What if Elfangor had lived?
« on: June 19, 2008, 01:49:21 PM »
I've always wondered how Animorphs would have been different if Elfangor hadn't died. I mean, would he have become a mentor kind of character in the series,
Ax might have been saved from the ocean faster,
Jake could have been second in command, thus less stressed
Ax would have his brother
Would Cassie become a better artisic morpher
Would the Animorphs even have learned about the truth of the war
Would the Andalite fleet come sooner
Heck, would Elfangor even have given the Animorphs their powers and broken the law of Seerow's Kindness...

Any thoughts, people?

Whoa, good point. If he weren't dying, he probably wouldn't have. The Animorphs might never have been given the ability to morph. So, what if they hadn't? MM4 showed that they cut through that construction sight for a reason, but if Elfangor had lived...

Good point you have there. Maybe things would have been better, maybe not.

If he hadn't died, he would have used the Time Matrix, as stated earlier.

But let's say the Matrix didn't exist. He would have likely still given them morphing power to help him. He would have become a kind of mentor/teacher. Kind of like how Splinter was to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And don't tell me you don't know the TMNT. I will hunt you down.

It's kind of a cliche, I think, which may be why Applegate had him die instead of survive.

Yeah, I agree. And, it made the books so much more interesting and exciting.

I was thinking Zordon from Power Rangers, but yours may be a more apt comparison

Yes, more than Zordon because he'd be battle capable.

I'd say neither, he may be the mentor, but he's not old, he's an Andalite warrior in his prime. He wouldn't just sit on the sidelines training them, he'd be in battle with them, more like the general leading the charge.

You left out a major thing. Tobias would have his father.

THAT would be interesting. We know that Elfangor recognizes his son, but how would he break the news to him. Would he prevent Tobias from getting stuck in morph, even though Tobias subconsciously wanted to become a nothlit rather than return to his uncle?

I figured the Tobias connection was plain as day, yes Elfangor would have told Tobias I think, or something, he may have even searched for Lorean...
Although I doubt they would be a happy family again.

well if Elfangor would have been alive......there would have been no animorphs.....since I don't think Elfangor was a kinda guy who would risk others(specially kids) life for his own people....and definately not Tobias's life.....And even if there would have been an animorphs.....maybe the book would not be that interesting....what say??

He would definitely use the Time Matrix sooner or later if he lived... probably no Animorphs... since he would make the Andalite fleet even more prepared, thus winning the war on Earth before Jake, Cassie, Tobias, Rachel, and Marco would even notice.

Marco would never see his mother again.
Rachel would never be the dark killer.
Tobias would never know his family and never get any friends.
Cassie would still love animals (and Jake).
And Jake might prolly lose his brother, but still become an average everyday person.

But Aximili would still be the inferior little brother...  :-\
I'm just a writer, and my main goal was always to entertain. But I've never let Animorphs turn into just another painless video game version of war, and I wasn't going to do it at the end. I've spent 60 books telling a strange, fanciful war story, sometimes very seriously, sometimes more tongue-in-cheek. I've written a lot of action and a lot of humor and a lot of sheer nonsense. But I have also, again and again, challenged readers to think about what they were reading. To th

If he had the time matrix he could have destroyed the yeerk invasion by killing Visser One when she arrived on earth. Then he would take his place with Loren and raise Tobias. The question is whether or not he would have stayed on earth or dragged Loren and Tobias to The Andalite Homeworld and made them Andalite Nothlits so that they would not be outsiders.
