Is there anyone else like me? Rereading old classics.
« on: January 24, 2010, 04:31:24 AM »
Hello,

I started reading animorphs about halfway since they had come out, although roughly started form the beginning of the series when I was a teenager. Funnily enough, I was about the same age as the characters as they were in the book - in The Beginning #54 Marco says he was 17, and I was 17 years old when I read that. So I really grew as the Animorphs grew, and the storyline had a huge influence on me at the time. I've got every book (except the crappy alternamorphs) and had read each one at least three times.

I don't know why I was so obsessed with a children's book, although I do enjoy good sci fi. I'm a pretty mature for my age generally, and the reading level of animorphs was always a little too young for me. Still, I was OBSESSED with them. I always got chills reading lines from some old classics.

So I'm 24 years old now, graduated from university in Australia last year and about to start a new job. Don't know why, just bored at home today so decided to go through my old things and picked up #54. Man, some good old memories coming back - although I'm still a little pissed how KA decided to end it.

It was surreal reading the last line, 'You may now demorph'. It was the end of a chapter in my life, since I was getting toward the end of highschool, and after that I moved out of home. It was kind of like I was demorphing - so to speak. But I never forgot the characters I loved and grew up with.

I am thinking of re-reading the old series. Re-reading #54 was fun, brought back a lot of interesting memories for me. I'm rediscovering my old love for the series, and felt I needed to talk a bit about it, so googled animorphs forum - I was really expected an old message board that would be dead, surprised there are people posting here.

So are there any others out there like me - fans that grew up with the books, but adults now?

Hi there, welcome :) glad you found us! What did you study at uni?

You should definitely re-read the series if you find the time. If you don't have hardcopies, the books are available to read here on the forum. http://animorphsforum.com/ebooks/

I started reading Animorphs when I was 10. I'm now 19, so younger than you, but I definitely felt like they were a part of my life!

"I always considered myself a loner. I mean, not like a poor-me, Byron-esque, I-should-have-broughta-swimming-buddy loner. I mean the sort of person who doesn’t feel too upset about the prospect of a weekend spent seeing no one, and reading good books on the couch. It wasn’t like I was a people hater or anything. I enjoyed activities and the company of friends. But they were a side dish. I always thought I would also be happy without them."

Hey, thanks for the welcome  :)

Went to ANU to study law, but now I'm in Sydney.  Yeah, I'm going to re-read the series. I'm reading the Invasion right now. I'll be honest, the first couple of books never did it for me.

Just going through this forum... I can't believe how active it is, especially all the projects stuff! Who the hell are you people lol. I can't believe there are so many people still talking and obsessing about Animorphs after all this time. And yet... still no movie  :-[

I feel the inner teenage geek in me is coming back  ;D

wHELLcome, Axeme!
I'm Vis... I'm Dameg, another RAFian. You already saw the projects, but here is the complete visit, with some little explanations. *Open a heavy door and lead Axeme to a long and dark hallway, with many doors, some in the dark, some with light coming from the other side. Arrive near the first door* Here at your left...

- The Ebooks project: [Help wanted!] Animorphs (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0), Remnants (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html <= finished) and Everworld (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,331.0.html <= almost finished); Even if you can already read them, the Everworld/Animorphs ebooks need to be cleaned a little (mistakes, we don't know where the chapters begin and finish, etc.) so if you wanna be a correcter... call me, I head that projects.

Facing it is...

- RAFipedia: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=22.0, an encyclopedia headed up by Estelore, our star (a true star, who make light and burn in space... but she has a body to come on Earth);

Next it's...

- the Audiobooks project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0, a full-cast audio version of Animorphs who need more "actors" and voices, headed by Kit Cloudkicker (Jess), MrGuy, Morfowt, and Wildweathel;

and here...

- the Graphic Novel project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html, a Webcomic headed by Gafrash.

You also have...

- the Smiley project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html, we make Animated gifs, smileys about Animorphs (Andalites, Hork-Bajirs...);

here and facing it is...

