What happened to the Peace Movement, anyway?
« on: June 22, 2008, 02:43:18 PM »
The Peace Movement seemed to be mostly Yeerks who had no hosts. When the pool complex was destroyed, many died and the other 17,000+ were put in the Pool Ship. Then Jake had it drained, and the Yeerk Peace Movement members never crossed his mind.

The members of the Movement were never mentioned after the war. What was the point of making it if Applegate was going to have them die anyway? Where are they? Why weren't they even mentioned?

There is one time after the complex is destroyed where a random Hork-Bajir Controller discreetly saves Jake from Visser Three, and they figure members must still be around. After that, though, there is no mention of them.

Should we just write that off as another KASU?

You can't in all fairness call it a KASU. She didn't screw up; she just didn't mention a bunch of nameless background characters, and I don't think we can't fault her on that. It's a minor loose end, at best. (Although I believe they WERE mentioned when considering the destruction of the pool.)

They probably got the morphing ability just like the other Yeerks, anyway. No reason they wouldn't.

Not all of them necessarily wanted the morphing power, though. I'm sure there were some of them who were happy with what they were, got along with their host, and wanted to keep that way of life. If the host had no problem with it, then why should the Yeerk become a nothlit?

I find it unfair that the Yeerks only had two options at the end, as far as we were told. Surrender and be transformed, or become prisoners? Not very great options, really. I mean, I know that they just lost a war, but as has been stated multiple times on this forum AND in the books, not ALL the Yeerks were bad, or had a choice about whether they were in the war or not.

well if they didn't transform, they'd die from kandrona starvation wouldn't they?

actually that was in book 50 before the yeerk pool was destroyed...

I agree, I always wished there'd been more clarity on what happened to the Yeerks at the end of the series, especially the Peace Movement  ::)  I mean, they can't all have died in the pool flushing or the bombing...AND the Hork-Bajir, Taxxons and Andalites had some finality, even if it meant they became national park denizens or food-gobbling tourists.  What happened to the major baddies in the series, especially since some of them weren't so bad?  Bleh!

IMHO, Cassie should have insisted that provisions be made to keep the yeerk Peaceniks supplied with Kandrona rays.  Such insistance would fit her character.
