I think that it might be a good idea to put a subforum under General for the more politically charged threads as well as guidelines so that arguments don't get out of hand.

I second this -- simply so I can avoid those threads.

If this is done it will run into the same problem that the Life board had. Identity crisis. People will be asking... is this Politics, or is the General?!

If there is a distinct need / want by members to separate the boards, then maybe there should have been a poll?

You make a good point, just about anything could end up becoming a political discussion. Being that I think it would be wrong to censor anyone's opinions, maybe it would be simpler to put something in the rules about not lett political or religious arguments become personal.

I agree with cloaked that I would want to avoid discussions like this but would add that I think having a separate board would promote political debates which only leads to bad things imo

My friend has a rule in his house; no religion, no politics lol cause people just cant talk those two things rationally

But if you want to give the board a shot I'll back the decision

Maybe instead of a separate board, there could just be some kind of prefix to put on serious debate threads like that, so that anyone who saw that prefix in the title could avoid them if they wanted to. Something like... oh.. just the word debate maybe? Like say for example, 'DEBATE: Best fast food place?'

Yeah that's a good idea Ray :)

I like to stay away from those topics.
"I always considered myself a loner. I mean, not like a poor-me, Byron-esque, I-should-have-broughta-swimming-buddy loner. I mean the sort of person who doesn’t feel too upset about the prospect of a weekend spent seeing no one, and reading good books on the couch. It wasn’t like I was a people hater or anything. I enjoyed activities and the company of friends. But they were a side dish. I always thought I would also be happy without them."

I vote not, but I do agree with starting any/all debate based threads with the title "DEBATE:"

I agree with Spartan. Not enough people are interesting in a debate forum to warrant making one, but prefacing threads will help attract people who like to debate, while allowing people who do not like to argue to steer clear.

I think a debate forum would be nice so that anyone that wants a challenge an other views can have a area to do so without passer byes saying he's trolling or controlling a topic or throwing one off the beaten path? I mean I know we've all had it happen in a thread?