- the Translation project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html, a recently started project/mutual support group for translations into other languages; currently only in French (Tocade, Anidragon and myself), Chinese (Morfowt), Indonesian (Nat), Swedish (Mira and Zana), and Esperanto (Wildweathel); we translate only the volumes never edited in our countries/languages, to make the ebooks;

Next door is for the special project:

- http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html: the adventures of the RAFians;

At the end it's for the little projects:

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html;

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html to make the planets we hear about in Animorphs;

- the paper-RPG project: a role-playing game (on table, with paper, pen and dices...) about the World of Animorphs; I head this project, and it'll be write in French at the beginning, but we need help to find, class and write everything we know about the species, the planets, the powers we see in Animorphs, fix them, see what we keep and what we can't keep (because of the KASU, not clear, exception for the main characters/books, etc.), complete the knowledges about species/planets we know and even create new species/planets...; this project will be on my own website, so if you wanna join, ask me the link ^^;

- the RPG project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html to make a video game about Animorphs, with RPGmaker;

- the Command-line game project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html for another kind of video game about Animorphs;

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html where we count all the people killed by the Animorphs;

- the RAFkaraoke: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html, where we make songs and sing them... It's pretty new... But please sing with us!

and some other projects who come and go. Please check the list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html

*Standing in front of Axeme* I hope you enjoyed your visit. Oh, and I also invite you to add your species on this list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html 'coz everybody isn't Human here. And we like to know who is what... For example, as you'll probably see, I'm a Controller.
Don't worry, you're not dreaming ^^ Anifans are still alive, and they talk a lot! lol We also have many news, for example about the new edition of Animorphs, the potential Animorphs 2.0 and the rumor about a movie.

Now I have to go, I don't invite you for the meal, sorry. *Beginning to go down dark stairs. Axeme can hear a cry coming from the cave.*
Have fun!
*Axeme is now alone in the hallway*

Haha, RAF does that to us quite a lot ;) Animorphs touched us all at a very impressionable age - most of us 'grew up' with Jake and Co. I guess those of us who can't let go of that part of our childhood will always keep the activity here going strong.

Welcome to the forum, Axeme - glad to have you here  :)

Also, sorry about the RAFChat earlier - I was AFK and saw your 'hello' only after you left  :(

Hey Axeme. Welcome to the forum! As Ash said, there are a lot of us (myself included) who grew up reading the books as they were published, and have just never run out of things to say about them! I think you'll find yourself right at home here!

Sorry RAFchat was quiet when you visited earlier, but it's usually hopping during the evenings in the US (which, if my conversions are accurate, is midday/early afternoon for you?). Come back some time, if you get the chance; it's a great way to meet folks!

Welcome to RAF, Axeme.

I am known as Cloaky, or simply Cloak (although the latter is not as common as the former).

Hey there! I'm Gaz, nice you meet you!

I remember starting the Animorph books around 5th/6th grade and dragging my mom to the bookstore every month so I could buy the new one. I'm currently finishing my senior year in college and still have all my books. lol

Hello hello ^_^

Considering when the Animorphs books were published and the age group they were aimed at, it's safe to say you're not alone on this forum age-wise.

You know, I cannot for the life of me remember what book I read first... I think it may have been #4, but I was definitely awaiting monthly installments by #6.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Welcome to RAF! Enjoy  ;)

Welcome to RAF!!!

I'm Spartan 281. AKA Spartan, Parker, Park, Brandon, Shaft.

We have tons of stuff to do! Dameg has already shared a bunch, but one section we have is Role Playing. Since you enjoy RPing, we have two different sections:

http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,6.0.html
There is the popular http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2089.0.html where you can just be your character's self and hang out and "talk" to other characters. Though being a bar, sometimes there are scuffles, but big battles are very rare.

And a number of Animorphs based RPs

Then there's http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,23.0.html
Here are any other RPs:

I'm currently running a HALO RP, so if you like HALO (I realize not everyone does), read the rules, PM me your guy, and we'll get you started: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3888.285.html

We have a fun http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2223.2370.html RP where you're yourself(ish) and we sometimes have great adventures, right now we're rescuing Moderators that were transported to different universes.

If you enjoy games like Civilization, there's a great story-based RP where you build an entire world and race: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3641.0.html. Definitely read the intro, and post your interest here: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3900.0.html

There are a bunch of other fun RPs that you could get into since you like RPing.
