yea i pictured it probably a little bigger than a rubix cube. In #21 marco tries to carry it in osprey morph and its too big to hold in one talon but small enough to use both talons but too heavy for him to get very high off the ground with it

I dont really think its that big!
There are many dangers for an Andalite in human morph. For one thing, there is the constant danger that you will fall off your two legs. The slightest push and you can topple over. But worst by far, is the danger of taste. Taste is the sense that can drive an Andalite mad! Especially is it involves cinnimon buns or chocolate.

Didn't Ax say it could be taken apart? It could have been a lie to deceive David

i believe it was such.

I thought they once took it apart in one of the later books (late 40s or maybe 50s) so they each could carry a part of it in bird morph?

Yes, when they first mentioned taking the cube apart it was never explicitly stated that it was anything but part of a ploy to deceive David; but in #50, The Ultimate, they explicitly do state that Ax broke the cube down for them to carry in morph.

As far as the size goes, I pictured it being a bit bigger than a Rubik's Cube since the placing of all five human hands (plus one Andalite hand) didn't seem particularly awkward or crowded. Based on context I pictured more like big enough to fit an average (not fully grown) hand on one face of it comfortably, so Jake's estimate of 4 cubic inches is a fair one but 5 inches or 10 cm are also fair representations.

12 inches (1 foot) is definitely too big for Jake's estimate to have been that far off though, and I discount cover art from ever reflecting necessary canon in books, they are often way too literally inaccurate for books in general. In Animorphs specifically, the fact that every cover morph shows a gradual, uniform morph throughout the body rather than individual, unpredictable parts shows that the Ani cover art isn't intended to show a canonical representation of elements of the books.

You sillies. It's the morphing cube. Of course it changes sizes. ;)
I love that answer, very Alice in Wonderland.

no no no. we do not use book covers for evidence. I'll be darned if I've even seen a single cover where tobias has blonde hair.

in the books, in text, tobias cannot carry the escaffi device. however, an osprey almost did once. so, we can determine it is big enoguh talready partially fhat its really really hard for a normal sized hawk to carry, but not impossible. I say 4*4*4 inches is a pretty good guess, based on the pocket thing. you know what thoug is.h? it was visible in a baclarge squarkpack. it changed the shape of a backpack enough that people could see: hey, there is a large squarish object in this backpack. soo... not as accurate of proonnot carry thf as the pocket. could have been a small backpack. could have been an alreaut not impossibdy partially filled backpack. so, unless there is any other evidence. 4 inches to an edge it is.

4x4, maybe a little larger, makes sense as about hand sized.

I actually bought these funny little colo(u)r changing cubes one year and I imagined it to be very like the morphing cube (I used to stick it on when reading the latest book lol)
It was about... Yeah, like the size of a Rubik's cube

I think there was a part where Tobias carried it too? So I would imagine it would have to pretty small because it would be too smooth to grasp in claws XD

IMHO, the Morphing Cube, aka Blue Box, aka Escafil Device, is 10 centimetres, or, as you say in the US, 4 inches.
Jake says this measure in #1 The Invasion.

Well that cleared it up.
Well, I'm the boss... Head Honcho. El Numero Uno. Mr. Big. The Godfather. Lord of the Rings. The Bourne... Identity. Er... Taxi Driver. Jaws. I forgot the question quite a while back. Who are you, again?
