How long do you think it takes?
« on: July 10, 2008, 06:52:29 PM »
We all know Yeerks have to return to the pool to soak up Kandrona rays every three days. We also know Yeerks can stay in there for their whole lives, without being overradiated or anything.

But what is the minimum amount of time, do you think? I don't think it's ever stated definitely, but sometimes I wonder what the minimum amount is before they can stay out for three days.

I always thought it was somewhere between 30 minutes to two hours, depending on how depleted, but that was me.  They never really said, as far as I remember...

Between 15 minutes and an hour.
I think 15 solid minutes of nutrient intake fills up most beings pretty nicely
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

I'm guessing less than a day. probably even less than 6 hours.

enough time for the voluntary hosts to feel the need to get comfy and watch some tv

i was thinking that they probably have a bit of a wait to get to the pool, probably because of the lack of holdings for free hosts, because there are a lot of controllers hanging around the yeerk pool, like in the cafeteria, which doesnt seem to make sense, seems they would want to get in and out asap to not blow their covers

I always thought it takes about 30 min ~ 1 hour, may be 2 hours but no more... For example, Tom go outside at night quite often, but he mustn't come back too many hours later, because his parents wouldn't like it ^_^' So I imagined it wasn't too long... But it's true we don't have any good explanation about that. No really more about how they give back the good host to his Yeerk. But I imagined somebody say with ultrasounds (as they speak in the pool) who should come back for each host... (I tried to imagine in my fanfiction ^_^' but of course you can't read, it's in French)

I always figured maybe an hour at least, pretty much for the same reasons Dameg--it'd suck to have an invasion force that required your hosts to be away from where they need to be for a long time every three days.  Although it was kind of neat that in Visser they mentioned cell phone reception that far underground x3 "Yeah sorry boss I'm stuck in traffic...in an alien cesspool.  Yeah it's kinda nice actually, I like it..."

It probably does depend on hungry the Yeerk is.  Besides how the Yeerks are called for their hosts (ultrasonically somehow?? maybe there are computer terminals for their little Yeerky palps stuck into the soil edges of the pool?) I always wondered how Yeerks were named.  I mean are they born knowing their name and number, or does some poor sap sit there and count them, and assign a name?

I always figure there might be something sending sonar signals through the water, telling which host is next. Or maybe all the Yeerks swim in lines. Since this is the military, it might be very organized and uniform. Who knows how they organize stuff to make sure the right Yeerk goes to the right host.

I don't think the karma thing is meant to be taken seriously. I may have been smitten a few times for hating the ending. I'm a little surprised that there are more people around here that like the ending than there are that don't, but oh well. About the only time I ever care for tragic endings is when I'm watching/reading horror.

An auction, hehe...

"Damnit, I got Esplin..."

"Hey, man, me too..."

"Oh well.  Are we even developed enough to talk?  We're only grubs."

"Shut up."

"You're..."

"Your twin.  Yeah.  Loser."

"Jerk."

I'm guessing less than a day. probably even less than 6 hours.

I think people would notice if one of their loved ones disappeared for 6 hours, and I'm DEFINITELY sure they'd notice after a day.  ::)

I don't believe it is ever said, but I'd imagine the minimum required time but be pretty short. Of course, the Yeerks are likely to stay in there longer than the minimum, because they find the experience pleasurable (as confirmed by Cassie in book 29). Just like many humans spend more time eating each day than is truly necessary.

If I remember, Esplin 9466 talked a little about that in the Hork-Bajir Chronicles... He said he learnt a lot about Andalites BEFORE he had a body... So they must have computers inside the pool. And they can talk with ultrasounds, so they must use ultrasounds to call the Yirks who should take back their host.
You must be right for the names... Somebody must give them...

I always figure there might be something sending sonar signals through the water, telling which host is next. Or maybe all the Yeerks swim in lines. Must be hard to make a good line when you're little blind slugs in a pool full of happy slugs who are eating ^_^'

...or like Humans who like to stay in their bed all the morning... all the day...
