"I..." Genie blinked, surprised, and a little flustered.

Priton didn't say anything.

<P?> Nothing. He knew what her answer was anyway.

Genie sighed. "I appreciate the offer. Really. But I've made my choice for the time being." She peered at him. "What exactly could you need my help with, anyway?"

<That might not be a good idea,> Priton said.

<Now you say something,> Genie muttered.

<I'm just saying. You don't know him from Adam.>

"I... we might still be able to help." She paused. "Depending on what it is, of course."

His spots darkened to purple and nodded his head. “I respect your choice Genie. You have your reasons which I do not need nor want to know.”

“As for the help I require it is a dishonor to admit weakness, but I require knowledge. Knowledge of other alien races I have come across in my travels that I did not recognize. If I describe them will you tell me all you know about them?”

Time to see if his luck would finally pay off.

"Knowledge," Genie repeated. "I see." She reached for her coke, sloshing it around in her glass. "I don't suppose you'd mind telling me why you need this knowledge?" She sipped her drink. Unlike Priton, she was more than a little curious about Lucan's changing spots, but she didn't say anything, for now.

Issid stared at Mar for a long moment, and then she laughed. "Sounds like a hormonal human teenager to me. Nothing I can't manage, I'm sure. So how do you meet these... contacts of yours?" she asked, gesturing to his gauntlet. "What is their relation to you?"

Settling into her seat, she turned an inward ear to Elayne, who was again embarrassed but pleased at Mar's words. <You do know there is something powerfully not right about Mar, right?> she murmured to her host.

<That's what most people would think... and it's probably true. But I still empathize with him,> Elayne responded. <Besides, even you have to admit that he's interesting. Who wouldn't want to spend time with him?>

<I'm beginning to think there's something powerfully not right about you, too,> Issid responded dryly.

The Bartender brought Lucan his drink at that moment. He took out his notebook and wrote "Cash or Tab?" in Lucans language then showed it to him. Lucan looked at it then replied "I will pay you before I leave today" The bartender stared at him for a moment then began to dry a glass with a dishtowel.

Lucan picked up his drink and like before inhaled its scent. While he thought of how to answer Genies question he took a drink of his Reln Blizzard. As he drank his spots turned as blue as the liquid, then changed to red as the foam.

He set his drink down then looked at Genie and decided that although it was dishonorable to ask for help, lack of knowledge was weakness.

{A moment of weakness, will lead to an eternity of death!} Again his teachers’ voice echoed in his head.

“I do not need to know why you consent to Priton using your body Genie. You do not need to know why I require the knowledge.” His spots turned bright green as he finished speaking.

Keshin shrugs a bit, staring off at the starry expanse above the Bar. "I'm not so sure myself. That irritating pompous one, Ossanlin...he seems genuine. The problem is that he also seems like a genuine know-it-all. Hard to know what to make of this crowd in the Bar. They're a little different than most of the four-eyed morons I've seen." Keshin shrugs a bit, and then glances in the direction of the buzzing fly.

Joanne then switches with him, grinning. "Joanne here. That you there, the fly? Hope it isn', 'cause I was thinkin' about smackin' ya. An' I still don' see why you'd go anywhere near that guy Visser Three, even for your sister. She must really be the only thing ya got. We've taken jobs from that guy before, but...you must have serious balls if you can deal with practically livin' with 'em. Kess doesn' give ya enough credit. Back when I was home, you kept the hell away from guys like that even if they did have somebody ya liked."

Mar smirks at Issid, once again playing with his fingers. "You assume that they all bear the same relation to me. They're all just that: contacts. The most powerful contacts that I know are either my direct relations or allies. The weakest are mere servants, idiot soldiers convinced they are something more to me than tools. I meet them again through various fashions, though I use the gauntlet for ease of access to my network. Your new best friend just happens to be a disposable moron. That's why he didn't expect to hear from me."

<Touchy,> Priton commented.

<This coming from the guy who won't trust anyone whose mind he can't read,> Genie shot back.

<A pretty sound policy, I thought.>

Genie rolled her eyes before realizing it might look strange. She cleared her throat. "I'll see what I can I do. Ask your questions."

“I know that you are a female although I do not recognize your kind.” Lucan knew this was dangerous, but if he could gain Genies trust it would pay off.

"I am a human." For lack of a better word. She frowned. "How can you tell I'm a female if you aren't familiar with my species?"

"Because although there is some physical differences you are very similar to my species Genie." Lucan paused to take another drink, his spots again changing to the colors of his drink.

Genie shrugged. "Fair enough." She took a long drink of her coke, setting the empty glass on the bar. She motioned to the bartended for another. While he refilled her glass, she turned back to Lucan. "What else do you want to know?"

"How much can you tell me about your species?" Lucans spots turned dark purple, but he had to ask the question. "How much can you tell me about Pritons' species?" As he spoke the last question he moved his left foot slowly and silently enough to not attract Genies' attention. He pointed it right at Genie hoping she wouldn't do something threatning.

Genie started to answer, but Priton chose that moment to cut in. "That depends on what you want to know."

<Priton!>

He sighed, rubbing his forehead. "The yeerks are parasites, like I said. They've infest and take over the bodies of other species. Humans are one they're in the process of infesting." He paused.

<You know a lot more than that,> Genie grumbled. She was pissed at him for taking over again without warning.

<You promised to tell him everything. I didn't.> He remained tense, poised to flee if he needed to. Having prolonged conversations with aliens in bars wasn't exactly what he'd call a safe idea.

Issid raised her eyebrows with a smirk and shook her head. "Well, whatever wo--" she began, then abruptly stopped speaking, her neck muscles slacking, letting her head fall forward in a bow, looking as if she were praying.

Elayne sat without moving, her gaze focused on her knees. After a long moment, she looked at Mar, her eyes wide. "What just...?" she began, then stopped herself again as the memories of the alternate Elayne trickled into her mind with dream-like lack of clarity. "Surely they haven't been successful yet," she said quietly, meaning Ossanlin, Myitt, Claxter, and Aliciana. "Why was the shift triggered now?" Her blue eyes were only continuing to widen behind her hair as she obtained more and more new memories, attempting to process them as she listened to Mar.

Mar suddenly staggers and gasps, the timeline and the air around him shifting. He clutches at his chest but slowly breathes more steadily, standing up. His posture looks much more nervous and confused than it usually is. He glances around him and then at Elayne's demeanor and expression. ...has it happened already? This has certainly caught me off guard. ...excellent, they must be destined to win. I don't have to cater to that infuriating Yeerk any longer.

Mar then hurries over towards Elayne and steadies her, putting his right hand around her back. "Rest. Everything has ended. They must have either made it, or they will make it. You are safe, sweetie. I am sorry for all the complications that arose."
