<Don't worry,> Terenia says as she enters the ship, <I'm not going to try and access any of your precious information. I couldn't care less where the rebel Yeerks are hiding out.>

She glances at the device that Corliss says will play music and tentatively hits play. She does not recognize the melodies that come spilling out of the speakers and turns the volume down so that it is almost inaudible.

<Never was big on music,> Terenia comments, <when I left Earth the next big thing was the Spice Girls...>

The tune was some kind of modern rock, the male singer going on about crashing cars.  Corliss smirks.  "Dunno this band either, you'll 'ave to ask Tara.  If they ever show their stupid hides here..."  He exhales, worried.  "Okay.  Text based message sent.  Just have to be...patient."

He looks over at Terenia.  "Are you this bored?" he asks wryly.

<No, not bored,> Terenia says, although she'll never admit to her true purpose for following him. She wants to make sure that she does not become accused of alerting the Imperials to the Mirage's presence...and another part of her is interested in finding out whether they succeeded in recovering her sister. Yet another, even more suppressed, part of her is just desperate to stay in the company of someone who does not hate her instinctively.

<<Your affection for the Yeerk is touching,>> Efaen sneers.

<<Shut up,>> Terenia snaps, <<you don't have a clue what you're talking about.>>

<<I think I know exactly what->>

<<If you don't stop talking right now,>> Terenia warns, <<I will make sure that if the Andalites succeed in freeing you, you will not get to enjoy that freedom.>>

<<Empty threats,>> Efaen comments, <<if the Andalites succeed in freeing me, then they will succeed in killing you.>>

Terenia does not respond directly, instead pulling herself out of her reverie, realizing that Corliss may want a legitimate answer. She hopes that he does not question her spaciness, or notice the doubt and fear written across her expression, <I am only curious to see how much longer I will be held captive on this rock.>

Elayne had been reaching for his forehead at his movement, but then stopped short at his strong reaction. She stared back at him, surprise and confusion on her face. "Yes," she murmured. "What does my name mean to you? Should I know you somehow, Trey?" She bit her bottom lip lightly, putting her hands back on her stomach and compressing it lightly, trying to get the uncomfortable feeling to abate. Instead, it seemed to surge.

Keshin nods quietly, remembering now. The Director must have left to check out Elayne burying the kid's father. "Yeah, I got it. I left the lake to come back to the Bar after it seemed like things were settling down. By the way..."

Keshin points towards the door. "What were you doing out there, anyway? You were gone from the Bar a long time."

Mar snarls as soon as he hears the way Trey is speaking of Elayne. He stands up and circles her cautiously. He then says in a cold voice, "Do you have a problem with my dear Elayne's lovely name? If you do, then you may have to take it up with me. The Elayne here with me wouldn't hurt anyone unjustly."

The Director answered, "Oh, I was just looking around, seeing as the crowd in here is rather exclusive. I popped 'round seeing the different ships 'n all. Chatted up that beautiful centaur a bit, then Corliss came by and hijacked the conversation."

Corliss is still staring at the screens when he answers Terenia.  "I wish I had an answer for you, there," he says dryly.  "Even if they manage to bring your sister back and free her from control, where would you go?  Certainly Visser Three would notice both of you were missing.  I'm not sure how easily traceable you would be, without your ship, though.  A ship can be destroyed relatively easily."  He looks over at her.  "You're sure he hasn't placed any sort of remote tracer on you?  A nanotrace, even, into the bloodstream?  That sort of thing is possible."

At Mar's actions, Elayne blinked and shook her head. She looked up at him, swiveling her neck to follow his motions. "I don't think that's it, Mar. My name means something to him. Will you sit?" she asked, taking one hand from her stomach long enough to tug a chair out from the nearest table and pull it next to hers. Her eyebrows were raised in confusion at both Mar and Trey's actions, but the expression made her look vulnerable.

