the nesk
« on: April 08, 2010, 01:17:38 AM »
hey guys

considering the nesk destroyed the mercora with the whole comet blasting earth, anyone think that the nesk ever came back to earth? i used to think that not all the nesk actually left and that the ones that stayed de-evolved into normal ants. any thought?

theres no such thing as deevolution, but yes the nesk are considered to be the ancestors of modern day ants.

And don't forget that the mercora provided us with broccoli! (Much to the dismay of Marco) "I knew that broccoli was alien!"

but i mean the nesk had warehouses and all that stuff. are we to believe that after the comet blanketed earth that everything just disappeared? some of that technology should have survived considering that they were highly advanced

Well if it did exist it could have survived we haven't found it yet. The Earth is a big place it would be buried underground like dinosaur bones.

Considering it's been 65 million years, the chances that it survived are... impossible to judge, at best. The fact is, we don't have any idea how long a civilization can leave its mark. 65 million years might just be too long.

Given that that "life after people" show--which I don't take seriously at all but still--thinks most of human civilization's marks will disappear in less than one million years a few warehouses lasting from the end of the crutacious (sp, bah!) to the present isn't hard to buy at all, and I'd have to reread but I don't recall it saying that they didn't just take everything with them, they may have packed it all up before they left.

Plus, the nesk may have aimed the asteroid right at their enemies, obliterrating the remains of their own camp as well if they were close enough.

Assuming the Nesk left anything behind (like JFalcon said they probably took most/all of it with them) it would almost certainly have been destroyed by the shockwave produced by the impact of the comet.

It is possible that in the Animorphs universe, Earth Ants were the decendants of the Nesk, or that they were related at least. I wouldn't think it likely though, as the Nesk wouldn't have fired a comet at a planet they still intended to live on. Even if somehow a few stray Nesk were left behind, they probably would have perished during/after the impact.

Exactly, why would an intelligent race leave storehouses of nukes, energy weapons and such behind to be vaporized by the comet?

well considering that the dinos lived for like 140 million years, its safe to assume the nesk could possibly still be around. i would think they would come and visit earth at least.

Something I agree with, but I just find it odd every time I read this book: the blast sent them 65 million years back and time.
And 2000 miles south.
The asteriod thought to be this asteriod supposedly hit somewhere in mexico, so I figure that's where this book takes place, but somehow the leap in distance bothers me more than the leap through time  :-\

Psh, RYTX....didn't you know history got it wrong? EVERYTHING of worth takes place in SoCal. Including the end of the dinos. Obviously that's why Visser Three chose to ONLY focus his invasion there and not build a single other Yeerk Pool in THE ENTIRE WORLD.

so.......did the ordinary earth ants and the nesk exist at the same time in the time when the nesk were on earth? or did the ordinary ants didn't exist at all until after the nesk left earth?

Perhaps they coexisted in a way, if ants even existed back then and I don't know if they did, it's possible that the Nesk considered them a good indicator that Earth would be a fine place to live, like how humans sent chimps into space. They could have regarded ants in general the same way humans regard chimps, i.e. a similar species but not actually equal that had best stay out of our way or we'll put them in a world of hurt but whom we otherwise don't care much about except to say "aww, he's like a wittle person!"

It's also possible that other Nesk "colonies" existed and might not have been evacuated before the planet was hit, if they were far enough away these Nesk could have found themselves without transportation if they were stranded, or if their ships were somehow damaged. They may have had a decline in civilization and been reduced to the level of ants, going from a sentient hive mind thingy to a more simple minded one might not be a devolution, but rather survival of the fittest after millions of years, simple minded survival colonies outdoing and thereby outlasting higher thinking colonies until the modern day ants were the result.

If you think a sentient species can't get dumber you clearly haven't met the people I've met.  ;)
