"Glorious," I said, as John agreed to the ritual. "It may require more pain than you are used to allowing yourself everyday."

I went to the Zetylon(I had decided to stay with that name. Most mocked me for naming my ship after my former partner.) and grabbed a belt with small pockets all around. It was a sick green color. Each pocket held a different knife for different occasions. The J'kiirutt knife was the second largest. It was almost circular, except for a small prong sticking out of the front, bent upwards and out. The hilt was six inches long. The blade was 4 inches in diameter, and the prong was 2 inches long.

"The J'kiirutt ritual involves cuting ones palm, and letting the blood drip onto a dais of some sort...perhaps a bar table. And then the other lets their blood fall onto the formers. Then, it is split in half, and each half is put in a drink. The participants partake of the drink. You may choose whatever drink you wish. Still wish to continue?"

"Yes I would like to continue." <Since your going to do it I'll stay nearby so you don't kill yourself.> "Would you like to go into the bar for the ritual?" John asked.

John was an admirable man. From what I could tell, he was willing to put himself through pain to become my Bloodbrother. I wondered if it was really because he liked being my friend. I suspected it was.

"Yes, that is a good idea," We walked into the bar. I walked up to a table. The sad humanoid watched us.

"We must take up positions on opposite sides of the table." I pulled out the J'kiirutt. There was something I neglected to tell him. Only Reptilinod knew exactly what the J'kiirut knife did. I brought it to my palm. It dug into my skin. Then the hilt button glowed. I pressed it.

Energy conducted itself down the blade. It sparked as it reached the gash in my hand. I screamed a triumphant scream as the energy dissipated. That was the was of the J'kiirutt ritual. I handed the Knife to John.

Tora stops, turning to watch Myitt and Corliss as they speak. Pausing for a moment of introspection, it seems her mood has been affected by the recent events. "Myitt," she calls after her, hurrying to catch up. "Do you think you will truly stay a while, then? If so, perhaps it would be worth my time to attempt a repair of my ship. I would like to return home soon, but..."

She lets the sentence hang, suddenly uneasy as she realizes where Myitt is going. "I will leave you to it, then," she murmurs, peeling off from her, having no desire whatsoever to speak with Terenia. Walking this small distance, however, has brought her unknowingly closer to the Hork-Bajir who had both dragged Tamora to her death and carried her away from it. Had she been aware that this was the War Prince who knew her true species, she likely would have remained hidden in Corliss's Skimmer.

Mar smiles oddly. "Of course. I cannot teach you how to fly without teaching you how to access your own power first, after all. And..you should not be so careless with your words, you know."

As Mar and Salem come slowly out of the part of the woods they were wandering into, Mar catches sight of Terenia. Mar's expression shifts into a nasty grin. Poor, poor Terenia. Reeking of regret and emptiness and things unsaid. A feast for the Highest, indeed. He couldn't miss an opportunity to make it worse. Mar slinks into the clearing, coming into Terenia's view.

"Oh what a sorry sight this is," he states in a lilting, strange tone. "But sadly, inevitable. The poor worthless fool has finally realized that all her attempts to do good end in failure. That her quest to rescue her bratty sister was pointless and ended in her death. I could have told you that when we first met. Tamora's love for you had long since passed you by."

It's odd. He knows that he is good at reading the emotions of others, but he's not sure exactly why he would feel more acquainted with the details of her miserable life. He did remember and overhear Terenia's early conversations with the others, though. Nothing to worry about. Mar nods at Salem, as if ackowledging he still exists.

Terenia's dreamlike trance is broken by Mar's approach. She watches with a blank expression as he verbally abuses her, noticing in a distant sort of way how everything around her is being sorted into two distinct categories of 'relevant' and 'irrelevent'. It is as if a veil has lifted over her life, showing her precisely how pointless everything is.

"I suppose," Terenia says in a flat voice when Mar's tirade is done, "that I should have asked then."

She turns away from him, his harsh words and clear enjoyment of her pain already sorted into the 'irrelevent' pile in her mind.

