Elayne frowned at Trey as she lowered her hand back to her lap, trying to determine what it was he was avoiding telling her. When Mar spoke, however, she sighed. So he thought she should return to Earth, too. It was sounding more and more like what was expected of her--what would be the right thing to do. The problem was that Trey's advice, as strangely and uncomfortably as it had been offered, sounded a good deal more appealing.
"Maybe you're right," she sighed to Trey, "although I have no idea what you're grounding that on." She certainly had no desire to face her father's killers again, not after how they had defeated her, both in and out of court. "I'm easily one of the least popular humans in the country. If I went back there, I could be killed at any moment, and I doubt they'd even prosecute the assassin. That's a very selfish way of thinking, but I'm not sure I've ever acted any other way, really."
