Metal Gear Rex/Ray
« on: June 22, 2009, 01:35:43 PM »
I was playing Metal Gear Solid/MGS2: Sons of Liberty the other day and I was thinking, "Hmm... Yeerks and Andalites... I wonder if they could have built weapons like Metal Gear REX (originally debuted in Metal Gear Solid-PSX) and Metal Gear RAY (original prototype debuted in MGS2: Sons of Liberty) ... " Both were actually prototypes, if you dont count what Liquid Ocelot used in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots...

The Andalites can probably come up with much stronger weapons if they felt like it...

think of what a dome ship or a blade ship would do to metal gear

Obliterate it.

Andalites have capabilites that far surpass that of "fussion power" which is only used for things like children's toys on the andalite homeworld. To be honest I don't think weapons that walk on two legs are actually that efficent, you could have much greater manuverability with a hovercraft. Plus legs would take much longer to create and would have to be extremly complex.

Kid, I hate to tell you, but Metal Gear would OWN the Yeerks and/or Andalites!

MG-REX would own because: Metal Gear REX, designed by Yoji Shinkawa, is the model of Metal Gear that appears in Metal Gear Solid. REX differs from the preceding Metal Gear D in that its legs are heavily armored and reinforced, not vulnerable like its predecessors'. The Metal Gear REX has near-impenetrable compound armor, a pair of 30 mm vulcan cannons[7], anti-tank missiles, and a free-electron laser, to protect itself from conventional forces. Its primary weapon, however, is a MAGNETIC RAILGUN CAPABLE OF DELIVERING AN UNTRACEABLE NUCLEAR WARHEAD anywhere in the world, without the propellant trail or launch flare that gives away the launch position of a traditional ballistic missile. Because of its sealed, one-man ****pit and thick armor, its sensors are concentrated in a radome on the left side of its body; this radome is very vulnerable to attack, and destroying it effectively blinds the REX, forcing the ****pit to open. In this state, the REX is vulnerable as its controls can be easily destroyed (In Metal Gear Solid, Otacon states that this was intentional, declaring that nothing can be complete without a "character flaw").

MG-RAY would own simply cause it was designed as a "REX killer" (Otacon/Hal Emmerich confirms this in MGS4 in the REX versus RAY fight: "RAY may have been designed as a REX killer, but you have me on your side. You can't lose! Crush RAY, and Liquid with it!!" and at least hinted at in MGS2). And also: Metal Gear RAY, also designed by Yoji Shinkawa, is first seen in an easter egg in Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and is fully introduced in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It comes in two variants: a manned prototype version, developed to combat derivatives of Metal Gear REX, and an unmanned, computer-controlled version, refitted to defend Arsenal Gear. RAY differs from previous Metal Gears in that it is not a nuclear launch platform, but instead a weapon of conventional warfare, originally designed to hunt down and destroy the many derivatives of Metal Gear REX that became common after the leak of the REX plans following the events of Shadow Moses. It is designed to be even more maneuverable and flexible in deployment than the REX, and can operate both on land and in the water. While RAY has a pair of machine guns and six missile tubes to defend itself from more conventional battlefield threats, its primary weapon is a powerful water jet cutter, which can cut through heavily-armored foes, such as bootleg variants of Metal Gear REX. The Metal Gear RAY is more organic than previous models, both in appearance and in function. Its streamlined shape helps to deflect enemy fire and allows for greater maneuverability both on land and in water. Its interior workings are also somewhat organic, as it has artificial fibers that contract when electricity is applied, much like natural muscle, instead of typical hydraulics; this pseudo-muscle tissue makes it very maneuverable. It also has a nervous-system-like network of conductive nanotubes, which connect the widely dispersed sensor systems and relay commands from the ****pit to the various parts of RAY's body, automatically bypassing damaged systems and rerouting to auxiliary systems when needed. Another feature is its blood-like armor-repair nanopaste, which is secreted from valves and coagulates wherever the exterior surface is damaged. Particularly unusual is its "face", with two "eyes" and a gaping "mouth", only seen when the head armor is removed. The armor on Metal Gear RAY's exterior is made of a highly advanced Ceramic-Titanium Alloy.

