I read books aloud, too! Usually, I'll pick one character and say all of his or her lines aloud as I read; this makes me sympathize with the character and try to get into his or her head in a more meaningful way.
I don't remember which book is the "POP! POP! POP!" but I do remember one of the Animorphs talking at some point about how gunfire doesn't sound anything in reality like the cute little explosive whizzy sounds you hear on television. That has always stuck with me when I watch the news or movies, and it serves for me as a kind of litmus test for whether or not movie and tv actors are convincing terrified.
haha- nice. sounds like something an actress would do. =O me, i know i don't sound like any of the 'morphs, so it actually throws me off a little to read anything aloud.
but then i have an excuse to reread parts i like. >:]
and i'm pretty sure animorphs ingrained that bit of information into me, too. x'D i never trust gunfire when i hear it on tv or in movies, etc.
awwww, lucky patty.... i kinda want extras, too. >_____> i have a few books that are in terrible shape... *cough* all the manufacturer's fault, i swear.
