The YPM and Chee
« on: May 03, 2009, 02:17:29 PM »
If KA wanted there to be a YPM, why do you think the Chee seemingly don't have much to do with it? It would have been so easy for the Chee to make their own Kandrona machine, and use it to convince Yeerks to come to their side and leave the war. They wouldn't even have to tell any Yeerks what they really were. I mean, they have a hideaway that is never detected by Yeerk forces. They obviously have the technology to allow the Yeerk in Erek's head to live. It would be quite believable if the Chee were actually the ones who started the YPM in the first place.

Why do you think KA never made any connections between the Chee and YPM? Furthermore, do you think the deal with the Yeerk in Erek's head was just supposed to be a minor plot device? I don't think it's ever mentioned in the series after book 10, so it's possible that she didn't mean for readers to think about the possibilities too much.

I don't think that you forcing Yeerks to defect would work quite as well. The YPM had to come about naturally, with Yeerks truly coming to the realization that they were in the wrong. I wouldn't necessarily trust a Yeerk who had been 'convinced' by the Chee. It might turn its back on them as soon as it got a chance.

I think that the Chee were never directly involved in the YPM because they were too concerned with maintaining their cover. Although I'm sure there were probably ways they could have helped indirectly, without revealing who/what they were.

It is never discussed how Yeerks agree to be in the Yeerk peace movement- I assume close Yeerk friends came together and decided they wanted out.  Since we know Yeerks talk to each other in the Yeerk pool, how could they possibly be conversing with a Yeerk in the Chee head, since the Chee never free their Yeerks.

Let's talk about how holding a sentient creature captive in your head is actually NOT being completely peaceful.  Holding back even a slug is restraining someone- and thus violence.  KASU?

better than the alternative (starving/killing it).
restraining is always better than killing/harming.

But doesn't Erek state in one of the books that he cannot restrain someone because it would be considered violence?  The Yeerk is a sentient creature, albeit a small one.  Just because it is easier and quieter when restrained, doesn't mean restraint is peaceful.

I think the moral here is how impossible it is to be one hundred-percent peaceful, one hundred-percent of the time.  Life is rarely peaceful.

They can restrain (remember Erek's dad holding Rachel's Grizzly), but if the thing they're restraining is capable of fighting back, then they can't use force to keep it restrained.

Like, for example, I could hold your arm, and you would be restrained. But if you were strong enough to break free, then I might hurt you by trying to keep the restraint.

I'm not talking about keeping they YPM Yeerks in the Chee's heads or anything. They could still inhabit voluntary hosts. Those that don't would stay in the pool that the Chee keep, like the one in the cave, except the ones under Chee protection would be much safer.

The Sickness: Cassie rescues Aftran, but doesn't know how to keep her alive.  Why doesn't Erek offer Aftran access to a Chee Kandrona generator?  Why doesn't Cassie suggest that idea?

The Experiment: Same question regarding the scientist Controller who escaped with the Animorphs from the Yeerk slaughterhouse.