Oh, and let's not forget Arsenal Gear: Arsenal Gear (appearing in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty) is a submersible, mobile fortress developed by the Patriots in the Big Shell, but it was made by the U.S. Navy. It has the ability to monitor, block, and tamper with Internet communications in order to further the goals of the Patriots. It is a metaphor for the change of warfare in the last decades of the 20th century, from nuclear war to a war of culture, information, and espionage. Arsenal Gear is hidden under the Big Shell, and is controlled by an AI named "GW", which was designed by Emma Emmerich. The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 actually reveals that the Arsenal below the Big Shell is not the only one, and each Arsenal is run by its own Patriots AI system. Arsenal Gear is large enough to house - and also require - a significant force for its defense. The exterior is shown when Raiden and Solidus are heading for Federal Hall and see it speeding under many bridges before it crashes. The Arsenal Gear hidden under the Big Shell has an unspecified number of "Tengu Commandos", soldiers clad in powered armor and armed with P90 submachine guns and high-frequency blades. It also has a squadron of 25 mass-production Metal Gear RAYs under the direct control of GW.

These weapons would totally OWN the Yeerks and/or Andalites!

You really are out of your mind.  ::)

The andalites are way past nuclear power. I have no doubt that the
sheild of an andalite dome ship could protect itself from a barage of nuclear
weapons.

Plus the andalites possess cloaking technology that would make them invisible to any form of human radar, making it impossible for the Rex or Ray to even see them.

Plus: "<If the yeerks wanted to destroy your planet they could simply ignite the atmosphere in orbit with there Dracon beams>" a dracon barage would destroy any metal gear.

In terms of raw power (which was the only thing you focused on) it would be an even match but I think that even a yeerk bug fighter could take out a metal gear if given enough time.

I know I am going to me smited for this but you can't just post crap from an article without looking at it and call it evidence.

I doubt we could ignite the entire atmosphere on Earth no matter what we did.  We don't have the right fuel/oxygen ratio to do so.

Falsehood.  Andalites are said to be past nuclear technology entirely (as Ax says, they use plutonium in children's toys).  Metal Gears can deliver stealthy nukes?

Umm, Andalites can blow chunks off a planet with a single Dome Ship.  We know they have multiple Dome Ships, probably more in the dozens than simply three or four.  We know about that many by name.

That's not even counting their fighters, and supply stuff, and the little cruiser-class assault ship Jahar type of things which are inherently kickasstacular.

We don't even have orbital weapons platforms.  Pretty sure there's nothing significant in the way of them in the MG universe either, at least nowhere on Animorphs-aliens levels.

One Dome Ship alone would most likely be able to overcome our entire planet's military forces, much the way the USS Nimitz could take over just about all of South-East Asia alone.

They're badass blue herbivores, gangster.

Yeerks, meh, maybe.  But hey, a Metal Gear can beat a worm.  Bragging rights?  Notsomuch.

Yeah, speaking as a huge MGS fan, a single Andalite fighter would vaporize REX.

Dont count the yeerks out, maybe Yeerk technology is just Andalite technology with a new name and some adjustments, but anything the Andalites can vaporize the mighty Yeerks can vaporize too  :P

Um . . . by "we" I mean "us" . . .

. . . no wait, that still doesnt work . . .

I mean "they" . . . no that doesnt wor--no wiat, yes, yes it does! That works, I mean "they", it was a typo, they keys are so close together and such . . .

Anway they can take out a metal gear, I mean an Andalite Dome Ship can take out a significant portion of a continent and a Blade Ship can two shot a Dome Ship, I'd call their chances agaisnt a land based anything pretty good.  ;D

look, anything that can be created in the MGS universe, the yeerks could smoke it.... and as we all know, "Anything the Yeerks can do, the Andalites did it first!"

'sides i reckon a pissy little big fighter could burn a hole right thru REX, RAY and even the Shagohod with its Dracon beams!
