how bout a chimpanzee or a gorilla? if u cant be a human, i guess its the next closest thing to humans. you would have the same number of arms, legs, fingers, eyes, ears etc. you could still go on living your normal human life. you might not be able to speak cuz the apes throat and tongue are not capable nor designed for human speech, but hey, you've got thought speech - and that alone already has so many advantages over ordinary speech which are based on sounds. and plus you can still write.

This is if you still want to have some sort of resemblance to your original human life whatsoever.
if you choose to be trapped in something like a wolf or a lion or dolphin or parrot if you had to be trapped, then i assume that you do not really want to go back to your ordinary human livelihood and its everyday things anymore? i mean, being a bird that can fly or a wolf or dolphin or a lion might be interesting and fun and all, but hey, im still human at heart. i'd still like to drive go cruising in my mercedes (if i had one) or playing against my buddies on my ps3 and more games online. if i chose to be trapped as a dolphin, parrot, wolf or lion, i wouldn't exactly be able to do these things, whereas an apes body still could.

and i guess being an ape still has more of a chance than a parrot or dolphin or lion would with scoring a date and a night with megan fox (if u get my drift). i mean, at least an ape resembles a human more than a dolphin or a parrot does.

A tiger, obviously.  Specifically, the Siberian subspecies.

I've always felt a somewhat spiritual connection to the species.

Or maybe a Frolis maneuver to become a man-tiger, but I don't really think that's an option.

Nothing wrong with eating cat food if you're a cat, right?

Or an Orangutan. As in Discworld. I mean, you can have fun, be nude, scratch your butt, eat bananas... and nobody say anything! Perfect life ;)

Of course, people'll kill you for your babies to used as pets . . .

It's one of the reasons orangutans are critically endangered.

I'd definitely want to be some form of domestic animal, most likely a cat. I don't actually mind being owned by someone else (at least in my head), and with cats who owns whom is pretty arguable.  >:D

I'd have perfect balance, I'd have great hearing and pretty good sight, and I could curl up in somebody's lap and purr. And no one would care. This is all they would want from me, anyway.

I'd have a little more freedom to screw around than a dog, too. If I could manage it I'd get exercise, actually remember where the house was this time (XD), and try to catch things in the neighborhood. I'd have to tolerate the cat food, but I could supplement that with dead birds and mice. Raw food probably tastes great to a cat, and I love raw fish. :D

I wouldn't live as long, but I'm getting bothered by how old I am anyway. :)

Well... then an orangutan in a magic library.
But I said that for Acalio! I don't wanna be an almost-human animal. I prefer being a big carnivore.

so i take it most of you who don't agree with being an ape of some sort i.e gorilla, chimpanzee, orangutan - are all happy with not being anything close to a human at all and not having your human livelihood anymore? cause besides these creatures, the only thing that would be human about you is your own human consciousness that is within the animals mind.
I'd stay an ape cause its at least some resemblance to humanity, albeit it is not exactly human, its closer to being a human than any other animal.

No sentient creatures, russian. :P

So no whales? ;-)

I would want to be trapped as an bald eagle. Tobias really did get trapped in one of the best of all possible morphs.

My first instinct is wolf or bird of prey, but both have shorter life spans which is a downside. I wouldn't mind being a horse, they live longer and they get to enjoy the freedom of running, but they have a prey instinct I would like to avoid.

Going back to the 'bird' idea, I think I would like to be an albatross. They have a rather long lifespan, possibly exceeding that of a human, they are great fliers, and they are rather large seabirds (and I do love the ocean).

Yeah, this is the main appeal to being an ape or monkey. You can still do some human things.

I would say either a golden eagle or, come to think of it, a great ape.

I originally liked the eagle because eagles can go almost anywhere, are apex predators, and are protected by law almost everywhere - not to mention they can fly, which is so awesome. Remember, communication isn't the problem, as you can still use thought-speak. You would lose out on human things, but you would lose out on those types of things with nearly any animal. Still, I like the eagle because it can fly, it's protected, it has no predators, and it's not dependent on anything else - a wolf needs its pack, a lion needs its pride, etc.

However, the great ape argument got me thinking a bit. It's true though - an ape can still type, use human tools, drive a car, etc. They can't talk, but there's still thought-speak for that. However, it would be awkward and strange to be a part of society as an ape, as well as isolating - a human in an ape's body would be a novelty and always be in a crowd, put up on display. In all honesty, an ape-human would probably be famous - a celebrity, probably getting on TV and such. That's the only reason for an ape, though - if you can't tolerate being the one stared at like a handicapped child, it would be pretty bad. Living in the wild as an ape seems pretty bad - you sit down, eat some leaves and fruit and watch other apes do the same.

Living in the wild as an eagle seems better than that, and if you want to go somewhere that you couldn't fly to, such as a building (a theater, a museum, etc) you could probably just get a leather shoulder pad or a falconer's glove for a friend. Assuming they don't ship you off to some government lab, they will probably let the "talking" eagle inside.

So, it pretty much depends on what you're willing to sacrifice for what. Ape, at the expense of any privacy, or eagle (or any other animal), at the expense of being a part of human society. In either situation, you probably won't form any new relationships - hope you like your family and the friends you already have.

What does it mean to be free?
