
