"Hey I could help out," came the voice of the human teenager from before. He was standing right behind the director. When did he get there? "I'm sure I can get Iceren to help also." The teen jerked a thumb back to the hooded figure standing up at full height just outside of the bar, he seemed to be looking for something. When Iceren's head turned towards the teenager's way he ducked behind the director. "I'm sorry for eavesdropping but e never agreed with what the andalites did with the yeerks." The human grinned looking at Terenia. "We'll do it free of charge." A frown then crossed his features,"Well... I'd have to convince Iceren to do it for free..."

((Danien, Terenia and The Director are on a Bug Fighter outside of the bar, in the ship yard, so your characters probably wouldn't be able to see them.))

Trey smiles wryly at Elayne, "you know better humans than I do, then. Most've them can't wait to get their hands on a nothlit, or a grub. That's why they keep us separated. If I walked around pretending to be like other humans I'd be dead in five minutes. Earth is a wonderful place to live, so long as you're not one of us."

"And yeah," he adds to Corliss, "both my parents were around during the war. They were on the run together right after we lost, trying to avoid being forced into...you know...well, eventually they were caught."

-----

Terenia nods, dropping her hand.

<I understand,> she says, glancing back in the direction of the bar, <no, none of my captors are here currently, although the brother of one is. I don't know if he'd do much to stop me from leaving. Maybe. It's hard to say.>

Belzar had been inside the bar, within earshot of the conversation going on between Trey, Corliss, and Elayne. "It seems that Andalites, or at least the military, do not discern between indivicual Yeerks. They believe all Yeerks are evil. This is a grave error, as sentience is defined by individuality. Is there a power on equal or greater terms than the Andalites willing to speak on behalf of the Yeerks? A third party could go a long ways to stopping the war."

Corliss looks over at Belzar, eyebrows raised in surprise.  "You talk, then?" he says, then he laughs.  "If you ever come across such a powerful neutral race, point it out, because believe me...we've tried looking.  We've even asked the Andalites really nicely, you know, to stop murdering us instead of working with us.  So far only the Andalites hanging round this sodding old place will even give us the time of day, and even they haven't exactly granted us an audience with the Electorate, or a holiday home on one of the moons."  He sighs and drums his fingers on the scratched wood of the table.

"Yes, I was granted a translator chip that seems to be working fine. The mechanic gave it to me. My people are a powerful force for peace that may be willing to act as mediator. Though it has come to my attention that they may deem me expendable, and not come for me. I certainly can't make any agreements if I never find my home again."

"Right after you lost," Corliss says thoughtfully.  "After the Empire lost?  Or were your parents involved in the Peace Movement or the rebellion?  If such a thing even existed where you've come from...and what about your parents' former hosts?  Couldn't they have helped your parents in some way?"

Keshin rolls his eyes at Corliss. "My god, you're dark. Nice to know that I'm ever so wanted in this place. But I guess I did cause a lot of trouble for your people in the last few days. And for that bit I'm actually sorry. Unplanned. For the rest I'm really not." Keshin snickers a bit.

Keshin then recieves his grape juice and takes a sip. "But as for this whole boiling the whole Yeerk race business...they'd never get them all, kid. The planet's pretty big and Yeerks breed like rabbits. If there aren't at least a few of us scum still around, then the Andalites must be way more thorough than I thought. Although..." Keshin blinks. "...it's surprising that they're working so effortlessly with humans. The two species couldn't be more different."
*******************************************************************************
Mar shakes his head at Belzar with an amused look on his face. "Those two species have hated one another for almost sixty years on Earth. A single intermediary could not stop the discrimination and bloodshed, even if they were very powerful. Emotions run high even after a war."

Mar then says calmly, "Normally I would offer myself and my organization. But I benefit from the chaos indirectly. As do many other darker Highest. Even if your race plays peacemaker, I suggest you stay out of this."

Corliss shoots a glare at Keshin.  "What do you expect, Keshin?  You tried to kill me, and ****ed with the fabric of space-time," he says dryly.  Under his breath he mutters, "Dapsen turelek..."

"My parents were a part of the Empire," Trey says wryly, "this peace movement you're talking about...well, if it's the same one I've heard of, they're even worse off than the former Imperials. Same with the voluntary hosts. They're traitors, either to the Yeerks or the humans or both."

Trey shrugs, "I've never met anyone who supported the Yeerk Peace Movement personally. Right after the war there were groups of humans who hunted most of 'em down, their former hosts too. Lots of riots, lots of bloodshed. The Andalites watched from their ships and swooped in to clean up the mess afterwords."