Mar nods carefully at Terenia's response. Expected, though disappointing. She is emotionally numb and exhausted, after all. He continues to pace almost boredly, wanting to stay in the same area as her in order to take advantage of his opportunity.

"So what exactly are you after now?" mutters Mar. "Are you just going to waste out your days in this Bar? You don't seem to be anywhere near either the rebels or Ossanlin. I am merely here to use your current mental state to gain energy."

John was slightly startled when Vogefak screamed but he was not deterred. He took the knife and gritted his teeth as he dug it into his palm when the button on the hilt glowed he looked at Vogefak. "Do I press it?" I didn't like swing John in pain but he seem content to go through with it.

Terenia pauses midstride, turning to face Mar. She is somewhat curious about his prolonged interest, even if interactions with him already fall under the 'worthless' category in her mind.

"I am leaving," she says, "going back to Visser Three." For a moment she contemplates asking him about his energy comment, but she can't seem to muster the energy to care. She turns back around and continues to walk away.

We'll talk about that later, then, Dara. Kevlin, if there's more you'd like to do against the Council than just working for me, then that's fine. As I've stated, I plan to join an existing rebellion. I can discuss everything with Reven. I wonder if I should do that now, or after our mission to save Del. I think it's going to be a little while until repairs are done, so I might as well do that now. Kevlin, you're in charge until I come back." Temrash said, and headed out to the Skimmer. when he got there, he found only corliss inside.

"Hey, Corliss. Do you think I could talk to Reven? I've got some people who may be suitable for joining the resistance."

Mar stares in surprise for several moments, Despite everything that's happened, that was really the last thing he expected Terenia to attempt to do. When he regains his composure, he chuckles at the irony of it all.

"So...let me see if I understand you..." Mar states with a smirk. "After everything we have done for you. After people have died for the sake of your sister's freedom. After Ossanlin..." Mar grits his teeth at this last bit of memory. "...was brutally injured because of machinations apparently also concerning her.."

"...you are just going to go right back to your master, to where you started?" Mar shakes his head back and forth in amazement. "That takes a twisted mindset I can't even begin to fathom. And I deal in madness."

"Where else is there?" Terenia asks rhetorically. She expects no answer - there really isn't one. "Ossanlin and the others knew before this even started how it would end. I warned them. They chose not to listen." She shrugs, not looking over her shoulder at Mar, not even giving him the courtesy of a glance. "They chose their path, I choose mine." She does not mention Corliss, although a small thought surfaces in the back of her mind.

Is this his fault too? Did Corliss choose misery? it asks. She ignores it. No use obsessing over that which will soon be gone.

Mar purrs, following her carefully. He doesn't seem to be too terribly concerned with the one-sidedness of their conversation. He's almost enjoying himself. "Mmm, you could let the rebels help you recover," states Mar as he follows her. "You did warn them, as I recall. But they have fallen so far into your madness that I'm sure the bleeding hearts would try to find a place for you. Though they seemed less than amenable."

Mar then stops next to her, holding out his peculiar gauntleted hand. "...but if you really think there's nothing for you to live for, then I could kill you right here. It would be a waste of such delicious feeling, but it would get rid of a problem those I care for have been having. And if I'm lucky, you may become even more acquainted with meaninglessness than you already are."

Terenia hesitates and, for just a moment, seems to be considering Mar's offer. Then she shakes her head, pushing his hand aside, "Not interested."

She walks a few more paces before heaving a sigh and stopping. She is coming to the slow realization that Mar really does not want to leave her be. Planting her feet firmly in the ground she turns to face him, not saying anything, but waiting for his next rally against her.

Mar, for his part, simply sits down in the middle of the ground and closes his eyes for a little while. He's not particularly clear on exactly why he's following her around himself. It's possibly just because he's been starving for food ever since he got here. Terenia is currently a walking bastion of it. Or possibly it's because he likes having someone to play with. Everyone else he has spoken to has either been decent or not worth his time.

Mar waits until he's clear on what he's going to say, and finally says, "...you interest me. It's not like I haven't seen people of little redeemable value before. Most of my customers are something like that. But you seem to held on for so long that to see you gone is a disappointing end. Your Visser will kill you now, you know. It is not the same."
