You know the story of Zeus being a bird? In case you don't, let me explain. Zeus took the form of a wet, ragged bird as a way to get Hera to hold him to her breast (wink wink) and take him home. He took advantage of her (aka got laid) and shamed her into marrying him.

This sounds familiar to a certain scene in #25...

A character in a (non-animorphs) book I was reading decided to talk to a random red-tailed hawk.  She'd been thinking something about how the world was ending, and the birds would inherit it soon, and she said something like "Not today, birdie."

I just pictured the hawk being like, <That's okay, I can wait.>

I think the reason that doesn't work, and the reason acquiring puts the target into a trance, is because the morphing tech needs to do a full body scan and figure out how everything should function as normal.  It's taking a snapshot of all the inner workings and seeing how all the parts should do their jobs so it can figure out how to make a good transition without accidentally causing catastrophic organ failure mid-morph.  That would really suck.

That makes a lot of sense, but everything in book 18 happened because Ax said you should be able to morph from blood alone if you had enough of it