"Elayne Jogan," Trey repeats in a disbelieving tone. He lowers his hand and sets it on top of the table, half clenched. There is no anger or fear in his voice now, only a sort of mystical wonder. He ignores Mar's comment, too surprised by this turn of events to even feel overly intimidated by the strange man.

"Elayne the Traitor," he says, speaking the 'traitor' part as though it is a part of her name, "no wonder you seem so familiar..."

------

Terenia looks surprised at Corliss' question. <Of course he has,> she says, <why do you think Efaen cannot leave me? Why do you think I told them not to bother with this stupid mission to save my sister in an attempt to save my host? It's all for nothing. Even if I do give up Efaen, which I won't, she'd be dead within a week. She wouldn't be able to be on a single ship without attracting a horde of Yeerks, and she sure as hell won't be going back to the Homeworld.>

She scuffs a hoof on the metal floor of the Bug in frustration, <people never listen to anything I tell them. I may as well be talking to a wall most've the time.>

"It seems like they need to be taking it up with the one you work for, instead of you." Belzar said.

"If only I had some resources available to my people, I might be able to help more. As it is I'm just a somewhat broken robot who doesn't even know if his people are actually coming for him or not."

Corliss nods faintly.  "There are ways to remove remote tracers like that," he says carefully.  "One would be to destroy the tracking device that is being used to follow you round, and the other would be...well.  It would require your genetic code, and the sequence your cells are using to generate the nanotech itself."  His shoulders slump a bit.  Then he looks up.  "What if they do bring your sister back here alive?  Would she have access to that type of information?  This ship has the ability to create retroviruses and antivirals, it would have the basic sequencing abilities that you'd need, at least for your own genome.  Nanotech is much tricker.  It's a long shot, but if it worked it would free you and your um...your Andalite friend."  He shrugs, looking back at the screens.  "If, of course, that is something you both would want, given those circumstances."

<It hardly matters what we want,> Terenia says with the slightest of sneers, <our good friend Ossanlin has already made that decision for us.>

At the mention of her sister, Terenia's face goes stony once more. She folds her arms across her chest and squares her shoulders, as though bracing for an attack.

<If my sister arrives here in one piece,> she says, <I am not optimistic about the results.>

Elayne tried to repeat the words "Elayne the Traitor," but she only managed to mouth them twice before actually speaking. "Why... why would I be called...?" Her skin was several shades whiter than usual, and she was pressing even more forcefully on her stomach.

Keshin rolls his eyes. "Corliss can be a pain. Although..." Keshin's expression changes to something more interested. "...I've never known him to be that persistent. And if you mean an Andalite, then you're probably talking about Terenia. Ossanlin is out, and I haven't seen any new customers of that kind in the Bar."

Keshin shakes his head. "You shouldn't get involved with her, man. That woman has more problems than practically anyone in this Bar. And that includes us, who are bounty hunters. And Corliss, who's a rebel. Just...don't touch that with a ten foot pole. For your own safety."
*******************************************************************************
Mar shakes his head angrily. "My sweet Elayne is no traitor." Mar's shadow around his chair shifts peculiarly around his chair and Mar's hair moves seemingly independent of its owner. Mar then gasps and stabilizes himself by grasping the table, but quickly rights himself. Don't lose control. If you do, you may die.

"She would not betray her own organization," Mar states, trying to keep himself passive. "...you are not lying, regrettably. Some version of Elayne must have betrayed your cause in the universe you source from. But I refuse to believe your Elayne and the one you see are the same person."

The Director kicks his head back and laughs, "HA! My safety, that's a good one. 'Andalites', though; so that's what they're called. Beautiful name, amazing creatures. I haven't met many creatures that communicate telepathically. I've met a species that communicates with their eyebrows, but not many using only their minds." He takes a drink from his lager and thinks for a moment, "I appreciate the sentiment, I do; but this place affords certain... liberties, and I feel I must explore them."
