Ignoring the "special" covers.
Favorites:

Loved the color schemes, the placement of the morphs, and the background skies, as well as the models and their poses. I'm kinda leaning towards 45 being the best...it had such a significant feel to it, what with the logo change, the ant morph, the sky, the title and tagline, Marco's expression. The annoying TV logo is still there, though.

Least Favorites:

I don't really particularly dislike 53's cover, but I was a little disappointed with it. Jake's pose and the placement of the snake morph seem kinda bland, and that purple color scheme had just been used for book 50. The background is awesome, though.

my least favourite:
MM#3. I didn't really like how the animorphs looked in that. and the background doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Cassie's pose on that is so stupid, and Rachel's expression doesn't look right...

I always hated that one because Jake looked like a girl. xD

Cassie's pose does look pretty odd, doesn't it? It's the only one that stands out incorrectly. There are two things that I can't help but thinking:

Whether Jake is cupping Cassie's bum, or that Cassie is sitting on Jake's hand altogether. There's also the fact that Cassie's positioning infront of Ax reminds of "Ax the Prostitute".

Either way, odd.

Yeah, I never liked that image of Tobias, it's not at all how I visualize him. The rest of them look okay, though.

I think Back to Before and the inside image of The Ellimist Chronicles were the best depictions of the Animorphs. The Andalite Chronicles had another good group shot. As much as I like the art for The Beginning, Rachel's picture on the inside image isn't how I image her. Still like the image, though.

I think my favorite is probably the Hork-Bajir Chronicles, that was a nice layout of art, especially the back cover ^^

...and you know what, even though it's a big Rolling Stones Hot Rocks rip off, I kinda liked the cover of 54...oh come on, the inside was cool...  :P

I dunno what my least favorites are...maybe the Yeerk one, #29, because they're bright green and have flippers...are flippers ever described? XD;  Yeah I guess MM#3 was kind of dumb, too.

Book 50 didn't have a purple color scheme. It was multi-colored. Unless you're talking about the spine which I ignore as part of the cover art. Also, if you're referring to the color of the title, those colors got reused a lot throughout the books.

Just a few things I wanted to be nit-picky about. No time to post my favorites/least favorites right now since I have to get to class. I will later though.

The AC cover is one of my favorites. I'm not sure why, but Elfangor looks so mystifying in it.

I don't like Ax's tail length in book 8, since it should definitely be longer.

I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the covers for the most part. Most everyone besides Cassie and possibly Ax changes their appearance multiple times in the series. It's inconsistent to say the least.

Ax's tail length always bothered me, as other people have said here as well. It didn't seem long enough to be able to reach above his head to attack anyone. I felt that Visser got that right the best.

Andalite Chronicles is probably my favourite special edition cover. Everything including the inside cover with the Animorphs looking down at him were really well done. Other covers that I also really liked: #2, 3, 19, 39, 43, MM#3, MM#4, Hork-Bajir, and Ellimist.

As for the worst cover, I didn't like #54 all that much at all. It didn't seem like an Animorphs cover. Also, the models in the last book were changed AGAIN. Rachel especially looked different from her previous book #48, and the one before that in #42, then #37, and then #32! If they really had to change the cover models, then I really wish that they had stuck with one and signed them up on a contract or something so that it'd all at least look consistent for all the future books. Instead, we were left guessing who these people were for #54.

Cassie obviously looked the same because it was the same person. Tobias and Marco's model were the same from MM#4. Ax was a cardboard cutout, so he didn't change. So it was really Rachel and Jake that bothered me the most here. Jake especially didn't make any sense. The model they used for #54 was the same model from #47, however, they used another model in #53 that looked like the older original Jake, yet in the next book #54, they revert back to the guy from #47. Ugh.

All this switching around was obviously done because of scheduling conflicts, but I still hated it. It's not only that, but the fact that the Jake in #54 looks like he's 10 years old, and younger than everyone else on the cover. Can you honestly look at him and think of him as the leader?

I wish they had either stayed with the same people, or just taken good shots at first then used digital aging throghout the series. You know, how they can use computers to tell what someone would look like a year from now, or three years from now? Repeatedly changing them around/using different people doesn't make sense to me.

Why did Tobias look older in the later books anyway? His morph is still thirteen years old, supposedly. He should look clearly younger than the rest in the later books, if they show him as Human.

Elfangor's tail blade looks like a realistic length to me, and it doesn't bother me that V3's tail is longer. Alloran is older than Elfangor, so his tail is probably at full adult length.