Trey pauses suddenly, realizing that he's been talking an awful lot, "Sorry. I just....normally my dad would be here getting all fired up about Yeerk oppression and whatnot. Guess I feel like I should be filling his shoes. It's stupid. I never was very good at history, I'm just repeating what my dad's told me."

Corliss stares at Trey, his expression cold.  "Why would humans persecute Yeerks who were to help them?  Risking their lives to save Earth and the occupied planets.  Risking everything we have.  Surely some humans, the former rebel hosts at least, would have helped build a case in their favor."  He tilts his head a bit.  "As for your parents, there are many decent Yeerks within the Empire.  They must have cared a great deal about each other and humanity to have human children...unless it was some sort of pity plea?"

Elayne looked to Corliss and shrugged. "It may have been a good deal simpler than that. From what I understand, with a new morph comes all of that morph's instincts. It's natural his parents would have felt attraction to each other, considering their shared experiences."

She glanced towards the bar, toying with the idea of ordering another rink but decided against it for now. She had had more in the past few days than she had since the months right after her father's death--the months that had sent her into space in the first place.

Trey looks down at the table, Corliss' steady gaze making him uncomfortable.

"It isn't that simple," he says, "it's like...not all the Nazi's in World War Two were bad, right? Some of them may have even sympathized with and helped the Jews they were supposed to eliminate. But at the end of the day, when the war was over, a Nazi is still a Nazi and the rest of the world wanted them dead."

He looks up, speaking directly to Elayne now, although he is still addressing Corliss' question, "the humans that helped the Yeerks form an alliance, that helped the peace movement, were branded traitors. They were captured, tortured and murdered as traitors to the human race. It doesn't matter what some factions of people think. What matters is what the people in power think, and they think that the Yeerks are evil and need to be contained and controlled. Anyone who thinks otherwise is expendable, no matter what species you are."

"This is the same kind of oppression that the Humans hated so much. Why can these people not see they have become what they feared? The miracle of sentience is the gift of individuality, but fellow sentient creatures continue to place individuals in groups and cry guilty by association. My friends and I have been trying to end war because we have seen a race thrive on peace, but even our kind is divided by different ideals."

Elayne watched Belzar with a slow nod, and then turned her gaze on Trey. It did not take long, however, for her eyes to slowly fall to the floor. "That's true, Trey," she said, watching her lap. "My father's killers weren't even arrested for killing two sentient creatures--Yeerk and host. In any other situation, there would have been an outcry. People would find it abhorrent. But as it was, people were celebrating. They thought it would make me lose my drive. And I guess they were right." She was not speaking to him directly anymore; the only person who knew her background was Mar, and he had already heard all of this. She supposed she would just have to keep talking about it until she could make peace with what had happened.

Corliss glances at Elayne, but Trey continues explaining himself.  By the time Trey is finished, Corliss has to force his words out of Mike's gritted teeth.

"I refuse to believe that," he hisses, looking away.  He swallows, forcing the muscles in his neck to relax.  "The humans I know, they may not be the ones in power, and believe me, I know what power does to people--human or otherwise.  But they wouldn't allow..."  He shakes his head, looking back up at Trey.  "If I survive this war, and that's a bloody great 'if', I really don't want or expect a parade or a medal or even a 'thank you'.  I just don't want my people, my human and Yeerk friends, murdered and outcast for trying to help this ****ing planet."

<Let me talk, mate,> Mike says softly.  Corliss relinquishes control, and Mike rubs the back of his neck, gazing at Trey.  His northern English lilt becomes less tense with anger, and much more pronounced.  "Oy, little bloke, this is Mike.  I understand you can't reckon for sure, you'll 'ave to trust me, yeah?  It's like Corliss said.  There must 'ave been resistance, somewhere out in space.  Do you reckon the bloody U.N., or the Andalite Electorate, went after the organized bases of militant Imperial resistance flung across the galaxy?  Or the pockets of Empire supporters that must've escaped, in true Yeerk form?  And I don't ken what people are like in your timeline, but in mine, there are these earthy-crunchy types who would've lobbied to no end that the destruction of the Yeerk race, especially the Yeerks who helped humanity, was nothing short of a civil rights disaster.  And the humans who worked with them, sure, they worked with Yeerks, but there are men and women who have sacrificed their lives to save Earth from Yeerk dominion.  That's not a bloody crime worthy of execution, it's our reality and if it's for nothing, then what are we fighting for?  What about the Nazis who tried to kill Hitler, then?  If they'd survived the war, yes, they'd still 'ave been Nazis...high ranking ones, at that...but I doubt they'd be murdered for trying to topple an evil regime."  He sighs.  "Maybe your dad, rest 'im, just didn't know the whole story?"
