Yeeeaah this book could have been better if more had been done with the premise, but I feel like it still wouldn't have great even then? Not enough time to develop anything.

Oh my god... hahaha how could someone mess up on that quote/song that FitzHenry and his men sang. :Facepalms:

How could you compare the struggles of an oppressed minority to star trek fans
I have no idea why, but you saying that caused me to laugh really hard  :rofl2:

I always thought it was dumb how they just briefly mention in passing that they can morph clothes now, like it's no big deal. Hell I think I almost missed it the first time I read this book. They can't just throw that in without any explanation or Marco making jokes about how they no longer have to wear spandex.

Honestly it never even occurred to me that the Hork-Bajir were meant to represent the runaway slaves. I always assumed that they meant for the campers to be in their place, since plot-wise that makes the most sense. Jake initially refuses their help just like his ancestor refused the help of the escaped slaves to begin with. It does seem like it's trying too hard to make the stories connect. I'm sure the Civil War diary entries are great if you're into that kind of thing, but for the most part I just found them boring and a waste of time that could have been spent on better things. Like explaining how they can suddenly morph clothes damn it.

There's a very good reason TVTropes links to that video in the tearjerker section of the Animorphs page. And that's because it's ****ing incredible.

Pshh, no way you can be more hardcore than me, the guy who has never been on a date, never done drugs, and has held a job for almost a year now.

In all actuality, I do identify as a hardcore punk.

Anyway, next batch of mp3s coming maybe tonight. I'll try to finish them after dinner.

Pack 2 is up. Sorry it took so long to convert these, but real life and laziness got in the way.

Honestly, I found this review a bit more nit-picky than usual. Then again, it's probably hard to get much material out of a book that has to rush its two different plots so much that it doesn't really have any time to breathe. I'm really not sure why Michael Grant felt the need to crowbar his Civil War story into an Animorphs book, since it really was a stretch and a half to make the two fit together. Both stories ended up suffering heavily due to having to be compressed into about half a book each, and either one would have been pretty decent had they taken up the entire book.

Also, next set of mp3s is almost done. Just worked through the David Trilogy, so now all I have to do is convert the Hork-Bajir Chronicles. Probably tomorrow? I dunno.

The Civil War story was odd. I actually skipped it, so I don't even remember it half the time.

On my first read, I skipped it too. I never really enjoyed reading Civil War stories --fictional or nonfictional. Maybe I bit too finicky with what I read. *indifferent shrug*

I'm starting to like Marco a lot more as I hear these reviews and reflect on the books I've read. I found him to be a good character, but I didn't find him nearly as interesting as I do now.
yeah

re: YeerkSalad: I have a friend who apparently has never sworn, not even said "stupid" or "shut up". She has been homeschooled since grade 4 and isn't allowed to have social networks, though, so I'm pretty sure it's just an outlier.
